Thank you to NetGalley for letting me review this book.

This graphic novel is so fun, and a great pick for kids who are looking for something new to pick up after they have read DogMan for the tenth time or Catstronauts. This is about why Pluto isn't really a planet anyomore, and our team of Star Beasts who protect the planet. The illustrations in are fun and pop on the page, and the colors are showstopping.

Each member of the team has their own personality, so each reader is bound to find some animal that is their favorite. This could be a new family favorite for the kid (or adult) in your life!

The perfect intergalactic adventure to put into the hands of fans of CatStronauts. Readers will look for a sequel.

'Star Beasts' with story and art by Stephanie Young is a graphic novel about brave animals fighting to save the planet.

When Bandit leaves home, his owner doesn't know where he's gone. Little does she know that he captains a spaceship and he's been called away to fight a war to save Earth along with the other Star Beasts.

This had such potential, but felt so lackluster in execution. It may be that there were just too many characters, but there is not a lot of character development short of a few characters. The art is bright and fun, but the story left me wanting a lot more.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Outside of the missing pet framework (an element that didn't strike me as especially necessary) it's a pretty standard space adventure story. A relatively inexperienced captain at odds with the older members of his crew. Increasing problems cause him to question his suitability. The cast was more interesting but that only holds our attention so long.

The art style is cute.
But the story is paced and the way the dialogue is written is too bland and difficult to stay hooked to.
I could not finish the entire book.
Even though it is a children's book, it must be made a little more entertaining for adults to read too.

Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Star Beasts. Author Stephanie Young has done a great job with this graphic novel for children, with fast-paced action, easy to follow plot, and a few twists to keep readers guessing. The main characters are also engaging and nuanced, with clear flaws and strengths. Avengers-esque action and humor for the animal-loving kid!

Actual rating 3.5 stars

First off, the art style is absolutely gorgeous. The characters are crisp, the colors vibrant, and the space design captivating. Plot-wise this was quite basic and reminded me a lot of the movie Cats vs Dogs mixed in with Voltron. Not bad, but not that great either. The characters weren’t that developed either which made it hard to care about their plight.

Content Warnings: Space, abandonment, bullying, insecurity, war, general space battles, and runaway pet.

Do you want comical and adventurous space wars among rivalry planets of sentient animals? What about themes of friendship, protecting others, and coming into one's own confidence as a leader?

This standalone graphic novel is a beautifully illustrated space adventure featuring animals of varying species protecting human kind against alien planets with a focus on teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence.

This may be a children's graphic novel, but anyone can sit back to enjoy this lighthearted adventure with a colorful spectrum of space encounters with aliens and other phenomena. A lot happens in this longer graphic novel, and it is incredibly satisfying to look back at the full plot arc by the end of the story. The messages are great for kids and the high action plot entertaining enough for adults to enjoy as an easy read or pallet cleanser.

If you enjoy graphic novels, animals, and wholesome stories, I highly recommend checking this book out on August 17th, 2021. Oni Press never fails to impress me.

I enjoyed the illustrations and the characters. It lacked something, though. I had to restart this at least four times before I was able to get through the book.

Star Beasts is quite possibly the cutest and sweetest story I've ever read. I was rooting for Bandit from the star and even cried at the end. I'm just sad there wasn't more story. The art style is absolutely stunning and I completely adored the colour palettes. I couldn't have asked for more.

Star Beasts -- where your pet may disappear to be a captain in space!

This was a cute graphic novel for young readers. The story goes very quickly (which is great for readers like my kids that get bored quickly). It's touches topics of loss, feeling like a failure, not being enough, and love and family. Those may be big topics, but Young does an amazing job at handling them and even leaves us with an ending that will make you smile.

Thank you netgalley for the chance to review!

Star beasts is a children's/ middle grade graphic novel. I tried to like this book, I really did. However, it was all mushed together like my 7 year old wrote a story.

What happens when our pets go missing? Perhaps they're not missing at all - rather they've been chosen to be members of the prestigious Star Beasts, a band of animals whose duty it is to protect the world.

