To Write a Wrong was everything I hoped for Daphne's story. Daphne is a writer in an age where women can't write under their names and that creates the need for her to use a pseudonym. She's also an inquiry agent with the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency. Put the two together and give her a client who is her biggest competition in the mystery world, and you have the recipe for a book that was so fun to read. It pokes fun at writers, but never devolves to a treatise on how terrible publishing is. Instead it creates a plot that twists and turns while having a good time and weaving a tale of a sweet romance. Loved it!

This book was a delight! For avid readers, reading about two people who love words and writing is a treat. It was fun hearing Herman and Daphne talk about characters and word choices. It was sweet when Daphne came to realize what makes a true hero. There’s even a time when a gathering of mystery writers are trying to use the skills their fictional characters have to recognize clues in real life.

Daphne is an awesome woman. She feels she lacks courage but she’s always doing the unexpected and finding her way into adventures. She uses her mystery writer mind to come up with suspects and possible motives. It was fun watching her at work.

Herman is great as well. He is not threatened by Daphne and her mind but delights in it. He enjoys her unpredictability. While claiming he’s not like a hero in his books, he instinctively protects those around him even if it puts himself at risk.

Turano is one of my favorite authors and with books like this it’s easy to see why. The writing style is impeccable and witty. The story flows. The characters feel authentic. There’s a good mystery to be solved with plenty of suspects and motives. It’s a great read. I’d highly recommend it.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is a funny novel. There were numerous moments where the characters were placed in a funny moment. There is a scene with an axe that made me giggle. Turano creates vivid, vibrant characters who jump off the page. None of her characters fit the typical norm for woman of this era, which I love. The characters are smart, funny, and charming. I love the heroine, Daphne, this time around. She was smart and a writer. I love how she works at the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency and writes mystery novels at the same time. Herman is a loving and sweet hero who finds the odd ball Daphne appealing and is drawn to her. Their romance story was sweet and kind. Overall, To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is a delightful story that allows my imagination to flourish, and I really love the mystery element this time around. Highly recommend for readers of Turano’s other novels and historical romantic comedies.

I received a complimentary copy of To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano from Bethany House Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

'Murderers, I'm sure you'll agree, are very proficient with lying.'

Oh goodness, do I ever love a Jen Turano novel! Every time one is published, I can't wait to read it. You know why? Because that means I'm about to have a grand experience. I don't know how she does it. Really I don't. Her mind must be an amazing thing. Her wit is incredibly wonderful and this time I was laughing by the second page. There are many times during the reading of her books that I just burst into loud laughter and laugh more than a second or two. My husband just stares at me, while I say, 'I'm reading another Jen Turano book.'

Back we go to the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency to have Miss Daphne Beekman's story. Daphne is a writer, don't you know, albeit one who must adopt a male nom de plume. She solves crimes in the evenings, too. Well, she meets up with another mystery writer in this story, a very famous one like herself, Mr. Herman Henderson. He wants to hire the agency because it would seem someone is trying to kill him. And we're off! What a wonderful, rip-roaring time to be had here. I always find myself, during the reading of on of Turano's books, rereading passages over and over just for the simple pleasure of laughing my head off. I adore her work!

My thanks to Bethany House Publishers for a copy of this book via the Net Galley platform. I was not required to leave a positive review. The opinion here is entirely my own.

This book made my week. It's the perfect thing to read when you just want to relax. It's historical fiction with a wicked sense of humour thrown in. Jen Turano is awesome and I have loved anything she's ever written - including the contemporary book "Finding Margo"!

Herman and Daphne were great characters - not perfect like real life but with their own set of problems. One of the themes is that you are stronger than you think and it's a pleasure watching the heroine learn that for herself.

This is a book in a series, and while it's great to read to the series - it could be a standalone. I'm hugely impatient for the next book already - Yes I loved it that much. I got this in exchange for a free review. I would definitely buy it - In fact, I've put my money where my mouth is and brought it for my library.

We've watched a lot of Murdoch Mysteries lately, so this book seemed a natural progression! The author does a great job of including twists and turns throughout, even injecting a little bit of snarkiness at times, while still keeping it clean. The ending was a bit of a surprise, which isn't always the case when reading a mystery. It was fun to see the story within the story, too. Apparently this is part of a series, but I never would have known. It works well as a stand-alone, and any pertinent information that you need from other previous books is supplied.

First I loved the play on the title of this read, it really resonates with the story. We are back with the Beeker Street Inquiry Agency, and this story forcus is on Daphne Beekman, and this book can be read alone, even though it is the second book in this great series!

As usual this author has me laughing out loud, along with page-turning. We are given some very real danger, along with some sweet romance! From readers to writers, from rapiers to pistols, from hair pins to keys, we are on a journey to find who wants Herman gone, and why?

You certainly won't be bored with this one, and be sure to read the epilogue!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

***OH MY GRACIOUS! SO, SO GOOD!! ***
I think every time a chapter ended I couldn't believe how good the ending was! Why can't everyone write so well? ;)

Tea Moment: Taking a sip of tea that had long gone cold, she grimaced and set aside the cup before she flexed her fingers. Placing them over the keys of her Remington typewriter, affectionately named Almira...fervently hoped that something of worth would spring to mind to write."

Quotable: "Herman's brows drew together. "I'm a fiction writer, Miss Beekman. And even though I write murder mysteries, those murders, as well as the heroes who vanquish the villains in the end, are merely a figment of my imagination. I'm far too responsible to go traipsing off to investigate an unknown noise because that could have gotten me murdered in my own house, or worse, seen the members of my staff put in harm's way."”

"Whatever else he'd been about to say got stuck on the tip of his tongue when a large painting hanging over one of the buffet tables suddenly swung open. A second after that, Daphne plunged through the large opening... tumbled head over heels...landing right on top of the buffet table..."

"...at times she longed to share her love of the written word with someone who loved words as well, someone who wouldn't mock her for choosing a profession that wasn't considered acceptable for women..."

I love how in the heat of a crucial moment, the author takes time to add nuance and zingers! I laughed so many times! ;) "Cooper rolled his eyes before he muttered something about Daphne being obstinate, although he didn't mention anything about Ann being obstinate, then strode forward and out of the trees."

Happy to see the author used the correct wording of "champing at the bit" instead of chomping. Well done!

Faith moment: …God had never ignored her prayers for courage and that He'd continued to answer them to this day.

Daphne's mind is constantly in motion, solving problems and puzzling things out. Sometimes it spills out from her mouth and it's fun to hear and see how others perceive her. Herman gets caught up in her process and as they are both writers, enjoys it immensely. They fit so well together and are a delight to read about, as is the entire mystery with its many twists.

I always have trouble summarizing Jen's books because there is just SO MUCH goodness to share! Buy it, read it, enjoy! :)

I was gifted a book from the author, in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own without compensation or further expectation.
