This one didn’t grab me like the first book did. I think it was the pirate thing. That has never been my favorite genre. I didn’t finish this book, I got bored.

I enjoyed the first book in this series but found something to be lacking since I wasn't fully sucked in. Same thing with this sequel. I know pirates are really hot right now, but I personally don't find them that interesting. The mer-folk were cool, the story development at the end was cool, and the more obvious LGBTQ representation was cool. However, making a main character grieve their dead father for half the book and then revealing that MAYBE there's a chance he's not dead was a little too big of an emotional 180 for me.
