I loved this manga. I thought that Takasago was persistent in pursuing Suehiro but in a cute way that wasn’t too stalkerish. They have a very interesting meet-cute. As a bookworm it was such a relatable moment when Suehiro fell in love with a boy because he wants to read the same book as her. I also thought it was so cute how supportive Takasago was towards Suehiro and how he tried to get her out of her shell and go live her dreams. The whole club situation is just so precious and OMG there’s head pats 😍 We all know how much of a sucker I am for head pats. I was basically squealing the entire time I read this and I would love to read volume 2 ASAP.

I already like this author. (The Prince's Romance Gambit is great!) And this volume sounded just perfect for me.
Truth in advertising, it was! Bookworm heroines are the best.

Highly recommended

Romance Shojo always make me think that they will be boring and predictable but sometimes they suprise me - this one pleasantly did!

The Springtime of My Life Began with You volume 1 by Nikki Asada, has such a generic title, reminicent of many cookie cutter romance shojo but in actual fact, it is very apt for this story. And what a great story so far!

I cackled out loud very quickly while reading this, and that was due to the premise of the story, or more like the premise of the 'meet cute'. The setting is generic Japanese High school. The charcters seem generic popular good looking main male character with generic quiet mousy main female character, but the meet cute is anything but generic! Takasago-kun (the afforementioned generic popular good-looking boy) has to play a Batsu-game (something that a loser of a bet might be forced to do as punishment). For his batsu game, he must ask out a classmate: Suehiro-san (the afforementioned quiet mousy type) who has heard the popular groups plans and calls Takasago-kun out on it! The reaction from the rest of the classmates is what surprised and delighted me! They were all fully on Suehiro-san's side, declaring that 'this is just plain bullying! And from the popular kids, too!' At which point, Takasago-kun's only option that will save his reputation and some face, is to deny that it is a batsu game and declare that he really does want to go out with Suehiro-san. He must now woo her and win her over - such a great premise!

There is of course much more to this story than just a great start. As the main characters learn more about each other, so do we, and in doing so, these characters morph from generic shojo stereotypes to become Takasago-kun and Suehiro-san, with fully formes personalities, and backstories, transforming into characters we care about.

I must point out that the class rep is my fav! I love him already and want more - there is a mystery there! I just know it - and can't wait to find out what!

I truly loved it! The artwork was beautiful and the plot was so cute! Really excited to continue the series!

This is a manga about a guy that falls in love with the mysterious girl that loves reading. All she always wanted is to have friends, break the rules, live the life of a real teenager. On the other side, we have the popular guy, who only has good grades and just wants to see the different expressions of our main girl.

I mean, this plot is the one we always see in shoujo manga, and I like this. The romance is cute, their relationship is lovely and I like their personalities. Is a nice read to have when you’re not into reading anything. I liked the art, it was beautiful and everything was so special. I felt like when I was 13 watching my favorite anime after a terrible day.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book, you can bet that I’ll keep reading the next volumes!

I've been given an arc through NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

This was your classic shojo manga with the shy, quiet girl falling for the most popular guy in school. The art was really pretty, I'll give it that. Especially the scene towards the end with the night sky and all those stars, gorgeous.

Something that I don't like and that is very common in many shojo manga is the insta love. Although, I'll admit, some scenes were cute despite the rate at which the story was developing.

I also enjoyed the storyline about the falling of the stars' author!

Thank you Kodansha for trusting my opinion!

'The Springtime of My Life Began with You' is a youthful and poignant manga that I definitely recommend! It's both funny and charming. The art is lovely too. However, I just felt like the story was average. It's everything you want in a shojou manga, but it's also everything you expect to happen. Overall, if you're looking for something of a "safe" manga to read, then I highly recommend this one!

It's my first manga by Nikki Asada. I really enjoyed it. Can't wait for more.

The only thing I wished for is more "suspense" moments, but since it's simply romantic manga, no high expectations.

