Being familiar with this author's YA books, I was curious how she would do with adult fiction and I found I really enjoyed this magical, funny read. Who wouldn't want to hex their ex?!

This was the delightfully cute romcom I needed during this whirlwind of a year. This book gave me massive Hocus Pocus vibes and I was so here for it. It was a very sweet romance with a lot of spark but nothing too explicit which makes it really easy to recommend broadly in the library. I can't wait for this to come out in the fall. Will be perfect for any witchy displays you may want to put up!

The Ex-Hex was better than I expected. I am trying to broaden my horizons into romance novels, and I was really entertained. The main character was believable, so was her love interest, and the story line was unexpected. The steamy scenes were well written, and the book was just overall CUTE. Can't wait for a sequel! 4/5 stars because I felt like not much happened plot-wise in the first half of the novel.

Review: This is a standalone book by Erin Sterling that combines witchcraft, broken hearts, vodka, and the mystery of Halloween into a fun romance. I enjoyed the world-building of Graves Glen, Georgia and would love to see a sequel or series set in the same!

Vivienne Jones had her heart broken 9 years ago by Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s founder. She mourned the loss as best she could, with a bath, vodka, and an Orchard-Hayride scented candle curse. She should have listened to her Aunt Elaine who insisted, “Never mix vodka and witchcraft.”

Now it’s Founder’s Day and the annual fall festival, but more importantly, it’s time for the town’s ley lines to be recharged by a Penhallow. As luck would have it, Rhys is back in town, and Vivienne finds it difficult to ignore the chemistry that’s only burning hotter than before. When Rhys’ life is threatened by a series of incidents, Vivienne realizes that her curse may not be as harmless as she thought. This second-chance romance is steamy and fun!

The Ex Hex is just delightful. The characters were clever, and the story was fun. It's like a Sarah Addison Allen novel, but more witchy and more steamy. It's just what I needed.

Be still my Bewitched heart!

This book follows our main character, who curses her ex after their break up semi-unintentionally, bringing him back to town several years later; chaos ensues.

I found the book to be a bit slow and uninteresting until the main character and her love interest came back together. Their romance is definitely the driving factor of the book, and it's fortunately very well done, which is what makes the book so good.

I came into this book as a fan of one of the author's previous books, Her Royal Highness. I think this book was better in a lot of ways. First of all, I enjoy adult romance more, so this already has a leg up. Secondly, the writing is a lot more mature and shows more skill in character development and relationship chemistry in this book. The tension between our love interests in this book is delicious, and definitely beats my love for HRH.

Overall, the romance in this book is fantastic, and I will definitely be recommending this book to my followers come Halloween time. Thank you for the ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

CW: death of a parent (past), family tensions, brief unnecessary to plot Harry Potter mention

I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)

-m/f paranormal romance
-second chance
-frenemies to lovers
-sexual tension
-a witchy festival
-seven minutes in the closet of a haunted house

This was just a fun and enjoyable read. Welsh Rhys, loyal to his family,. Vivienne, fighting the conflict between her public life and her witchy private life. An adventure filled with witchcraft, a hex, some research, and family hijinx.

I loved how the second chance romance was done in this one. A brief summer romance, this book doesn't rely on flashbacks, but the sexual tension of I remember what it's like. Which was delicious and so anticipatory. You know it's going to be good and better than they remembered. What broke them up was simple and easy to understand with their youth which I appreciated.

I would have loved more backstory for both MCs, especially with the witchy backstory and Rhys family having such a history. that the book is advertised as Hocus Pocus with sex, I also had assumed it would be more open door.

First of all. That cover! I adored Bewitched, even if it originally aired before my time, and the cover sent me back to the opening credits, with Samantha. Just such a great choice, snagged me immediately.
Now, as for what’s in the pages, we’ll this is another case of ‘hooked by the cover, but stayed for the story’ for me. I love when that happens.
At the core of everything, Vivi & Rhys each make some mistakes that lead them to this second chance. And what an unexpected trip it is for them!
I never bother summarizing what I’ve read, so here’s my official statement.
This one gave me laughs and cheers, sisters before misters, family is the root of all vibes, and I loved it all. This one is sure to be a hit!

This was a fun second-chance romance read that will be perfect for the fall season. Vivi and Rhys broke up under less than amicable circumstances years ago, and right after the breakup Vivi indulged in some good old-fashioned magical trash-talking. Unbeknownst to her, the trash-talking ends up taking the form of an actual curse, activated only when Rhys is forced to return to Vivi's hometown to complete a magical ritual his ancestors have completed every 25 years. All of a sudden, Vivi and her ex have to team up to reverse the curse before things get even worse.

I did find the beginning of this book a little slow, but things picked up once the love interests reunited. All characters were likable, though I kept hoping for them to develop more depth. I was also a little bummed when the most significant development in the relationship between the hero and heroine happened in an off-the-page time jump, but the scenes we DO get are cute.

There was a little more of a mystery/who-done-it aspect than I expected, which added interest and intrigue! Overall, this was a fast and fun read, and I can see a lot of readers enjoying it. I also think the writing is very cinematic in a way that would make for a fun screen adaptation.

Vivi’s nursing a broken heart over the gorgeous Rhys Penhallow, a descendant of the town’s founders. So she does what any young witch would do. She curses him after breaking her aunt’s rule of never mixing witching with vodka.

