This was another 5 star read for me by Ellie Alexander. She is truly one of the best people and writers I have ever read. I am so sad that this is going to be the last in the series. I feel like Ellie was forced to write out and finish out the series too fast. But she didn't let that stop her from writing another edge of my seat cozy!

I'm a big fan of the author's Sloan Krause mysteries, which have an emotional depth that is sometimes lacking in cozy mystery series.

Leavenworth, Washington has marketed itself as a Bavarian-style destination for tourists, with festivals throughout the year. It's spring and the popular Maifest is approaching, as Sloan and Garrett prepare to sell a lot of craft beers at their boutique brewery, Nitro, and to participate in the town parade and other festivities. Sloan is also part-owner of the much larger Der Keller brewery, along with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Mac, his brother, and his parents, who became surrogate parents to Sloan when she joined the family after years in the foster system.

A love story between Sloan and her business partner Garrett may be brewing, but that's not the focus of this fifth in the series. This is the one where Sloan finally finds out how she landed as a young child in Leavenworth and why her mother abandoned her. Unfortunately, there is a lot of potential danger involved, to Sloan and possibly her 16-year-old son, Alex, as a result of learning these secrets. There is also trouble at the nearby hotel, with guests' money and belongings going missing, a manager who acts inappropriately to his female staff, and one of the staff who is found murdered. Whether the hotel situation intersects with Sloan's is part of the mystery.

I enjoyed learning more about Sloan's background, following the intriguing plot, and experiencing more of the vividly portrayed town of Leavenworth and the (mostly) lovable characters who populate the town.

This author is new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the characters. Apparently this is the 5th book in the series. I am definitely looking forward to going back and reading the previous 4 books in the series, as well.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book!

Brilliant characters, terrific writing, fantastic mystery, and a series you always want to return to time and again. Easy recommendation to friends, family, and reading groups.

I think that Ellie Alexander is a great cozy mystery writer and I loved the story line of this one. Brewing beer and such are things not in my knowledge base which may have contributed to my not being able to get completely into the story. However I did tell a friend about it who is a local brewer's wife and she read it while at my house, in one day proclaiming it a perfect little cozy mystery.

i just love this series of books especially since the story is based in Leavenworth Washington which is one of my favorite places in Washington state.

Sloan Krause is back in the thick of things as she finally gets some answers to her past. She meets a strange woman who claims to be her aunt but Sloan has no memory of her. Things get really dark and eerie as Sloan tries to piece together what happened to her as a child.

With her employer Garrett Strong and his staff at the Brewery she dives into the mystery of the woman. Little is known about her and Sloan can't decide if she's crazy or lucid but when she kidnaps Sloan's son all bets are off.

I highly recommend this book series because it's funny, interesting, and always has a good plot twist.

I was given a free e-copy of this novel by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

In number 5 of her Sloan Krause series, our heroine is preparing for Maifest in Leavenworth, Washington. With her Nitro partner, Garrett, they are debuting a new craft brew, Lemon Kiss ale. Despite the overwhelming preparations, Sloan has an unexpected visitor named Marianne, who claims to be her aunt, arrive at her cottage in a state of hysterical alarm. At Marianne's hotel, in her room, there has been a murder, and Marianne is convinced that Sloan and her family are in immediate danger. Sloan must decide if she believes this complete stranger from her past before any one she loves gets hurt.

This is one of my favorite cozy mysteries. Sloan Krause is so down to earth, and common sense brilliant. She doesn't put herself in unnecessary danger, and if she suspects there might be a chance, she takes so many precautions. There is a steady stream of personal growth for Sloan from book one to book five.

I also really love the craft beer aspect of the novel. It is refreshing from some of the other cozy novels of bookstore owners on the water, or librarians, gardeners, etc. It is a new experience to read about a different profession. I also find it fascinating how craft beer is created. There is also the location with the different festivals displaying Bavaria that represent a whole different culture.

One thing I hope this novel puts an end to is the mystery of Sloan's past. It's a nice side issue but really has no bearing on the immediate murders or the plot. Though this novel allows it to flow smoothly throughout the novel with the murder, it really has become quite overdramatized. The murder itself was very good and the suspects just kept lining up. A good mystery, in my opinion, gives the reader various suspects, motives, and possibilities, and this one was not slacking.

Overall I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars.

