Sophie Cousens is a superb author - her writing is witty, charming and a joy to read. ‘Just haven’t met you yet’ is a book that I’ve been dying to read ever since I put down my last Cousens book and for the most part it did not disappoint - likeable characters, fantastic scene setting and a story that kept me turning those pages. All in all a great romance read that I’m sure will be a page turner for many.

I absolutely loved it from start to finish. Although it's a typical rom-com, there were a few twists I was not expecting. This is a very good easy, chill out read, perfect with a glass of wine! It makes you feel so good! This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5/5.

Review of Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousins

This is the story of Laura, a hopeless romantic who is a writer for a lifestyle website and writes articles about true love and relationships. She is desperate to find her own amazing true love story. She is on a trip to Jersey to retrace her parents love story, as it is where they met. At the airport there is a mix up and she ends up with the wrong suitcase. The contents of the said suitcase lead her to believe that the owner would be her Mr Right. Cue a fun filled story with a happy dose of romance and humour of Laura trying to find the owner of said suitcase. Helped in her mission by a friendly taxi driver.
I really enjoyed this story, good characters and well written, and a lovely setting.

I loved this book, was lovely to 'see' Jersey and also follow the love story around the island both hoping and knowing it wouldn't quite work out how it should do from the outset.

If only I could have read it while lying on a beach or by a pool!

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. Having read a previous book by this author I was hoping for a great story and I wasn’t disappointed, it had everything laughter, tears and love. I will be recommending this book to my friends.

I loved this warm, easy, joy filled story - great characters, an interesting concept and beautiful setting. Would recommend.

I loved this book! It was sweet, romantic, emotional and even though as a reader I knew who she should be with long before she realised you still found yourself gripped and hoping she would work it out.

Laura is a great character she goes from dreamy and quite wishy washy to someone who is determined to get what she wants. I liked the journey she goes on in discovering her past and how this impacts on the decisions she makes throughout. I laughed when she 'stole' the suitcase and felt like cheering when she finally stood up for herself to her nightmare of a boss ( something I'm sure alot of people can relate to )

When she finally realises that Ted is the man for her you feel good for her and really glad that she gets her happy ever after.

The descriptions of Jersey and the foods were fantastic, I now find myself wanting to visit there to see and taste it for myself!

‘Just Haven’t Met You Yet’ -Sophie Cousens
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Now my FAVOURITE romance novel. Ever.

Cousens has such a rare and innate ability to knit characters into the very fibres of your heart. Initially I was dubious of Laura- but overtime her erratic and hopelessly optimistic nature resonated with me. She conveys a spirit that’s in all of us; hopeful, sometimes scatty and always hilarious- finding herself in the most dubious of situations, through 100% fault of her own (we’ve all been there).

Her quest for love is amiable because, after all, a meaningful connection is a common humanistic trait. Her desire for fate to intervene and change her unsuccessful love life is comedic at times and heartbreaking in others.

The plot (just like Cousen’s previous novel- ‘This Time Next Year’) was genius. The pace was pitched perfectly and it felt immersive- like a best friend following Laura’s journey in her plight for love.

I completely; utterly and hopelessly fell in love with this novel and am certain it will do incredibly well upon publication day in November.

Genre: Romance | Romantic Comedy

Release Date: Expected 11th November 2021

Publisher: Random House UK, Cornerstone

As a columnist specialising in swoon-worthy love stories, Laura knows a potential romance when she sees one. But sadly, she's had a serious lack of them in her own life.

When a work trip takes her back to the place her favourite love story began - her parents. Searching for inspiration for a one-of-a-kind story on the Isle of Jersey, she feels the romance in the air. So when she accidentally ends up with the wrong suitcase at the airport she can't help but wonder. This bag, with a battered copy of her favourite book, sheet music of her favourite artist, and thoughtful presents for the mystery owners mother seems like the beginning of her very own meet-cute.

Determined to find the owner, she enlists the help of a grumpy cab driver turned tour guide with a lovely beard and sets about the Island in search of a great story and true love -- but the course of true love never runs smooth, does it?

