Delving Deep by Karen Nappa is the first book in the Quinn Quartet. It is a romance, of sorts, a mystery, which arcs through several of the books. It has clear warning at he beginning that it includes the BDSM lifestyle (Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & Submission and Sadomasochism). It may be disturbing for some, but is merely the tip of the iceberg. There is also a good romance and the aforementioned mystery. Ross Quinn is 50 years old, which makes this story a little different right at the outset. He is a farmer and a county commissioner and spends some time on a listserv for people choosing the BSDM lifestyle. His female counterpart on the listserv turns out to be perfect for him and after they meet and iron out some basics of their relationship, they fall in love. Delilah is everything his sister Maddie, had hope for. He is the diametric opposite. He is a politician. She is a reporter. He is conservative. She is liberal. He is white. She is black. Which makes for a funny scene when she meets his family as it turns out his stepmother is black, and so his sister is, as well. Well-written scene.

Not really into this kind of lifestyle but this is a pretty decent book. The overarching plot is a good one, leading to danger for Delilah and probably some trouble for Ross. Interestingly, he is an honest politician, although a low-level one. This is a decently written book and the author gives fair warning. I enjoyed it and look forward to the others in the series.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Delving Deep by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #netgalley #delvingdeep

Delving Deep is the first book in Karen Nappa’s Quinn Quartet series, but it is important to know that there’s a prequel story called Healing Jacob 's Heart available on Amazon and it should definitely be read first as a segue into Delving Deep. Also be mindful that this is an ongoing storyline where each where book will finish on a cliff-hanger, so if this is a definite hard limit for you, then maybe look elsewhere for your reading enjoyment. All that said, I’m not a fan of what I deem to be a rolling series, where each book leaves you hanging, but I found myself riveted to the family dynamics which make up a large quota of the world building within this series. There is also a BDSM component to this story that is well-written and flows perfectly into the storyline of Ross and Delilah’s romance, as Ross is not only a sexual Dominant, but a caring, genuine and heartfelt hero. The cover is not what I’d expect from this type of story, so don’t be deterred due to its “sweet” implications, as this story has plenty of spice and depth as well as deep emotions. I’m looking forward to reading more about the Quinns and anxiously await the next in the series.