I’d like to thank Netgalley and Kodansha for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read a lot of shoujo manga, and among them, the art style in this book is one of the cutest! The lines are so clean and the anatomic proportions aren’t exaggerated unlike some other manga I’ve read. If the author releases an artbook, I’d love to buy it too!

As for the story, it’s a sweet high school romance. I liked the male protagonist, Takasago. He is direct to the point and doesn’t play with the girl’s feelings. The girl, Suehiro, is a different matter, and I found her frustrating to read about though I can relate with her. She’s so shy that she chooses to stay in a corner of the room reading books instead. Several weeks into their schoolyear, she still can’t speak a word with any of her classmates. Her shyness leads to bullying by classmates, which in turn led to her being even more of a recluse. In shoujo fashion, Takasago swoops in to be her friend. I enjoyed reading her interactions with Takasago, especially when he got it into his head that he wanted to go out with her no matter what.

I’m looking forward to reading the next volume. I’m also interested in reading other manga by this author.

I really liked this volume. It's a beautifully illustrated slice-of-life story about an unexpected relationship between a shy girl and a popular boy who helps her out of her shell. Any fans of shojo and slice of life manga will enjoy this - the characters are very charming and relatable and the story has a gentle pace that's very sweet and introspective. Fans of the genre won't find the plot particularly surprising or unique as yet, but the story is still fun to read and has a lot of promise with the introduction of more character development and conflict as the series progresses. I'd definitely recommend it to any romance fans, and the art is super pretty!

This manga followed the main character Suehiro, a shy girl who is asked out by a very popular boy at school named Takasago- however he only ask her out because of a sort of punishment game. Suehiro knows that this is why he asks her out and tells him that he doesn't need to continue, but he then insists that she actually go out with him.

I had some mixed feelings about this manga. At first, I wasn't a big fan of the romance or of Takasago because he was rather forceful and pushy about Suehiro going out with him. As the manga progressed, both the romance and Takasago as a character grew on me especially as Takasago's character was explored more in depth. Takasago also did some really sweet things for Suehiro and seems to genuinely care about her. While the romance did grow on me and there were cute moments that made me smile, I also think the romance itself developed a little too fast for my taste. I would've loved a slightly slower and more developed romance. I liked the second half of the manga more because of the romantic moments and character development, but I still feel that Takasago is overly possessive and pushy (especially at the beginning of the manga). I will be continuing with the series when more volumes come out, especially because I preferred the second half of this volume. I'm interested to see how the romance and characters continue to develop, as well at what happens with another plot line.

The subplot that had to do with the book Suchiro kept re-reading was interesting, and I'm intrigued to see what else happens with that. I loved Suehiro’s love for reading and how she talked about that- it was very relatable!

If I wasn’t reading a free ebook copy in exchange for a review, I wouldn’t have made it past the first few pages. That being said, now that I’ve finished the book, I might consider reading the rest of the series, if only because I’m rooting for the other guy and I want to be around when someone knocks Takasago down a few notches. He’s just so controlling! As the story goes on Suehiro takes a bit more control of things, but it always feels like Takasago is the one who actually gets to make all the decisions. It doesn’t feel like a healthy relationship. The art is beautiful and I like the plot, but I don’t appreciate this girl falling in love with such a pushy, annoying person.

A cute and interesting first volume for a manga. The plot does use the troupe of popular guy/ unpopular girl but still makes it very charming. The struggles of the FL are relatable and well explained. I am really interested in what role the class president is going to have in the future and hope to see more of him. In comparison to that I'm already getting negative vibes from that female friend of the ML. She feels like a future love rival or something. Let's just pray that there are going to be no frustrating things going on in the future.

