“Welcome to paradise…a resort as close to paradise as you’re likely to find. Perfect for an intimate, romantic holiday. Perfect in every way…offering everything you could want…unless you wished your spouse was dead…”

It’s Pippa’s wedding day, and she’s developed a severe case of cold feet. Pippa goes to the church, not to marry, but to tell her fiancé she can’t be with him any longer…it just didn’t feel right. Now she’s on a flight to a tropical resort for holiday that was supposed to be her honeymoon. Hoping the trip will allow her the time needed to sort out the mess her life has become, she never imagined it would actually put her smack dab in the middle of an investigation into the death of one of the resort guests. Nor did she dream she’d be caught up in the dramatic and deadly turn of events that would soon follow…

What in the fractured fairy tales did I just read?! Alison James has certainly kept this reader’s attention in her not so happily ever after tale of two honeymooning couples and their twisted and shocking entanglement! My lips are sealed for any further details, so you’ll just have to snag your own copy! This is your must have pool/beach read this summer! Loved and highly recommend!

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **

I really enjoyed this book. I think my favourite thing about it was that it took us on a real trip of the world - I love books set in exotic locations so to visit Mauritius, Australia and Thailand all in the same book was a treat.

It was really interesting trying to work out how all the characters relate to one another. I didn't guess the ending, and would be impressed if anyone did. I think the author did a fantastic job of planting mini-reveals throughout the book so we were constantly learning something new and didn't have to wait for a big information-dump at the end, which is the case in quite a few thrillers I have read recently.

The only thing I would say is that I think the book could have done without the romance between the investigators, but that is personal preference and some readers might love it.

I would absolutely recommend this book as it really kept me turning the pages and I think it was quite a unique plot.

Thank you to the #NetGalley and to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of Happily Ever After by Alison James in exchange for an honest review.

This book started out amazing, at a dream destination, with an interesting plot and intriguing characters. It was one of those light thrillers (nothing too dark or disturbing), so it was fun and relaxing to go through it. I also loved the writing style, as it was very simple and easy to follow.

Unfortunately, there were a few inconsistencies as well as a couple of things that felt a bit too convenient. They kept pulling me out of the story.

So, my general feeling about this book was – so so. Not bad, but in a need of a cleanup. But, there was a lot of potential there and I did enjoy most of the book. I definitely plan to check out the author’s other books.

Pippa has second thoughts the day of her wedding and calls it all off. Her fiancée didn’t seem completely heartbroken and Pippa finds out why-he’s been seeing someone else behind her back. Pippa decides to go on her honeymoon without him to get away and clear her head. When she gets there, she meets 2 other couples at the luxury resort-Tansy, a social media influencer and her husband Daniel, who doesn’t seem altogether happy to be there, and Nikki and Arne, who are very much in love. Pippa is alone until she meets another man who is also alone and she chats him up only to find out he’s there investigating a case involving one of the couples. He recruits Pippa to help him work undercover and things quickly spiral.
There was a lot to this book-fraud, murders, social media and how it plays a part in our everyday lives now and how money doesn’t alway equal happiness. Quite compelling.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.

This is a captivating read, I was drawn in by the end of the prologue and didn't lift my head until the last page. Until the victim's body is found I had no idea who would be killed although some characters were more loathsome than others so I had done some speculating. I could never have guessed who the killer would be and what their motivation was.,I was totally blindsided. I loved every single page of this book and I hope the epilogue means that we will be treated to more of Pippa and Jim. Soon. Please

Pippa calls off her wedding and goes on to the honeymoon by herself. Tropical resort is wonderful for newlyweds, but for the single woman can be considerably boring, until young bride is murdered. Pippa quickly becomes involved into the investigation that leads her around the world.

Two just married couples, presumably deeply in love, with hidden past and turbulent present. All in this fast paced thriller, that I've read in a one sitting. Yes, it's a fiction, but fantastic one. Protagonists are well developed and interesting. Tansy is a real piece of work! :) The plot is very exciting and perfect for summer.

Amazing read.

When Pippa gets cold feet and abandons her fiance at the alter, she decides to go on the honeymoon by herself. This is suppose to be a time of relaxation and deep contemplation. Instead she's brought into an investigation of a dead spouse who are at the same resort on their honeymoon! This is not a book with happy endings, it seems like everyone has a secret and will go to the very end to protect it.

I really liked this book. It was fast paced, and kept me interested the entire time. There were a few moments that seemed a little too 'coincidental' - but its fiction, I get it. I was drawn in by the summary, but the storyline was not what I expected! And that's okay, because it was a quick and enjoyable read. I'm interested in reading other books by this author in the future!

