I have just started planning my fridge the same way! I love this book for the organizational skills Kristen Hong has taught me! She's much better at it for dietary reasons, but I just want to cut down on wasted food and, now, being retired, I have time to indulge! This is a great book for learning about food storage, labor saving ideas, how to save on energy, too!

Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for this free eARC.
I really loved the ideas for fridge organization, but an added plus are the recipes that can really help with both your fridge organization and home budget.
I can't wait to try it out and I honestly recommend this book.

My fridge does not look like the cover photo, and probably never will. But I admit to some fridge envy, and I learned enough from this book to make me happy I took the time to read it.

Hubs and I are omnivores and have no intention of changing. At the same time, we enjoy trying different kinds of foods and we don't eat meat seven days a week. The author confines her diet to plant-based foods, but manages to live comfortably with a husband and children who are meat lovers. She accomplishes this by being super-organized and creative.

She is not preachy! Her mission is not to convert the reader to a nutritarian diet, but to convert everyone's refrigerator to an appliance that helps keep its owners healthy. Based on the level of obesity in the U. S., this is a worthy goal, and the book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in running a healthy kitchen.

There is more information than I wanted to know about refrigerators and how they work, but I admit it makes sense to know how the different models compare if you're serious about maximizing your food's shelf life.

I would have bumped this up to 5 stars if more of the recipes used fewer specialty ingredients. In that sense, it is more of a nutritarian cookbook than an all-purpose, let's eat healthy cookbook. Anyone with a nut allergy would have to rule out many of the recipes. For my purposes, this is a book I'd like to take out of the library, but I don't think it would be worth a permanent spot on my bookshelf.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kristen Hong, and Mariner Books for an ARC of this book.

“Fridge Love” is part manual and part food preservation book. As food prices rise we are taking greater care to use what is in our fridge and preserve the rest. The author explains how your fridge works best and how to organize it to maximize energy efficiency. If you are trying to eat healthy and not let the lettuce and celery wilt this is the book for you. While I do not follow a vegan diet (I raise my own meat / eggs along with having 2 huge gardens) anyone who has a fridge and likes fresh food could benefit from this book.

The average American family wastes nearly $2800.00 dollars each year throwing out food that has gone bad. That's serious dollars and cents being wasted. Would a better system of refrigerator management help save money? Kristin Hong, in her book Fridge Love makes a compelling argument for just that.

This beautifully photographed book is a serious dive into the art of storage. Hong makes her case for organization with colorful photographs and compelling reasons as to why your food will last longer using her system. Glass vs plastic storage containers, to pre-wash and how to, prepping meals or whole storage, you'll find it all here.

You're provided with pages of all common vegetables and fruits, and how to best store them for maximum longevity. It's seriously a scientific look at our food and it's handling.

Hong also follows a Nutritarian diet consisting of whole fruits, vegetables, and grains. She includes quite a few recipes and their storage requirements.

My only criticism is many people don't follow the same diet that Ms Hong does, and there is not any information on the storage of animal products that are the staple of many American diets. There are specific storage and refrigerator placement requirements for meat and eggs so as not to contaminate other foods. This is not addressed.
That said, the book is a wealth of information, regardless.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book

Wow! I honestly thought this was going to be a basic book that just advised you to buy more Tupperware containers and have the same meal every night. This is a terrific guide to organizing your fridge to bring more order to your life. It also touches on how to be more healthy. I did find some of the recipes disappointing only because I am not vegan and while I'm not against trying vegan recipes I just don't like the idea of limiting what I can cook. Honestly, this book isn't one to buy if your interested in recipes. While the recipes are well written and seem tasty this is more a guide for bringing order to your life. I've recently gotten into organizing my kitchen not for space saving but to instead have it exhibit the spirit of mise en place. There are several helpful tips for optimizing your refrigerator while giving several different options depending on the type of fridge and your lifestyle. Interestingly, this book also provided a short history on refrigerators and on their inner workings, which is helpful for understanding where and why to place your food. This book is a helpful guide for the kitchen.

I received this book for free through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. This review will posted to Goodreads upon the publication date.

A very interesting read! Very focused, with a clear goal, ie better understanding how a refrigerator works, and ways to make it more efficient. The author clearly understands this topic and has very detailed recommendations, pictures to go along, and this book meets its intent. Read this if you're interested in ways of being now efficient and less wasteful in the kitchen!

Love this!!!

For anyone who loves prepping, for anyone who loves fresh food, for anyone who hates food waste, for anyone who likes making store-bought things themselves, for anyone who likes cooking, and also for anyone who is interested in the science behind food shelf-life (or fridge-life) - this is it.
I equally like the introduction into the theory of how to organise a fridge (side note though, while the author says every fridge works, I'd like to argue the 20-year-old hand me down from China with Chinese buttons I am working with won't tell me the airflow and which part is the coldest or best to store certain items - I am just glad it works) as I do the recipes themselves.
You don't have to use them to build the finished meals provided, you can also just learn new recipes and build something out of the individual building blocks (or ingredients) yourself, but I highly recommend you try some of them. The Quinoa ones are definitely a favourite of mine.

There are only a couple of food items that I have difficulty storing for freshness. The book was enlightening, but I have discovered it is easier for me to just buy smaller quantities -- only what I can consume within a week.

This is a very very long book. For the topic, it's a bit too long. However, with that being said, Kristen provides very detailed information regarding how to properly store food in the fridge, has great photos and even has recipes in the book.

Thank you to Net Galley, Kristen Hong, and Mariner Books for the advance digital copy of Fridge Love. This book has gorgeous pictures. Fridge porn! But it is a deeeeeep dive into the history, mechanics, dimensions, and inner workings of a refrigerator. And all food that goes inside it - what temperature to store it, how to pick the best meat/produce/etc., and the chemical reactions behind decomposition. It was way too esoteric and granular for me. Reads like a manual. It is so detailed that I lost all interest very quickly. #FridgeLove #NetGalley

I absolutely loved the scientific explanation of how different foods interact in the refrigerator. I learned how fruits and vegetables ripened at different rates based on their placement in the refrigerator. The explanations were clear and concise.
The photography was inspirational. Every person may not have the funds to purchase all of the same storage containers but the book shows ways to economically organize your refrigerator contents.
I would highly recommend this book to someone who has a love for organizing or someone who is just starting out in life.

This book felt like a cross between being shamed for wanting a different refrigerator and a refrigerator model book. It had some helpful pieces in it that talked about how to organize a fridge in different ways you can utilize your fridge. I honestly could care less in an organizational book to read about how a refrigerator works or to feel shame for not wanting to keep a small fridge and preferring something bigger.
I did find a lot of decent organizational tips and I plan on trying some of them out. The pictures were amazing I loved having a visual of how she set up different refrigerators in different types of fridge organizations. It's a very technical book.

Je le conseil +++

This book was just meh for me. I love a good organizing guide, even if it’s mostly stuff I’ve heard before, but this one was just really unoriginal overall.

A very practical book about how to best keep your food in your fridge fresh. The pictures are eye-catching. It is almost part technical manual, part recipe book, and part instagram.

This might be a fun gift book for a young couple or young person starting out on his/her own. As a middle aged woman, I didn't find much in there I didn't already know, but it was a very pretty book. I don't think I would use many of the recipes, but some people might like them.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