As we all know, cozy mystery books have one thing in common, a suspicious death and an amateur sleuth, always ready to get involved.
In my opinion, a good book contains a cast of colorful characters, a believable but quaint hometown setting, and a protagonist that everyone loves.
Ellie Alexander has created a series that combines all of those things, and Sloan Krause is the star of the show. She’s real, matter of fact, and down to earth, trying to rebuild her life after an emotional breakup.
In this book, someone from Sloan’s past has found her, and Sloan isn’t sure what to believe or who to trust.
When her son becomes a target, Sloan refuses to hide and puts herself in the murderer’s line of fire.
The Cure for What Ales You is a gripping story that will answer some questions about Sloan’s past and will hopefully help guide her future.
I highly recommend this series.

This is book 5 and the beginning is full of the angst of the earlier books in the series. It makes for a really good soap opera, but the mystery plot seem a little weak to me. I don't feel that it can comfortably stand alone, but if you've read the earlier books I'm sure that it's wonderful. The characters are strong and well developed, but this one just doesn't suit me.
I requested and received a temporary digital ARC of this book from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What a great addition to the series! Great to check in on our favourite Bavarian tourist town and brewing family, the mysteries were suspenseful, and the conclusion so satisfying! I loved reading about everyone coming together and finally getting Sloan’s history!! I am sad though as the it almost read like that could be a satisfying conclusion to the series. But then again, there were some new beginnings too, so maybe the next book will be the start of new relationships?

This cozy was really well written! I absolutely fell in love with Sloan, the brewery aspect of the plot and the German themed town! An excellent mystery!

I love Sloan the brewer. I love her family, faults and all, and her community. I even love the beer stuff, though I dislike beer intensely! Every time a new book in this series comes my way, it rises to the top of my TBR pile. The writing is always good, and the plotting is always logical. But the whole story line with Marianne and all the top secret stuff is just too over the top. It takes this title from five stars down to four. I wish this overarching story about Sloan's family past and all the top-secret shenanigans would just wrap up. It's not that interesting. It's not the slightest bit convincing. And it interferes with the more compelling, immediate mystery every time.

A mystery ensues when a housekeeper at a local hotel is found murdered. In the meantime, Sloan, a microbrewer, has someone from her past show up telling her she is in danger. Sloan is very calm and patient, I suppose traits needed in her business. The danger increases and her community supports her instilling a sense of security within themselves. I love that the setting is a German community and during a festival. The characters are realistic and intriguing.

In this book, we have the next installment in the cozy mystery series featuring craft brewer Sloan Krause. In this book, we have a housekeeper at the center of the mystery. But we soon find out that everything may—or may not!—be linked to Sloan’s past (which she really know nothing about. This book really showed development in Sloan as a person. She was more vulnerable and open in this book, and because of that, the other characters were more in the spotlight also. I really enjoyed this one. Ellie Alexander really has a way of developing the characters, and also with really showcasing the setting (and the food and drink!!). Thanks to St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books and net galley for the advanced copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

Book 5 in the Sloan Krause Mysteries Series. I have really enjoyed this series and this was a really good one. A local woman is murdered at a hotel. The lady on suspicion of killing her has many secrets. She is Sloans aunt. This one has so many twist and turns. Murder, kidnapping, beer and festival. It was great that in all the chaos Sloan learns more of her childhood.

Ellie Alexander did it again for me! I have not read any of the books in the Sloan Kraus series but I loved it! It was a one-day read for me and again, as with her Torte series, I was actually shocked about the storyline and what ended up happening in the end!

I loved the characters, the descriptive way she writes is spectacular!

I enjoyed this book. It's a little slow at first than picks up speed. It sheds a lot of light on Sloan's life. I like the characters and the ending is nice. #TheCureforWhatAlesYou #NetGalley

Thank you so much to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press & Minotaur Books for my copy of The Cure for What Ales You by Ellie Alexander in exchange for an honest review. It publishes October 5, 2021.
I was so excited to get started on this fifth installment in the Sloan Krause series, and it was totally worth it! The way that Alexander writes these books is how I wish all cozy mystery series were written. There's the murder and the whodunit, but the rest of the characters are developed, and have their own struggles and growth that continue from book to book, but actually have resolutions made, decisions made, movement in the overall story.
I really enjoyed this one and Sloan's life, how things were progressing, and that it had it's own mystery beyond just the murder itself.
I highly recommend this series!