Thank you Alison James, Bookouture and NetGalley for the advance copy to read in return for my honest review!

Alison James has another hit on her hands. With Happily Ever After she has earned at least five ***** from me! A fascinating domestic thriller with plenty of twists and turns. This would be a wonderful beginning to a series! I would love to see Pippa and Cardle back again.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

After having second thoughts Pippa calls off her wedding to Alistair and realises that she has had a lucky escape. When he confesses that he has been seeing someone else. So, she decides to go on the honeymoon anyway to the beautiful island of Mauritius.
When she gets to the luxury resort, she is not the only one on her ’honeymoon’. There is Tansy and Daniel who seem to have it all with money and looks. Tansy is a social media influencer whoso many thousands of followers and Daniel who doesn’t seem to be that happy to be on his honeymoon. There is also Nikki and Arne, a very loved up couple. Pippa seems to be the only singleton there until she sees Jim Cardle sitting on his own. She plucks up the courage and goes and introduces herself. What has she got to lose? When Pippa inquires what he does for a living, he tells her he is Private investigator, and he is on a case investigating one of the couples.
I have read all Alison James’ novels, although this is different to her usual style of writing this did not disappoint. There is so much going on in this book murder, fraud, the world of social media and how influencers build their empires and how money can control people’s lives. The author did a brilliant job of keeping the reader engaged throughout with its twists and turns and compelling storyline. The only negative point that I thought the ending was a bit abrupt. Maybe I am nit picking here. 4.5 stars from me.

There is so much more to this book than how the description reads!!! It was amazing. Each piece of the puzzle lead to a deeper tie together in the plot. So good!!

Oh, I have to tell the truth. I expected a completely different story from the description. Yes, a honeymoon, two couples ... one dies unhappily. It's all true. But in the end, no one was happy. Anyway I enjoyed the book a lot. It was so interesting to discover secrets after secrets. I loved the main character Pippa, who got the lead role in it, and I would love to read the next book of what all she could discover. I look forward to reading more about this author.

This book had me engrossed from the outset with both the setting, the characters & the numerous twists and turns. It keeps you guessing throughout.

Like previous books from Alison James this did not disappoint.

To be honest I found this book a bit difficult to follow and not so much confusing but when it would flip back and forth between present time in the past it did get a little muddled. But other than that the book had a decent pace and some twists and turns that I didn't see coming so overall it was a decent book. But I wouldn't say it was a quick read because some parts did take a little bit to get into and as I said before the flipping between present past was not as clean as it could have been. Overall I would say between three and a half and four stars. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this Arc in exchange for an honest review

Happily Ever After by Alison James. Far, far and away from a happy ending. Secrets, clever and compelling plot, some likeable and some thoroughly horrid characters, and a maze of twists and turns make for a fast paced dark mystery thriller. Pippa and James are an unlikely pair but work well together in uncovering the lies and solving the crime. Tansy is the unparalleled media darling, vain, self absorbed and vile. An interesting and enjoyable read.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Till death do us part, sadly for one couple celebrating their honeymoon in a luxury resort in Mauritius this comes much too soon. Tansy and Daniel are newlyweds who appear to have it all, looks money and a :celebrity " lifestyle. But already cracks are starting to appear. Is their marriage a sham. On the other end if the scale are Nikki and Arne who are really loved up. Pippa has gone to the resort for her honeymoon despite not getting married. When she is caught up in a tragedy she joins forces with Jim, a PI, who is at the resort investigating one of the couples.
This thriller has it all, beautiful resort, likeable characters, and a whodunit vibe. Very good novel

Happily ever after... that's what everybody hopes to be after getting married. And some really nail it. They are heads over heal in love with their other half and vice versa. Others are playing the main role in their own story that has a lot of people fooled or so they think. Some are obliged to say 'I do' even if they swore they would never utter those words.

This could be the title of a very romantic book and in a way it is, but the romance is very short lived for some tragic reasons. It never bodes well when you see a cover like this. A red rose is the utter sign of true love, but when it's combined with droplets of blood, you already have a feeling which way the author will take you.

Make sure you have your bags packed, because the author takes us travelling. We visit Mauritius, Australia, England and Thailand. They are absolute gorgeous places, but all are covered with a veil of sadness.

The story starts in the present. In the next part we are taken back a bit in time for some revelations and the story continues in the present. Suddenly, in the next part the clock has been turned back almost two decades for more devastating details and finally the plot explodes in the present.

I liked this story a lot. Is the author finished with our investigating duo? I wonder... 4 stars

Thank you, Alison James and Bookouture
