Sarah Larsen wants to make a life with her finance, Jonathan. However, she has mounds of medical debt leftover from caring for her Aunt Clara, who died several years back. Her current waitress job isn't cutting it. So when a curious nanny position pops up demanding discretion, Sarah jumps at the opportunity to work for a wealthy family on the Upper West Side. How hard can a nanny job really be with no experience? For Sarah, it just may be life or death.

Nanny Needed by Georgina Cross is one of those perfect domestic thrillers, a wink at the readers, letting us in on the horrifying secret early so we can squirm in our seats, eagerly anticipating every move the characters must shuffle through in this unnerving story. This book delivers at every corner, where the characters can't disrupt the precarious situation they face or they just may awaken an even worse monster.

This book was very interesting. It grabbed my attention from the beginning. I kept going back and forth - trying to come to terms with why this family was the way they were. It was a very unique storyline with well thought out characters.

From the get-go I was drawn in to the story, wondering about the unique circumstances that brought Sarah into the wealthy home of the Bird family, The mysteries mount quickly; why was Sarah hired as a nanny with admittedly no prior experience, when will she meet the child, why is the cook so standoffish, what is going on with the adult son in the family? As the story unravels in the psychological thriller, you will find yourself second guessing your own theories.

Whew! A suspenseful thriller about a nanny? You think it’s been done but let me assure you, this one surprised me AND finally got me out of my thriller slump. For sometime now it had been hard for me to focus on thrillers but now I’m back on my grind!!

What I liked:
•short and suspenseful chapters
•new take on the nanny trope
•creeeepy characters!

Not gonna give away too much because I think it’s best to go into this one blind! I will mention that some of the plot was a bit unbelievable but I still really enjoyed reading this one.

First, a big thank you to the publishers at Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for this e-ARC of Nanny Needed!

Nanny Needed takes place in beautiful New York City. Sarah, an implant from Virginia Beach, lives in a small apartment with her fiancé Jonathan. The two work at a restaurant called Hearth, but after Sarah’s aunt died, she inherited all of her medical debt. While struggling to make ends meet and avoiding calls from debt collectors, Sarah stumbles across an ad for a nanny in the Upper West end of New York. The only drawback? The ad explicitly states discretion is a must.

After a short interview with Collette Bird, the mother of 3 year old Patty, Sarah is immediately hired and starts her new position making $1200 cash a week. But things aren’t what they seem at the Bird residence, and because Sarah signed an NDA, she must stay with the Birds for at least 3 months. Or else.

I really loved this story. While it’s a semi long book, it moved so quickly! It had my full attention from the very first chapter, which is something I always hope for in a new book. While I did guess the surprise twist, there were several other parts of the story that had me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure what exactly might be unfolding, but I enjoyed every bit of the journey! I highly recommend Nanny Needed if you’re looking for a fantastic psychological thriller!

I enjoyed this book mostly because of how different the story went from what I was expecting. The author did a great job in regard to the book description at describing the premise of the book, without giving away the story. There is a twist that I don't often read about it and it kept my interest throughout the length of the book. The writing was well done, the characters were developed and the story was consistent. The only part of this book that I didn't love was how some of the character's reactions seemed a little odd towards the end but that might also just be because my reactions would have been different personally. Lastly, the ending felt a little abrupt but it also wasn't a cliche which I thought was nice. Overall I enjoyed this book and would read this author again!

At first, I didn't really like this book. The writing was a bit simplistic and I kept thinking that Sarah was making wrong choice after wrong choice. But there was enough suspense to keep me curious and reading. In the end, I really enjoyed this. It was an interesting premise and I liked the way things were resolved at the end. This is not a literary triumph, but it's an enjoyable book and the story is something that will stick with me.

I could not put this book down. The story sucks you in and at the end steals the breath you didn’t know you were holding. It’s about the deadly misperceptions we mistake for reality. All of the characters are so compelling even the unlikeable ones. I will be recommending this book for years to come. I’d give it more stars if I could!

It has many benefits and pays extremely well. The family expresses that discretion is an absolute must. She is hired by the family, The Birds. The job is great! Well....at first.

Imagine getting hired to be a nanny for a 4 year old little girl whose family lives in a gorgeous penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side in NYC , paying an unbelievable salary with numerous perks. Sound too good to be true?
Sarah Larsen applies for this job after seeing a help wanted flyer posted in the lobby of her apartment building. Sarah and her boyfriend are living paycheck to paycheck, broke and drowning in debt so while this job seems to be too good to be true it can offer Sarah a way out of debt as well as financial stability. Sarah accepts the position, mainly because of the money, but also because she feel a connection with the little girl’s mother, Collette Bird. Sarah quickly discovers that there is more than meets the eye with the entire Bird Family and soon begins to regret her decision.
I found this book to be quite a page turner and while the actual storyline is somewhat unbelievable and unrealistic, it still is an enjoyable read with quite a few plot twists thrown in.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free electronic ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a spectacular breath of suspenseful fresh air! I was captivated from the first chapter and I truly couldn't stop reading until I got to the shattering, epic ending. While the story had dazzling twists and turns, it wasn't so crazy that I doubted the premise, despite the haunting plot. There were more than a few pages where I gasped out loud. I will absolutely be reading this book again and again!