Nine years later, Vivi’s moved on with her life. Or so she thinks. Until Rhys shows up in town for the annual fall festival and to recharge the town’s leylines. When one mishap follows another, Vivi realizes that maybe her curse worked a little too well. Now Vivi and Rhys have to figure out how to break the curse as it starts to cause mayhem all over town.

Such a fun second chance, lovers to enemies to lovers romance! All of the sparkling banter you could want. Quirky secondary characters who I hope will get stories of their own in the future. Awkward family relationships. Bonus talking cat. And some serious steam between the leads!

With The Ex-Hex, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling has made the perfect romance to read while sipping your PSL. This book has all of the autumn vibes for a warm, sexy, un-put-downable read.

Described by the author as a grown up Hocus Pocus, The Ex Hex is a cute rom-com with more than a dash of magic.

Vivi is a witch. Like a real, does magic, witch. And when she gets her heart broken by Rhys at the tender age of 19, she and her cousin break her aunt's cardinal rule: don't mix vodka and magic. Vivi drunkenly curses her ex with all the silly vengeance of a heartbroken teenager. Fast forward many years, and Vivi still lives in the magical town, teaching at the local half-magic, half-mortal college when Rhys walks (or rather crashes) back into her life. Rhys is a descendent of the town's original founder, and is there to celebrate the anniversary of the town's founding and replenish the ley lines that fuel the town's magic. Except, unbeknownst to Rhys and Vivienne, her drunken curse all those years ago is real and Rhys has just passed it on through the ley lines to the entire town. Magical hijinks ensue as the exes try to save the town from runaway magic, all while trying to keep their own feelings under control.

This book feels like the absolutely perfect Halloween read. Funny and charming, I found myself invested in even the smallest characters (we are getting a book about each of Rhys' brothers, right??? Right???). I would definitely recommend this book to all of those Millennials who grew up watching Hocus Pocus every October and need something a little more updated with all of the heart and magic that we loved. There's even a talking cat!

Nine years ago Vivienne Jones (Vivi) and Rhys Penhallow had a summer fling. Your run of the mill college romance except it involved two witches and a curse when things went south. Vivi was heartbroken and maybe a little drunk when she and her cousin Gwyn used a scented to candle to "cast their curse" they're sure wasn't actually a curse. However, when Rhys returns to Graves Glen, Georgia to recharge the town's ley lines and things start to go to weird they have to reconsider if maybe there was a little something more their spell that night. As not only Rhys' fate, but all of Graves Glen is on the line, Vivi and Rhys will have to work together if they want both to survive this year's Samhain night.

Such a fun book with New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling. This is a quirky romance with main characters that will charm readers with their banter. It's a great second chance love story where both characters have had the opportunity to grow and hopefully come back together more mature than the last time around. I really enjoy Vivi as a polka dot wearing history professor who walks to the beat of her own drum. There are interesting familial ties for both main characters, Vivi with Gwyn, and her Aunt Elaine, Rhys with his father and brothers. I would have liked to dig a little deeper into both character's pasts, but I could definitely see this becoming a series featuring extended family members. Highly recommend for all romance readers, whether or not you typically find yourself drawn into witchcraft and wizardry this book will ultimately charm and bewitch all readers who won't be able to put it down.

The Ex Hex is the fun, sexy and sarcastic romp that you imagine. Someone on Twitter compared it to a CW show and I believe that is an apt comparison. The pages fly away as the banter between Vivi and Rhys flows while they try to figure out how to undo the hex. I will have no problem recommending this to my customers.

I read this book in one day and I wish I had taken my time instead of ABSOLUTELY DEVOURING IT. But I can explain why I read it so quickly. It was so good. LIKE SO GOOD. There’s magic. There’s lovers to enemies to lovers. There’s brooding and flirting and it’s centered around Halloween. I am so glad I got to read this ARC and I can’t wait to recommend it to every single person I know when it’s released in October. 10/10.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I have been eagerly anticipating it since the author began discussing it on Twitter and was super thrilled to find it on NetGalley. I read it in less than 24 hours and then began reading it again once I finished. This was definitely a light, fun, sassy read and something I needed.

Nine years ago, Rhys Penhallow broke Vivi Jones's heart ... so she hexed him. Now, in the present day, the hex is rearing its head, and threatens everything and everyone Vivi loves - including Rhys himself.

This sparkling screwball romantic comedy has everything I love: witty banter, bonkers scenarios, and ... a talking cat. We haven't seen many paranormal romances this year, and definitely not one with a talking cat named Sir Purrcival. I'll be shocked if this is not on any Best Romance lists for 2021.

Thanks to William Morrow and NetGalley for this eARC. I have been hotly anticipating this one!

Rachel Hawkins/Erin Sterling is one of my favorite Twitter personalities and this witchy small town romance with a Welsh hero is TRULY her niche. This was incredibly cute and fun! Vivi and Rhys were in love manyyyyy years ago and when they broke up, Vivi maybe cursed him (in her defense, she didn't think it would work with a candle from Bath and Body Works AND she'd had a little vodka). 10 years later, Rhys returns to Georgia for witch reasons, and the curse causes shenanigans. Vivi and Rhys have great chemistry, the cozy north Georgia
college town is adorable, and the supporting cast, especially Vivi's cousin, is great.

Look I say this so often, but truly this movie writes itself, and everything is filmed in Georgia these days! Come on Netflix!

Can't wait for the next Erin Sterling!