Just Haven't Met You Yet was the perfect meet-cute. It took everything you'd usually expect from a love story - a possible love triangle, the instant connections, the mishaps and misunderstandings and gave it such a loveably unique charm all of it's own. I guessed pretty early on where Laura might end her epic love story - and while some of it felt determined from the start, the journey there was absolutely wonderful.

Shamelessly, hopelessly romantic - this was a perfect blend of vibrant, feminist women and indulgent romance. Laura dreams of standing up against the patriarchy and standing up for her rights as a woman but dreams of love and romance - because nobody said a strong woman can't enjoy fairytales if that's what she wants.

Every character was built up so well I thought I could reach out and touch them, everyone fully formed and so easy to instantly connect with. They were flawed, stupid, naive and just plain annoying at times - but they were so real.

This was a beautiful story, and although I loved watching Laura embark on her Epic love story - this was a story about family, about history, about the different forms of love and all the things that come together to give us identity - Sophie Cousens has outdone herself with this one, I can't wait to see where she goes next.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to Sophie Cousens, Random House and Netgalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

This is a feel good location based romance. You could almost believe it was a love story for Jersey! Some of the sights and scenery are beautiful. The main character, Laura, was likeable but not loveable in my mind and so a 5 star read this was not, for me anyway, she was a little self absorbed and immature but nothing too offensive, the men were wonderful and could’ve had more of a story but the book was a growing love story that blossomed in the way you’d expect and makes for an ideal light summer read.

SOPHIE COUSENS – JUST HAVEN’T MET YOU YET ****

I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I’m of two mind about this novel, which is a shame, as I like to be positive. Though totally predictable - I knew the ending within the first few pages - it is nevertheless a warm and engrossing story that provides shades of uncertainty in the mind of the reader.

I was ambivalent about the main character, which didn’t help – not a woman I would like in real life, so I didn’t particularly care about her, as I should. I felt more concern for the men in her life, as I felt she didn’t treat either of them with much respect.

The Jersey locations work well (the author lives there), as do some of the more eccentric periphery characters. The story itself rattles along at a good pace and it’s easy to read. The sort of book designed for a deckchair on the beach, where you have all sorts of other distractions to watch at the same time.

What irritated me, and has resulted in 4 stars not 5, was the often slap-dash prose. Other readers may not mind. For me, it was enjoyable, but with tightening and more polished prose, it could have been better.

Thank you NetGalley for inviting me to read this novel! I read This Time Next Year by the author and actually preferred this one over it! Laura finds herself in a love triangle after heading to Jersey to write about her parents love story. My only reasoning for not giving this one 5 stars was Jasper. He was too perfect, there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. The insta love between them, or insta attraction was just a little too much to me. I absolutely loved Ted and was on team Ted the whole ride. Every supporting character was great (minus Suki) and the book flowed nicely. There was no ridiculous misunderstanding that takes up half the novel to resolve itself. If you liked her first novel, definitely check this one out!

As always, thank you for the invite to review!

Just Haven't Met You Yet is a Buble song that I can never quite get out of my head despite the fact it's been about 4 years since I last heard it, but it is also the name of a particularly wonderful book by Sophie Cousens, all about the perfect combinations of coincidences.

Being the stone cold cynic that I am, a good case of mistaken love is right up my street, and I thoroughly enjoyed this particular example. It's a feel good, devour in one sitting kind of book, although I did deduct a start because it didn't make me feel quite all of the feels.

I particularly relished the line 'are moving to Farnham and apparently you need a car if you live outside London', mainly because I have to drive through Farnham for work and it could really do with less cars, but that's a story for another day.

Overall, a great book for those that enjoy a romance with a pleasant (but not too healthy) touch of modern day reality where not everything goes the way you think it will.

The book is about Laura’s visit to Jersey and exploring the places where her parents met and fell in love. She is also working for a website, looking for stories and hoping to write about the places her parents visited.