This was QUITE the tale. am the author did a fantastic job of keeping the reader engaged through subtle twists and turns throughout each chapter. The story is filled with small subplots that enhance the main plot tenfold. The main story is a sad, but interesting tale. I felt fully immersed in it as I rapidly turned each page trying to get to the next chapter. The twist in the story is EXCELLENT I just say. I give this a full 5 stars!

So what did just happen? How simple "Nanny Wanted" ad turned into the mess that we see at the end of the story? How so mighty, so powerful family couldn't figure out what's going on when they were supposedly have ears and eyes everywhere? I don't want to give away any spoilers; but now knowing what happened to this family couple of decades ago, maybe it was the best that things happened this way

Sarah found an ad for nanny job for this wealthy family as she was fighting collectors, landlord, and hospitals. This family's only condition was nanny's discretion. Sarah decided to go for the interview. It wasn't a type of interview she expected, but she was mesmerized by the house, by mom and the wealth surrounded her. This could really be her and her fiancée's salvation. But things were not as they seemed.

While at times I thought maybe some of the twists and revelations were too much of a push, other times I thought that's genius. If there is any Turkish out there reading this review, I would definitely say this plot is very fitting to be one of those old Turkish movies with all the twists and turns and unfortunate events. I finished it in one sitting, so if you are looking for page turners this would be it.

When Sarah Larsen finds the notice for a nanny posting, she sees it as a start for her and her fiancée to save up for their new life. But when she starts her new nanny position, she finds it completely changes her life in a different way - far more different from anything she ever expected.

As a former nanny, this novel is all kinds of creepy. I mean, really creepy. And the ending is a whopper I didn't see coming - at all!!!

3.5 Stars

Usually, with thrillers, one can see what is coming but on slightly. With this book, you are practically smacked in the face with it. Even the 'twist' at the end. However, this book is written fairly well, so I was able to thrust that aside just for the pleasure of this popcorn read. The creepiness factor was a big plus, and this would make a fine Halloween read!

My biggest complaints are - Jonathan and his idiocy pursuing what he should not have been. The fact that the story ended so abruptly, the thought that Sarah and her beau needed money so badly that she didn't run the other direction, and, of course, she didn't fully read her 'contract'. The fact that Sarah was so wishy-washy didn't help things much.

Yet even with all my complaints, this book was a fun read -as long as you can suspend your disbelief enough.

When Sarah Larsen spots the ad in her apartment lobby saying “ Nanny needed “ she thinks it is a perfect opportunity to take on a second job and begin paying off the crushing debt left by the death of aunt who raised her. When she goes for her interview she is in awe of the opulent penthouse in the Upper West Side of New York and the salary is more than she had hoped, when asked to sign an NDA and contract she agrees after a slight hesitation. There is something strange about the Bird family though and it isn’t long until Sarah learns the secret they are hiding.
This is a domestic thriller that requires a bit of suspension of belief. I like the short chapters that made for moving the plot forward quickly and I did not see the turn the story took. This is reminiscent of a telenovela or “All My Children” plot line and is a light read perfect to get you out of a slump or for escapism. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for the advanced ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. This is scheduled to be released on 10/05/2021 but is available for pre-order now.

This gripping, suspenseful thriller will leave you shocked with an unexpected reveal! I found myself rushing through it to find out what is going on!!!!!????

A typical young couple are trying to make ends meet when a job posting comes available for Sarah Larsen. Her boyfriend Jonathan works with her waiting tables at a local restaurant in NYC while she chips away at her Aunt Clara's medical bills. Her parents died when she was too young to remember them, so she feels responsible for the only woman who cared for her before she died.

The nanny job consists of caring for a 4 year old girl Patty on a 12th floor penthouse apartment on the Upper West side of NYC. Meeting the mother, Sarah was in awe of her beauty and elegance. Mrs. Collett Bird greets her in a strange and uncanny way, but not thinking anymore about it and meeting with Mrs. Bird's stepson, Stephen, she signs a 3 month contract with a salary of $1200 a week and a stipulation "Discretion is the utmost importance".

A very odd twist and take on the Nanny story you do not want to miss. These are some of the wealthiest strangest people all working together with staff to spoil and lavish Patty. Who is more spoilt the mother or Patty? Strangely, they never leave the apartment, which quickly claustrophobia closes in, as well as the wickedly entitled before their secret is out.

She should have heeded the small fine print in the contract as a warning and the red herrings all along the way. There were so many chilling encounters in this book I couldn't stop until that final shocking wave.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for this incredible ARC in exchange for my honest review.
