DNF 40%

I've had this book a long time and I tried very hard to get into it (many times) but it's just not working for me, unfortunately.

I think the author had some good ideas. I was intrigued by the concept of the auras, or "lit" and the magic system.

It was going okay until I reached Cold. I just think that the book had too many big ideas and was trying to do too much. There was also a lot of "telling" instead of showing and it was difficult to remain engaged.

This was an enjoyable outing. It was a unique concept, well delivered and well written. There were a lot of characters but they were introduced in such a way that it was easy to keep track of who was who, and I especially liked the way more and more of their personalities were revealed as the story unfolded. A bit like the story itself, which kept adding new dimensions to an already larger than life story. It looks as though there will be more stories set in this world and I look forward to reading them.

I like this author's imagination, which shows a good amount of creativity. I stayed mostly engaged, and enjoyed the twists when they came along, as well as the humor. This is not a quick read at 500 pages, but there's a lot to like here.
