Just Haven't Met You Yet Sophie Cousens

I am mostly a thriller reader, but every so often I need something light and easy to read.
I liked Laura as a character, and enjoyed her escapdes. I had a fair idea where this book was going, but didn't feel like that took away from the book.
I would definitely read more from this author.

I am fast becoming a huge Sophie Cousens fan. This book was great. I grew up as a regular visitor to the Channel Islands, and it made me want to go back as an adult and see the isles again. Very in depth descriptions. Loved Ted

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Love the books by Sophie Cousens and this rom-com was enjoyable too. Following Laura, who is on a journey to locate the owner of a suitcase that she picked up by accident on a trip to the Channel Islands - which leads her straight to the man of her dreams.

I loved the plot and the character development and the book was full of just the right amount of romance, humour, drama without any waffling.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Random House UK for approving me for an ARC of this book.

💞Fun, flirty and humorous! This book was entertaining from cover to cover. From the chaotic airport journey to Laura’s first meeting with Ted you can guarantee you’ll be charmed.

🧑🏻‍❤️‍💋‍👩🏻With Laura on the search for her missing suitcase and the mystery man I had a feeling how things might turn out and which direction I wanted the story to go. I’m pleased to say that I wasn’t disappointed and loved the will they won’t they aspect of the story.

🪙The added letters, that focused on Laura’s parents, gave another side to the story. These fill in the gaps and shed a lot of light on what really happened.

⭐This was a surprisingly quick read. If you love light-hearted romance with swoon-worthy characters and a little steam then this is for you!

I was so excited to see another book by this author because I knew it meant another book I couldn’t put down. I was absolutely not disappointed! Just Haven’t Met You Yet has everything you are looking for in an easy to read, funny, romantic, and often poignant novel. I found myself laughing, crying, and often writing down so many little quotes that resonated with me so well. The characters are real and beautiful. I wanted more of them. I could absolutely dive into a sequel about Ted and Laura. Was it somewhat predictable? Absolutely, but in the best way. I was excited to see a happy ending unfold for a character who felt like a friend. I was also a bit nervous at some points to think things might not turn out quite as expected. This was such a good read. A happy, fun, flirty, funny, romantic take on life and our expectations in love.

I absolutely loved Just Haven't Met You Yet. It's a perfect feel-good romance with well developed and lovable characters, family, friends, plenty of humour, poignancy, and the Channel Islands, which is a character in its own right and I now really want to visit!

Laura is a journalist who writes about people's love stories. She treasures her own parents' love story since her father died when she was young but her mother always kept his memory and love alive. Following her mother's death, Laura decides to combine retracing their romance with a visit to Jersey to promote it as a holiday destination.

When Laura arrives at her hotel, she realises she's accidentally brought someone else's suitcase. However, the suitcase contains so many of her favourite things that she is compelled to meet this man who she believes must be her soul mate.

Whilst tracking him down, she recreates moments from her parents' romance as well as meeting new friends, estranged relatives, and learning more about her history. At the same time discovering what is really important to her and what she wants from life, even if things don't quite go to plan.

I instantly loved Just Haven't Met You Yet and I found myself looking forward to reading it before going to bed. It's a story of family, friendship, love and an ode to the island of Jersey.

A compelling read, I know I cared deeply for the characters and their stories. It was real and funny and heartwarming and when I finished it, I found myself smiling. Just the perfect feel-good read!

I have learnt a new way to assess books - do 2 female characters have a serious conversation without talking about romance and the men in their life? I would add to this concept, also not talking about weddings, clothes, shopping, children, husbands, houses and their contents, famous people, gossip, and the list could continue. At least Sophie knew this and got her female characters to attempt this.
I found this a fun book as it took the whole meet cute concept and gentlg made fun of it. Meet cutes only, really, happen to 1 in several thousand romances as the statistics do indeed show. Most of us meet through friends and work. Or online now of course.
Jersey is truly a lovely island and this book has reminded me of the holiday there when my kids were tiny and our baby crawled on the beach finding and chewing on cigarette butts. Beaches weren't that clean then!
I'm going to read the bext one now as I also have that in my TBR pile. Thanks Sophie.

