This charming picture book follows a walrus who decides to try and learn ballet. The story is a lovely tale of pushing your boundaries and trying new things, but also has a theme of environmental awareness, which is important for our current global situation. The themes of perseverance and determination make this a heartwarming story perfect for any child or walrus-lover.

This is an excellent book about how it's never too late to change and follow your dreams. Mixed in is a message about how we need to stop polluting the oceans. The illustrations are beautiful, funny, and add to the story. Highly recommended!

Franz-Ferdinand The Dancing Walrus by Marcus Pfister is a charming story about finding the courage to believe in our dreams enough to see them through. This is a beautifully illustrated picture book that will appeal to all ages, with quirky characters and a positive, uplifting message.

Franz-Ferdinand is a walrus who becomes captivated by the graceful ballet of a group of flamingos who, for whatever reason, have chosen to practice their routines upon the ice in Greenland. Understandably, the flamingos are dismissive of Franz-Ferdinand as a dancer, but it only takes one to believe in him, and the walrus bull is soon recruiting friends to share in the joy of the dance.

This is a joyful and inspiring story that I feel will have very widespread appeal. I also appreciated the call to action for eliminating ocean plastic that is included at the end of the book. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and North South Books Inc. for an ARC.

This is my new go-to book for graduates! In a humorous story, the author captures the essence of how life really works: how one might be lying around thinking one has reached a place of maximum capacity in life, and then something new and unimaginable comes along and makes one wonder what more is possible. Franz-Ferdinand and the Dancing Walrus is an adorable story with several great messages of encouragement. The concept of a dancing walrus is a fun place to start, and the author does a great job both of playing up this unlikely scenario and of showing how it’s worth it to go after your dreams. A fun read overall. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Marcus Pfister’s Franz-Ferdinand The Dancing Walrus is a wonderful story about being able to achieve our dreams even if others believe we can’t do them. This book is also a reminder also about taking care of our environment. Cute story, creatively told with lovely illustrations. I highly recommend!

Loved this story and illustrations. It’s great to show children that you can do (almost) anything you put your mind to. Also, love the message at the end about garbage in the ocean.

A good storybook on walruses and flamingos.

There's also a part which discusses on the indiscriminate pollution of water bodies and how it affects the lives thriving there.

I love the dance theme and how this part teaches about teamwork and communication.

Love the art.

However, I feel the words and the lines should be a little bigger and arranged in such a way that it's easy to read out loud or read along with the audience age group.

Thank you Authors and the publisher for the advance reading copy.

Franz-Ferdinand is a 42-year-old walrus with a dream to become a ballet dancer with Madame Flameco's famous ballet school of dancing flamingos. Despite his size, he has become very skilled from watching the school and then practicing everyday in secret. One day he decides to approach them to join the ballet school. Madame Flameco allows him to join after one lesson and a audition. She overlooks the fact that Franz-Ferdinand is not a flamingo and is not shaped like a flamingo. However, not everyone is happy to see a dancing walrus. Will Franz-Ferdinand win them over in the end? Find out in Franz-Ferdinand the Dancing Walrus by Marcus Pfister.

The book is comical as well as inspiring. There were many lessons and morals taught in the book. I especially liked the part that Franz-Ferdinand was confident, even though his tutu was made from pieces of garbage while the rest of the class had costumes from Paris. It shows perseverance and overcoming obsticals while letting self confidence lead your way.

I would recommend this book for kids that have trouble fitting in or enjoy doing things not conventionally for them. This book would be enjoyable for boys and girls alike. This is an instant classic that will be in your family for generations to come!

A very cute story with beautiful illustrations. The message behind the story of how anyone can be anything despite not fitting certain stereotypes is empowering.