I enjoyed the humour and sisterhood between friends, and Laura’s hopes of finding a romance as perfect as she perceives her parents to have had. Characters and scenery are beautifully described; you feel you are strolling along the beaches, feeling the gentle breezes in your hair, as Laura explores the scenic Channel Island shores. Laura has photos of some of the places her parents discovered, and she is helped to find them by Ted, her taxi driver who drives her around the island.

The strength of the book is within its characters, her quirky friends, along with her developing friendly relationship with Ted, while hoping to find romance with Jasper, who seems to share many of her own desires. A charming, light-hearted, romantic story with lots of humour.

I can feel that Sophie Cousens is going to be a new favourite author to my ever-growing list - she's definitely up there with Emma Cooper, Shari Low, Marian Keyes and Jill Mansell.

After the release of the triumph that was 'This time next year,' I couldn't wait to read her next novel and what a beauty it is.
'Just haven't met you yet' begins when Laura a journalist (she writes true-life stories - mostly centering on love stories) picks up the wrong suitcase at the airport. Her editor sends her in search of her missing case, hoping she will fall in love along the way. The 'wrong suitcase' contains piano music from her favourite artist - Phil Collins and her favourite novel - To Kill a Mockingbird - Laura thinks this is her destiny - to find the owner so her editor sends her in search of her missing case, hoping she will fall in love along the way.

The tale has some epic laugh-out-loud moments and also some very poignant moments. I was truly rooting for Laura and her tale of love.

I loved Sophie Cousen’s previous book ‘This Time Next Year’ and was super excited to see she had a new book out. ‘Just haven’t met you yet’ does not disappoint. Right from the opening chapters you become invested in the characters as they are brought to life. It really is a wonderful book and one I highly recommend.

Laura is a writer who works for ‘Love Life’ alongside her friend and flatmate, Vanya. When her boss, Suki, demands that someone come up with something spectacular everyone’s heads are bowed. Laura, thinking on the spot, starts to talk about her own parents and the romantic story of how they met. Suki is sold on the idea and Laura jets off to Jersey to revisit some of the places her parents visited the summer they met.

Arriving in Jersey, Laura grabs a cab and is rude to the driver when he tells her to ‘cheer up’. She gets to her hotel only to discover she has lifted the wrong baggage!!! Trying to find the identity of the owner, Laura rifles through the contents and becomes convinced this is her ‘meet cute’ and it is destiny that this has happened. She then embarks on a journey to try to find the owner in between retracing her parents footsteps and trying to appease Suki all with the help of the cab driver she was rude to.

The book is hilarious in parts but also touches on some sad and delicate issues. I thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Sophie’s 2020 publication – This Time Next Year – was a beautiful book and had set the bar high for her next! You won’t be disappointed to know that her second publication is just as, if not more, charming and wonderful.

Just Haven’t Met You Yet is a heartwarming and, at times, hilarious novel that does not disappoint. It’s another hybrid of genres – winding contemporary fiction with domestic drama and romance.

The characters are brilliant but the setting is absolutely stunning. The research and local knowledge that has gone into this book is a treat and reading it was like taking a vacation to Jersey! If you’re looking for a book that will make you smile, laugh and feel good… look no further.

Beautiful story with lots of will they, won't they in it. Some older stories woven through the modern romance makes this a delightful read.

What a fun book! Many thanks to NetGalley for the ARC given in exchange for an honest review. This was cute. It got quite a few laughs from me. Yes, it was predictable but aren't all rom-coms? It did not make me skip pages or skim read because the dialogue and writing was just very entertaining. This book left me feeling the way I often feel after reading a good Jill Mansell book--relaxed, happy and hoping to find another book to hold my attention as well as this one did.

I very much enjoyed Sophie’s previous novel so was looking forward to this one.
It did not disappoint.
Set mainly in Jersey, it is the story of Laura, who is trying to bring alive her parents love story after they have passed away.
She believes in fate and romance but sometimes it’s found in the less obvious places.
A good beach read and a lovely depiction of Jersey, this will be a hit this summer with readers looking for escapism, romance and distraction.
The characters are likeable, in the main. I loved the character of Ted.
I would recommend this for a light, enjoyable read to while away those long summer days.
