A tension-filled and twisty Scandinavian thriller!

Leah is a famous novelist who escaped an abusive relationship and has regular weekly appointments with Kristina, her therapist. Leah shows up for an appointment with bruises on her face and asks Kristina to meet her later at her remote cabin. Kristina knows she shouldn’t meet with patients outside of her office, but she is concerned for Leah and her curiosity wins. What she finds at the cabin changes everything.

I have read and loved all of this authors work! Her writing is gripping, addictive, smooth and unputdownable and this novel was no different. I was consumed by the storyline and intrigued by the characters, hanging on every word.

The main character, Kristina, is irrational and several aspects of the storyline are implausible, yet I couldn’t pull myself away from the book. The completely addictive writing and smooth flow of the storyline had me gripped and engrossed. There was a constant sense of unease, paranoia and dread that kept the story moving forward.

Although this book was my least favourite of this authors novels, it was a solid, gripping and highly entertaining book that kept me on the end of my seat and I recommend to thriller fans! Thank you to Head Of Zeus for my review copy!

I was really intrigued by the premise and the setting of the snowy cabin in the middle of nowhere. Kristina is an appealing character and I connected with her voice easily. There's also a narration from her patient, who is struggling and in need of Kristina's help. However, the characters take too long to actually get to the cabin, and I thought the pacing moves too slow. By halfway through I could predict where the story would go. It follows the same trope usually found in books involving female therapists and their husbands. That said, I thought the reveal about Kristina is effectively done and the ending packs a punch. I like it when a book isn't afraid to leave a mess for its characters.

Oh, my God, what a story! Kristina is a good therapist but in a bit, all her beautiful life will be upside down. She loves her husband but she has a dark past. A past that will hunt her after so many years.
Thank you Netgalley for this great thriller.

Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book (now released)

This psychological thriller shows how easy and how scary it can be when someone develops a very intense interest in you, particularly when it's in a therapy based setting!
Capturing the danger of infatuation in a trusted atmosphere, Cabin Fever explores the depths a person can go to imitate the life of another and jeopardise the lives of so many

I will admit as an avid thriller reader, I did find some elements of the plot predictable, but that's to be expected! I loved the Norwegian/Scandinavian elements to the story which sets her work apart from popular thriller authors. As a first time reader of Alex Dahl's work, I will definitely be coming back for more of her books!

This book was ok. I hadn’t guessed the ending and I was intrigued to read more. There was lots of description and flicking forward and backwards between the present and the past.

Thank you to Midas for my copy of this one and spot on the tour.

This is a dark and twisty novel which is intriguing. I have loved this one from the beginning and can safely say this might be my new favourite by this author.

This has been intriguing and clever. The author has produced a well written end unique book with many layers.

This is a dark read with tension and suspense laced through the pages. The location is gorgeous but claustrophobic.

This is definitely a book that has been with the wait. A definite five star read.

Unfortunately I just couldn't get into the book and ended up DNF. I will try again to read this book at a later time and if so will update my review.

Having said that, I heard amazing things about this book and I have loved previous books by this author, so please do go ahead and read this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Initially, it felt very similar to many others I've read recently, but it soon came into it's own. The story is set in Norway and follows Kristina, a therapist married to a popular politician. The story is told from Kristina's point of view, but shares stories of other characters too. Around half way through, the story is told through an additional medium, which makes for an interesting read. There were a few twists and turns, a few of which I had guessed, and others that really caught me by surprise.

This book kept me reading at night longer than I should've, and that's always the sign of a good book. I read it quickly and really enjoyed it.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Cabin Fever is about the lines blurring dangerously between Norwegian therapist, Kristina Moss, and her patient, Leah Iverson. A really promising novel, Cabin Fever has fits and starts of brilliance with patches of slow moving story telling. I nearly gave up a few times as the pace was glacial but the writing is top-notch and kept me interested. I'm glad I stuck with it as the final push of the novel was well worth the slowness as the tension builds to a strong finish. I did crack much of the mysterious backstory but was waylaid, pleasantly, by a number of twists. Be patient and you might well enjoy Cabin Fever.

Therapist Kristina is worried about one of her clients. She has gone missing and wanted her to join her at her cabin. Finally Kristina ends up going out there but its going to cost her dearly as the truth about her own past as well as Leah's is all about to come out in all the true horror.

This was an interesting read and at times quite creepy. I do enjoy a scandinavian thriller. The plot is clever though I did guess a lot of the main secrets and twists by the end of the story. The ending was well done and finished the story off just as I expected it would. A good read but wasn't quite as page turning as i would have liked. That being said it was still a good read.

Cabin Fever is an intense, dark, and (at times) fast-paced psychological thriller that leads to a dramatic climax through myriad twists and turns. It was an absorbing read, complete with requisite red-herrings that (mostly) kept me guessing, as well as more than a fair dose of hypocrisy, duplicity, and redemption among its lead characters.

It may have meandered a little. At the 50% point, I wondered how on earth the story could play out further over the remaining half. But this was where it really got moving (from tremor to earthquake), and I found it impossible to put down.

Although I had figured out a few plot twists, the suspense was nevertheless compelling, the characters well-developed and engaging, and the descriptions of Norway captivating.

My first by this author and on this evidence, I will seek out her other work.

Reading this author after a long time, I was quite embroiled in the prose. But soon the prose went into descriptive lines and repetitive thoughts till Kristina reached the cabin.