*3.75 stars // Firstly, I'd like to thank Netgalley and Cornerstone for the eARC for an honest review.

This is my 2nd Sophie Cousins' book and I really loved This Time Next Year and rated it 4.5 stars! I was so excited to see Cousins publish her next book and was so grateful to get a eARC through Netgalley. The thing I loved most about this book was the setting. It's set on the small island of Jersey and the way Cousins was able to describe it throughout the book has really made me consider it as a next holiday destination!

The first half of the book didn't grab me in a way I thought it would. I didn't particularly like the main character and thought she was a little annoying and oblivious to what was happening around her. It definitely meant I read the book a lot slower than I might usually. The 2nd half of the book saved it for me. Laura and Ted's relationship was a bit of a slow burn with both of them not being sure about their own feelings. I really liked Ted's character (it could also be described as a grumpy/sunshine relationship) who was clearly such a lovely guy. The revelations about Laura's family and her realisation that perfect 'meet cutes' aren't the be all and end all really meant that her character arc went through a huge journey by the end of the book. The fact that I didn't like her in the beginning of the book could have been intentional but I think it is quite a risk to take as people could stop reading.

The ending was great and everything that should have happened did. I did question whether the two characters really suited and maybe the change in Laura was a little unrealistic but in the end I did enjoy this read. I'm looking forward to Cousens next book, Before I Do.

Amy x

I was lured in by a beautiful cover into expecting a deep and meaningful romance. Instead, I got a standard rom-com. Don't get me wrong it's a good enough book, but just not one that stands out which is a shame.

Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens follows journalist Laura heading back to Jersey to learn about her parents and their love story.

A luggage mishap ensues (apt for the current climate!) and Laura’s case is accidentally swapped with a mystery man. Looking through the case she thinks this could be her dream man (Phil Collins is involved need I say more…), so whilst learning more about her parents she sets out to find this man with the help of a taxi driver named Ted. I won’t share more of the synopsis as it is readily available.

I enjoyed seeing Laura develop as a character and go on her own journey- at the beginning of the book she had been holding out for ‘Mr Right’ and was in search of an epic love of her own, perhaps seeming a bit naïve at times, but Cousens explores the idea of what Laura thinks she wants vs what she actually wants and her self-discovery is at the forefront of this book. The rest of the characters were also great, Ted was grumpy foil for Laura’s sunshine and I enjoyed learning more about him and his family, as well as the Islanders and Laura’s family.

Although the romantic relationship features in the book (as expected in romantic fiction), we also get friendships developing and bombshells being dropped. Moreover, this is also very much a love letter to Jersey. I loved the island setting and it was brought to life in the book (side note: I also loved the inclusion of the map) which allowed the reader to really visualise the locations and connect with the residents we meet. I definitely want to visit Jersey, for an amazing hot chocolate if nothing else!

I loved this story! Laura was one of the most likeable characters I have come across lately. She was so sweet and relatable. And her story! Finding the suitcase of the person she feels she was meant to be with, but then second guesses herself and what she thinks she wants. Will she end up with suitcase man or is something else in the stars for her? Oh this was such a great read! I figured out the outcome early on but I still couldn't put it down.

Thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to read more books by Sophie Cousens!

What a delicious little love story!!!
And a great reminder that we will often miss what is right in front of our faces because we're so focused on the "signs" and how we feel that things SHOULD be! This was a precious love story that could be devoured in one sitting. I tremendously enjoyed the unraveling of "perfection" and the beginnings of a REAL romance for Laura and Ted. Thank you to Netgalley for a digital copy of this fabulous book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting premise, but damn, Laura did some suspect things in order to try and find love! I felt it was a little stalker-ish at first, but Ted saved it for me cause I love a grump!
