DNF @84%. I kept thinking I needed to finish this audio so I could move on to my next. For what? I’m not enjoying this book at all.

Cursed Luck is essentially a love letter to everyone who thinks men should apologize for their existence.

I really liked the narrator for this one; it was the story I didn't couldn't get on board with.

The beginning of a new story by a stand out author, Cursed Luck met my expectations and ran circles around what Ive been reading and listening to lately. The narrator has built a clear picture of Kennedy Bennett. I'm looking forward to the next story in what I hope is a long running series.

I wasn’t sure how I would like this when I first started reading, but it eventually grew on me. With the plot twists leading up to the ending, I was sold. This was a fun, quick read and excellent as an audiobook! I absolutely adored the banter and I think that is definitely one of Armstrong’s strongest points. I like the main romance but it was incredibly slow-burn, with the mystery taking up way more of the plot. I do love a slow burn, this one seemes endlessly slow - they haven't even kissed! I’m looking forward to book two, Armstrong is one of my all-time favourite authors so I definitely won't be missing it. The narrator was amazing as well and 100% contributed to my enjoyment of the book.

I thought this first book in the Cursed Luck series was pretty good if not predictable. I like the premise and the dialog between the characters, but for some reason I wasn't grabbed by the story. I'll still give this series another shot though because sometimes the characters get better with age.

I received an e-ARC of this book by the author and publishing via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book. You can find a link to my Goodreads Review here:

I've (almost) read Armstrong's backlist, but I was still pleasantly surprised by this book. It's more of an urban fantasy than paranormal, but it has the quirk and upbeatness that I've come to expect with more recently published books.
Yes, the story is about Kennedy and Aiden questing to find a cursed object, and how it pulls in their family, and other people. But I found a lot more depth to all things involved. The characters weren't one dimensional, and I did enjoy the mystery aspect. (And since, I'm supposed to be reviewing the audiobook, the narrator was also A+)

I need the next one right now, I loved Kennedy and Aiden so much. The story has an awesome mix of mythology and paranormal. It pulled me in from the start. Kennedy’s sisters were also such awesome characters. I cannot wait to find out what happens next. Thank you to Netgalley and Tantor Audio for an audio arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book by Kelley Armstrong and I liked it a lot, it was a funny magical story.
Curse weaving and luck work are part of the magic system which was great and I loved the side characters.
There was a romantic element but it wasn't over the top and they had good chemistry.

Greek mythology was used in a very good way as back ground for the magic and characters. I'm looking forward to finding out how it continues in the next books.

The narrator did a great job, I liked how she did the different voices.

Cursed Luck is Armstrong's beginning of a new series. Main character Kennedy is a curse weaver. Kennedy has recently struck out on her own, opening an antiques shop in Boston, where her speciality is uncursing and reselling hexed objects. She has taken a break from her sisters after much family tragedy.

Enter dashing Aiden Connolly who walks into her life with an offer she really should refuse. The son of a wealthy family of luck workers, Aiden has a scheme to get his hands on the most famous cursed object of all: the mythical Necklace of Harmonia. However, when Kennedy's sisters are kidnapped, she discovers a whole new world of deadly foes.

Not my favorite work of Armstrong's but has definite potential. Nice character chemistry and tension. Loved the Greek Gods tie in!

Kennedy Bennett is a curse weaver who runs an antiques shop. She mainly uncurses objects and then resells them for a living. Aiden Connolly is a luck worker who requests Kennedy’s help in obtaining the cursed Necklace of Harmonia. When Kennedy finds out her sisters were kidnapped by someone who’s also looking for the necklace, she has no choice but to work with Aiden to find her sisters and the necklace.

Cursed Luck is a paranormal/urban fantasy story, with a romantic element. The plot about the cursed Necklace of Harmonia was SO interesting. I loved the cozy element aspect of the mystery. I also really enjoyed the magical world building and how it was tied to Greek mythology.

I really liked both Kennedy and Aiden. They’re complete opposites: Kennedy is considered to be wild, but Aiden is stuffy and formal. They make a great team together. And they have such good chemistry. I only wish this book was more romance-focused. But here’s the thing: the timeline of this book is very tight. The story basically takes place in the span of 1 week or so. Kennedy and Aiden are busy looking for Kennedy’s sisters and the necklace. So there’s not much time or room for a well developed romance. Cursed Luck is simply the beginning of Kennedy and Aiden’s romance.

In Kennedy’s own self-aware words:

“I understand the constraints of a two-hour script, but I’m not really a fan of insta-love. I prefer the endings where the two former strangers make plans to stay in touch, maybe take on a joint project. I can peer into the future and give them an eventual happily-ever-after.”

And based on Cursed Luck’s ending, we can definitely expect a HEA in the future for Aiden and Kennedy.

Overall, the cozy mystery, the magical world building, the Greek mythology, and the great chemistry between Kennedy and Aiden made this book super enjoyable to listen to on audio. I’m excited to see where this series goes! I need Aiden and Kennedy together ASAP!!