All the parts regarding the manuscript and the secrets it hid were bloody explosive, and the truths made the suspense palpable. A couple of twists I could guess, and a couple blew my mind.

This book was such a dichotomy of thoughts. Had it been sharply edited and given a better flow, it would have rocked. It felt too much like a translated piece of work.

Read the beginning, skim, the midsection, then read the parts of Supernova carefully, and you will be completely enthralled.

Beautiful settings hide deeply buried, long-hidden mysteries that are slowly uncovered over the course of this tense and atmospheric novel. A real slow burner, Cabin Fever has you inching toward the edge of your seat, waiting for all the secrets to unravel. Although somewhat predictable, you're kept guessing all the way through until the nail-biting end.

A well deserved 5-star from me. I was hooked right from the first page. A claustrophobic menacing thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Excellent.

Therapist Kiristina is being stalked by her client. Married to a high profile politician, we feel the threat that this unhinged individual can do to Kristina's life.
I did feel the build up to the real events wasna little slow, however once things really got going this was a tense and addictive read.
I felt the changing perspectives was needed to build the plot and was clever, as the atmosphere really needed building from each person. You really felt that Kristina was in danger.
I thought I had guessed where this was going fairly early on, but the surprise twist really made this book. I didn't expect it at all and feel without it I would have been dissapointed.
All in all, a good thriller once it really got going, that reminds you not to judge on appearances.

This is a multi-layered, menacing Nordic noir that draws the reader into a world of danger and emotional darkness. Kristina is a high profile therapist whose client Leah, a successful novelist, appears to be the victim of an assault. Leah wants to meet with Kristina at her remote cabin, and although the therapist initially resists, her dedication to her patient takes her into a dangerous world.

This is gently paced, making the reader feel the claustrophobic tension Kristina experiences. Complex characters are not what they appear to be. There are many twists and a climactic ending. If you enjoy the darkness and suspense of Nordic noir with well written psychological suspense, this book is worth reading.

I received a copy of this book from 'Head of Zeus' via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

EXCERPT: I can't believe I didn't realise it before, that what I really wanted all along was to write to you. So that's what I'm going to do. A memoir, perhaps. No. A confession.

Kristina, I'm waiting for you. I pray that you'll come. I'm alone and I'm afraid for the future and I want to use this time to put everything I want to say to you into some kind of coherent account. I want to tell you everything myself, I have it all planned out in my head - you'll come here and you'll sit across from me and we'll light the fire and I will start from the beginning and I won't stop talking until there is absolutely nothing unsaid between us. If you can't or won't come or if something outside of my control happens to me, you'll find what you need here. Either way, I need you to know the truth.

ABOUT 'CABIN FEVER': You are her therapist.
Kristina is a successful therapist in central Oslo. She spends her days helping clients navigate their lives with a cool professionalism that has got her to the top.

She is your client.
But when her client Leah, a successful novelist, arrives at her office clearly distressed, begging Kristina to come to her remote cabin in the woods, she feels the balance begin to slip.

But out here in the woods.
When Leah fails to turn up to her next two sessions, Kristina reluctantly heads out into the wilderness to find her.

Nothing is as it seems.
Alone and isolated, Kristina finds Leah's unfinished manuscript, and as she reads she realises the main character is terrifyingly familiar...

MY THOUGHTS: I read Cabin Fever by Alex Dahl in one sitting, unable to put it down and now, four hours later, my heart is still pounding, my breathing ragged.

The main characters are all onions, multilayered, and eye-wateringly devious. I was shaking my head in delighted disbelief as the truth was slowly revealed, and I mean slowly, one nugget, one gem at a time until the final crescendo.

Alex Dahl has once again written an unsettling, unpredictable, extremely clever and very dark novel full of tension and suspense.

This week we’re having temperatures up to 40ºC so I was hoping to cool down a little bit reading Cabin fever, a Nordic noir in a snowy setting, but it left me tepid.

Kristina is a successful psychotherapist married to Eirick, the man set to be the next Norwegian prime minister. When Leah, one of her clients, shows up to a session with a bruised face and rambling on she tells Kristina that she will only explain what happened to her if she goes to a remote cabin she owns. Kristina thinks that would be crossing the boundaries of the doctor-patient relationship but when Leah misses her next appointments Kristina suspects something has happened so she’s compelled to go looking for her in her cabin but, is Leah the only thing she’s finding there?

If you’re thinking you’re gonna find a fast paced plot I’m sorry to say you’ll have to look elsewhere. This is SLOW! One of my issues was that the first half was really drawn out. Things don’t really start moving along until Kristina goes to the cabin and that doesn’t happen until the 50% mark. While it serves to present the characters, I feel a bit of a trim in this first half would have helped a lot to the rhythm. The characters weren’t really sympathetic and fairly unreliable, hiding some secrets all of them.

Once the action moves to the cabin things got better. Truths began to unveil and, as usual in novels in the genre, the claustrophobic feel was present in every page (nothing like being snowed in in a remote cabin in the middle of nowhere to feel a touch of claustrophobia!).

There were some twists that although not really surprising led to an overall satisfying conclusion.

This is a typical Scandinavian Noir thriller and it had me hooked from the first few pages. The tension and suspense have you on the edge of your seat. This is a fair paced, twisted and dark read. There is a lot of characters with traumatic pasts. You are kept guessing, trying to work it all out. The story has a dramatic ending.