Bandit is called from his tranquil life on earth to be the new captain of the Condor, the Star Beasts ship, and his new-job nerves have him questioning everything, from his relationships with the crew to his fitness for the role. But his superiors have faith in him, and the team must find their groove in order to save everything and everyone they care about from certain doom.

Star Trek meets Zootopia, and with a bittersweet ending. This had my 8yo engrossed.

I read the Star Beasts graphic novel with my child who is obsessed with animals. Right away Bandit drew us in. The opening comic is sad, it touches your soul and will probably make you think of a time where you've lost an animal so you sympathize with Lilly and the way you assume she will feel when she comes home from school.

Now I'm pretty sure that not all "lost" pets have actually joined the Star Beasts but it's great to think they have some purpose elsewhere. We catch up with Bandit after a year and he's a newly appointed Captain of his vessel. The Star Beasts have a very important mission and readers see the struggles he faces not only with the mission but also in relating and dealing with the ship's crew. There are some tensions and maybe even some backstabbing. The story is fun while touching on some serious topics that you can further discuss with your child if you are reading this with them. I liked how the human footprint was incorporated into different animals' motives.

I can't help but wonder where the Star Beasts' next mission will take them?

I would like to thank NetGalley, Stephanie Young and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of Star Beasts. I am leaving a voluntary, honest review.

Animal lovers who love tons of action, a little bit of corny humor, and zapping between planets to save the world are going to adore this one.

Captain Bandit was a normal dog with a wonderful owner, but he's so much more than a good pal. He's a fresh captain with the Star Beasts, a group of highly selected animals, whose job it is to keep the world safe from alien issues. As a new captain, though, he's more than nervous to take on his first mission, especially when it lands him in an attack by the Crocs. No one can believe the true allies would suddenly attack like that, but then, no one ever dreamed they'd join the Krill of Pluto. Their mission is to destroy humanity, and while Captain Bandit isn't sure he should be a captain at all, he has no choice but to save the planet or lose everything he loves.

This is such a fun mix of animals and space adventure. The first pages touch the heart with a true blue dog, who has to sadly leave his owner for a space mission. It's hard not to want to hug Captain Bandit and wish him well. His ship's crew is just as fun—a broad variety of animals with tons of personality and quirks. Tension flies between them right along with humor, guaranteeing more than a giggle or two.

Then, there's the action. So much action. This might be a read for more beginner readers (ages 6 to 10) but that doesn't mean it slows down. The text is simple to read with some higher-terms and ideas thrown in to teach the reader, too. The plot, while holding high stakes and edge-of-the-seats moments, still remains right in tune with the age level. The Krill are dangerous and evil, and they are a force not to be ignored, but Captain Bandit's crew is a group with their own capabilities...even if it takes them a bit of back and forth to get that far. Add dinosaur bones, lasers, sloths, dazzle matter, stinky lemurs, and...well, it's not a boring mix.

I enjoyed this one and had no trouble reading it in one sitting, and loving each and every single animal along the way. I received an ARC through Netgalley.

Checked this out for my grandson. Glad I did because it's an adorable read. Great graphics! The characters are well developed and highly entertaining. The story is engaging. Thanks #netgalley and #OniPress for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

That was incredibly cute. I liked the illustration style; it's not convoluted, but still able to transport emotions in its simplicity. The different characters/beasts are well done, though I would've liked to see even more of them. Although the story is quite epic, it's very easy to read due to the humor and fast pace.
Overall 'Star Beasts' doesn't offer anything new, but it's cute and entertaining.
3.5 Stars.

I was given advance access to the #StarBeasts graphic novel on #NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Star Beasts is an adorable middle-grade graphic novel by Stephanie Young that takes you through the adventures of the Condor and her crew. The Condor’s inhabitants are from the Earth branch of a vast intergalactic network of beings. There's some intrigue, some touching moments, and some high-impact action.

I was rather reminded of Homeward Bound, meets Star Trek... sort of. It was a great time and really helped me out of the reading slump/weird headspace I was in for the last little bit. I will admit the ending was slightly cliché and slightly annoyed me because it was a bit cliché.

Looking at the cover art again, there’s a lot of references to the rest of the story. Overall, it was genuinely great and I'd definitely recommend it and rated it 4 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