3.5/5

The plot focuses on an introvert girl and a popular boy coming together and helping out eachother to overcome the barriers that they are facing within themselves.
It all starts with a game, where Takasago has to ask Suehiro to go out with him. Initially Suehiro gets puzzled and ask him whether it's due tothe game but gradually both the characters interact more.
Suehiro has restricted her world to her one and only favourite book named " The Forest of Falling Stars" by Michiru Kotobuki. She used to read it over and over again, this was noticed by Takasago and Suehiro was pretty surprised to know that. He stays by her side and knows her wishes which she has kept inside her heart only due to her introvert nature.
She wanted to join the Literary Club still she dropped her plan. Later the literary club was revoked as there weren't any applicants for the same club. She told this incident to Takasago and surprisingly he talked with the authorities and opened it again. He even named it "Suehiro Club" as he wanted to know more about her and even see her different expressions.
There were several cute incidents like breaking the school rule of staying late to watch the shooting star from the school's roof and coming to and from the school together. Inbetween these incidents, Suehiro comes to know that Takasago was into basketball team during his middle school and he was one of the most hardworking and dedicated guy in the team yet when his coach comes to ask him to join the team, he rejects. She searched for his achievements in middle school and was wondering why such a great athlete will skip his sport, well he had hurt himself and couldn't play the sport anymore that is why he turned down his coach's offer to join the team.
Both the characters hide something within themselves and both are helping eachother to overcome their insecurities.
I loved reading this and elbow will be waiting for the next volume.

ARC Copy...The romance so far between the two protagonist feels promising so far and the female protagonist is relatable for high school being shy and awkward around people in school.

Disclaimer: I got this book in exchange for an honest review.

Suehiro is a quiet girl and due to a dare Takasago asks her out. BUT WAIT!! There’s a twist (not a spoiler FYI) because she’s aware it’s a dare so she makes him work for it!! This is perfect for fans of slice of life mangas. I adored this one and I hope there’s more volumes in the series!! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this manga!!

This story is so stinking cute, it sent my heart fluttering!

Suehiro is quiet, living her life hidden in a book and out of sight of the world. She's content, while she longs for more, she tells herself she isn't brave enough, so living through her favorite book over and over to satisfy her imagination of possibilities and relatability.

One day while the teacher is away the students will play. The kids who decide Takasago, ultra popular guy, should ask Suehiro out as a joke.
Something he's more than happy to par-take in and doesn't stop. Saying he's serious about her and took the chance presented to act on it.

For the rest of chapters we lightly explore both character insecurities and personalities.
Suehiro that are much more on the surface and Takasago who's hiding below is a loud, animated personality.

They also started a club! Somewhere in all of that enters another character that MIGHT be showing some interest for some mysterious reason...

Definitely have a need for more of this.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read and receive an ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Volume one of "The Springtime of My Life Began with You" is a good start to a slice of life romance. The illustrations are wonderful to look at and I was intrigued by the character Suehiro as she is a relatable character for me: a quiet bookworm who is happy being by herself. As I read, I thought the relationship is a little too fast and the way Takasago persists in asking her out made me feel a little uncomfortable. A bit cliche and following classic tropes in a shoujo manga, but I hope to see more progression to the plot and character development in future volumes.

Quick Summary
It starts out with Takasago, popular, asking Suehiro out because of a Batsu-game. Suehiro knows it's for the game, even though Takasago tries to deny it. Takasago tells her he is gonna go out with her no matter what and thereafter she tries to avoid him. However, they do end up dating and Takasago ends up bringing back the lit club for her since she is always reading. When they post the club membership requirements the class president joins.

At first, I will be honest I wasn’t too sure how I was gonna like it after Takasago basically gave her no options and it was for the game. However, he is sweet to her and seems he will slowly open up to her too. Volume 2 was released today so hopefully I will get a chance to read it soon. I am curious to see if Suehiro discovers the author of the book she really likes is the class president (at least it seems to hint he is).

This is a promising start to a new to me series.

It has beautiful illustrations, and the characters are absolutely adorable. Right now it seems to be a fun, fluffy, slice of life romance. The ending has me super curious for the next volume. Am I sensing a love triangle??!? yes, please! I also can't wait to watch Suehiro become more confident in herself. (And it's a book about a book lover! bonus points!)

The one thing that wasn't my favorite about this book was the whole almost instalove thing. They barely know each other, but Suehiro already thinks that she's in love. mmmm. Okay?
