We Live drew me in with its promise of Earth in trouble and children being saved. As I read, I couldn't help but let it pull me into this strange world full of disaster and hope. The tension was there and building steadily, as with many graphic novels, and it's done very well. I wanted to know if Tala and Hototo would reach the Beacon and if they did, what would happen next.

This graphic novel is perfect for fans of dystopian and post-apocalyptic genres. Its art style fits the tone and atmosphere of the story while the content has just the right levels of terror and hope. I rated it as four stars and I can't wait to see what the next chapters bring about this exciting story.

This book is a whole experience - between the songs peppering the album, that you are linked to through a QRcode to create a musical atmosphere and the post-apocalyptic world it is quite something.
Nature is reclaiming the world in a violent way, the end is coming, but luckily 5000 children will be taken to safety by an alien race... or so we are told.
While it could have been good, I found the intro and info-dumping a little heavy at the start, making for a slow read. There is a lot of world building, this was obviously the baby of the artists, but I found the characterisation less gripping sadly.
It is very gory, lots of action not always necessary but making it feel like stuff is happening in the plot. The ending did not satisfy me at all. I think I expected something more, much more.

In 2084, humanity is nearing extinction. The Earth is dying. An alien ship offers salvation. 5000 bracelets are dropped to Earth. Each is to be used by Earth’s children. Each child may bring one companion. Once the children wearing the bracelets and their partners reach nine extraction points, they will be taken to another planet to restart humanity. The aliens will leave in five days. We Live! Don’t miss the takeoff.

What can you say about such beautiful fully saturated artwork? Bravo! I also adored the idea of including QR codes to the suggested music. After all, science fiction movies always have a soundtrack. The problem is the words. They are confusing.

“You who brings the warmth of the golden glows and then shut them off. Day. Night. Kill. Live. Kill. You who plays with the roaring of the wind and tides. Listen to my prayer. May the invisible kingdom of human time embrace you one day. May its endpoints possess you as they die… They end, irretrievably.”

I liked the twist at the end of We Live. I will read the next book in the series. But I can’t give this volume more than 3 stars.

So, I am not entirely sure what to think of this one. At times quite good, but at other times I just found things going wrong a bit too much and it seemed over the top/distracting. I mean, each time they would reach a point, get closer to the beacon in time, and then BOOM things explode, people get murdered, or other things. I get that this is a world full of pain/hurt/death, but it was just too much and felt unnatural, just a way to get the story more exciting.
I liked the idea of the bracelets, though we see that not everyone is happy with the chosen children. I hadn't expected THAT to happen to the kids with the bracelets. I had some ideas, but never expected the story to take a route to that. It was quite an interesting one.
There was a lot of gore, to the point I just wanted to stop reading. I am just not that into gore these days, it makes my stomach flop and swirl. Not something I want.
I did love the relationship between sister and brother, that was really sweet.
The ending had me going YAS because of who we saw there.

Nature has turned against humanity. We face massive electro-storms, implacable zombie-esque plagues and mutated killer beasts. And also our own tendency to self-destruction, of course.

And then a message comes from the stars: the dangers the Earth is unleashing will inevitably destroy us, but a cadre of children will be rescued to continue our species amid the stars. 5000 high-tech bracelets have been sent to Earth. Each is to be given to a child who will be rescued: but only if they make it to the Beacon in time. Given the dangers that now roam the world, of course, that's not going to be an easy journey ...

I think this series is at its best when it focuses on the relationships between its characters. There are plenty of well-executed moments of small-scale personal heroism (not always successful). On the flip side, it's sometimes a little glib with its actual plot, and I'm not wholly sold on the final revelation of where this is all going.

I would have LOVED to read this but unfortunately I could not get the file to open. I read the first issue of the comic and really enjoyed it, so I was hoping it would continue with the story build.

This is the story of chosen children who are meant to survive the extinction of man.
I really liked the detail that was put into the art. Without such detail we would not have truly understood the dangers of the world the kids are trying to navigate. I think what made this story even better was the depiction of gray morality. The people are fighting to survive and with that comes tough choices that impact those around you.
The story was tactful in how they portrayed the depth of mankind's greed during a time of extinction. The writer did not shy away from the ugly side of man that becomes more prominent in times of crises but he also shows you the strength and resilience, all from the eyes of a child.
This a character driven story first and foremost and each of the characters this story follows draws you in from the first meeting.
I absolutely loved Tala and the compassion she has for her brother as well as the bravery she portrays whenever something goes wrong. She is the ultimate big sister.
Hotoro is brave and strong in his own way that becomes more prominent as the story goes on. He is the perfect hero.

This was amazing. I'm glad to see it's only the first volume, and hopefully it'll be successful so that there will be more. The art is super gorgeous, and the story was thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. The character designs for our three little main characters were great, and I LOVED the creature designs as well. Also the ending was completely unexpected to me

3.5 Stars

This book was amazing for me when it comes to artwork, the illustrations were of high quality. Unfortunately, The story was too much for my sensible heart, it was disturbing and caused the ruin of my good mood today. It was a horrible depiction of the human nature at its most low level. Kids suffer mainly in this book which I didn't like and didn't want to have those images in my head.
It is a dark horror sci-fi story about a post-apocalyptic earth where humanity is witnessing its own extinction but there is always hope and this time help comes from the stars, galaxy,...euh whatever. 5000 rescue bracelets are sent to 5000 kids (a message that children are the hope of our future) and of course there is a countdown to make things more chaotic. We follow the misadventure of a little boy "Hototo" who wants to become a superhero and his big sister "Tala" who will do anything to protect her innocent brother from the harsh truth of this world.

3 stars - I liked it

The year is 2084 and the world is wracked by crawling monsters and humans are becoming extinct. Five thousand children will be rescued by someone in deep space, the only thing is that they have to make it to the pickup points alive.

This was an interesting take on a post-apocalypse world. Earth has changed so much and humanity is dying quickly. The only hope left is for the children with special armbands. Hototo is one of the lucky children and his teenage sister Tala is helping escort him to the extraction point. They have a lot of encounters with monsters, extreme fanatics, and crazy humans trying to steal the armbands. The story was surprisingly gory and deadly but it worked well in a society that is dying.

I really loved the artwork in this comic. The colors really popped and the creatures were fascinating and gross. I found Tala and Hototo’s story to be heartbreaking and hopeful. I was surprised by the ending because I wasn’t expecting this to be a superhero esque story but I did enjoy it. I am looking forward to reading the next comic.

Trigger Warnings:
- Graphic death, including violent children death
- Gore
- Suicide, on page

An extremely dark and gripping post-apocalyptic world that shows the true nature of humankind. This story has beautiful artwork but it's gruesome.

Thank you, NetGalley, Diamond Book Distributors, Inaki Miranda, and Roy Miranda for the arc.

The world has faced terrible acts of nature. Animals have evolved to be even more deadly. Earth and humans are dying. There is hope: 5,000 bracelets have been sent to Earth to save 5,000 children. Tala's only goal is to get her little brother Hototo, a bracelet holder, to the Extraction Beacon before time runs out. They gain friends, lose people, and get kidnapped along the way. Will they make it in time and are the bracelets the salvation the children are hoping for?