Kennedy is trying her best to prove that she can make it on her own in the big city with her antique storeaway from her family legacy- a store which is really an opportunity to uncurse cursed items and then sell them to unsuspecting humans once safe. When a stranger tries to bully her into a job for him, she is instantly on alert- especially when her beloved sisters could be in trouble. It looks like Kennedy is on a mission she never wanted with a stranger she doesn't know if she can trust.

The narrator did a good job with pacing as well as character voices so I have zero complaints with the audio format of this book. I recommend a listen for anyone who likes audiobooks.

The ending wrapped up nicely enough, with the main issue of the story being resolved but it does feel like this is the first in a series. A lot of this book was spent world building (it was at times very long winded and detailed to get all the details in- occasionally overwhelming as well) and introducing the characters so I am pretty sure there will be a lot more to come from the Bennett sisters. I would really like to read more stories set in this world, be it Kennedy or even one of her sisters would be fun. This was a great story for anyone who likes the feel of a cozy mystery/ borderline paranormal romance as well as a new take on Greek mythology.

I loved, loved, loved this book! It was a fun adventure through the eyes of characters descended from Greek Gods. Sounds unbelievable, but the author does an excellent job of making the Gods "real" for this day and age. Any questions I had while reading were answered too. I hope there are more books about this, these families. Loved it!

***AUDIO BOOK VERSION ***
Cursed Luck is the first book in a new paranormal mystery series by one of my favourite authors - Kelley Armstrong.
This book had me pulled in from the start and the narrator did an amazing job with the reading of it!
In this book we meet Kennedy Bennet who is a curse weaver from a family with long line of curse weavers. She and her sisters are close and when Kennedys sisters go missing, she goes into a tailspin.
Aiden Connelly is from a long line of luck weavers and becomes entangled in the search for Kennedys sisters.
Along the way they are embroiled into a search for the curse necklace of Harmonia which is the mystery part of the story.
I loved the touch of romance between these two characters in this book and hope more comes of it in the next book!
The mystery intermingled with magic and paranormal elements was amazing and I can't wait for book 2!

In the first book in a new series, Kelley Armstrong introduces readers to the art of Curse Weaving, that can be a bit of fun or very sinister:

Kennedy Bennett comes from a long line and well known curse weavers, who practice their craft out in the open, although the general public thinks that it fake, what they do is very real and can have long lasting consequences to those who possess the cursed object. When a famous cursed necklace is about to go up for auction, suddenly everyone is scrambling to get their own curse breaker and there are those who want to get their hands on a curse at any cost. When Kennedy' sisters and fellow curse breakers are kidnapped there is much more on the line for Kennedy than breaking a centuries old curse.

I’m a really big fan of Armstrong, so when she starts a new adult series, I’m going to pick it up. This book originally started out in a serial format that she wrote last year during the pandemic at the time. I did not read it in the serial form so I was really happy when she put it together into a book.

I like that his book does not try to take itself too seriously and is a fun easy read. I absolutely love the idea of a curse weavers / breakers and honestly I have not read a book that deals with curses this in-depth. I really liked the idea of objects being cursed, and that not all curses are bad, some are the joker’s curse which is more like a joke than anything else. I mean there is always someone who talks about a cursed family heirloom and such and this book just takes it all to the next level.

Kennedy was a fun character who has the best job I can think of buying cursed antiques, breaking the curse on them and then reselling the furniture. Kennedy takes her profession seriously and her attention to detail when she is unweaving a curse is amazing, she “sees” what other cannot. Aiden, the main male lead, was just okay as a character he just seemed a bit boring and i get that he is basically the complete opposite of Kennedy, but I just wanted him to have a bit more of a spark to him. Though I did find his balance to his luck use funny, and I wanted to read more of that. I also did not really feel for the relationship that took part in the book, I get opposites attract, but for some reason I could not get behind it. Hopefully in future books it will grow on me.

I enjoyed the fun mystery within this book and the curse/myth surrounding the necklace as well as who has kidnapped Kennedy’s sisters. Plus there were some fun twists, both plot and character wise that I did not see coming, some from total left field but in this book they just worked.

This is a great fun urban fantasy that is an easy read that you will not want to put down. Another great book Armstrong, can’t wait for more.

Enjoy!!!!

I love Kelley Armstrong so I was beyond excited to hear about this all new world and series. I instantly knew I had to read it and requested the audio book on netgalley. I was beyond excited to be approved and I was not disappointed. I loved the narrator and thought she really brought the characters to life, but especially the main character Kennedy.

I have a couple continuity questions about how magic works in this world (if there is always balance and you have to weave/Unweave curses in balance how are there cursed objects to start?) but they were minor and I image as the series continues they will flesh out a bit more like the other amazing worlds she has crafted over the years.

If you like mythology than this is the book for you. A completely unique take on Greek/Roman mythology that I truly loved! Kennedy and her sisters are curse weavers. They curse or uncurse objects and their family has been doing this for generations. Aiden Connolly is a luck weaver (not a Leprechaun!) and their paths collide sending them on an adventure of the ages as they try to obtain and uncurse the most famous cursed object ever.

This was a paranormal fantasy bogged down with over-explanation and too-formal dialogue. I managed to get through it, but was ready to DNF when the reveal about the market's identities came in to play. I did like the way the author defined curse weaving and breaking; this type of magic was different and refreshing compared to a lot of other fantasy.
