I very much enjoyed this one. Love that it was bit dark and unexpected in places. I found it also uplifting and sexy. Love the main character and I like that the feelings were not hidden. The erotic part of this book was hot.

Big thanks to M.J Williamz, Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for the ARC in exchange for a review.

Ugh, I hate leaving books unfinished but I just couldn't do it. I put a valiant effort into reading the fist 25% but it was a struggle.
The characters fall flat, the storyline is repetitive and even the smutty parts weren't that enjoyable.

I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this, maybe it'll be your type of story. I also don't want to send any hate to the author. Women get hated on far too often, let alone a female author in a male dominated field, writing lesbian characters. You f*cking rock, regardless of what I think of the book.

This is a new author for me, I look forward to seeing what is next from her. This is a well written story about a vampire and a human and their relationship. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the beginning. The characters are connectable and heat up the pages. I enjoyed watching their growth and chemistry throughout the story. They made the story engaging and fast paced. This is a fun, steamy story that was entertaining. Alex is a creature of the night and Shantay is her driver and the only one who knows that she is a vampire. What will happen when they have a threesome and what will happen to their relationship? I really enjoyed their story and what they brought to the pages. I highly recommend this book.

I liked a lot of Desires After Dark. There are some wonderful characters, a fantastic butch/femme dynamic, neat little details of vampire mythology, and plenty of exquisite scenes of sapphic erotica, including more than a few erotic threesomes. MJ Williamz has an easy, comfortable narrative style that keeps the story flowing, and the dialogue had just enough flair to 'hear' the accents and get a taste for the culture of Alex and Shantay's lovers.

Speaking of taste, the erotica here is very oral, and I loved the unabashed appreciation for the taste of a woman, for the act of worshiping a woman, and for the unselfish focus on a lover's pleasure. Yes, there were plenty of fingers and toys involved, but where it felt most erotic, most personal, most intimate was in those moments of oral delight.

As I said, I liked a lot about this, but there are also some significant aspects that either gave me pause or just fell flat. Williamz tries hard to inject some dramatic tension into the story, placing various threats before Alex, but she never follows through on them. More than once, territorial vampire covens come into play, posing enough of a threat for Alex to be frightened, but nothing ever happens. There's a story thread about a lover who may also be a vampire hunter, which had a lot of potential, but beyond an aborted confrontation, nothing comes of it. And then there's the question of the sexy voodoo priestess who seems to sense something of Alex's truth, and that had potential too, but all it comes to is a throwaway scene of accusation near the end. Tension and conflict are good, they can help to give a story depth, but they have to have a purpose . . . they have to be leading somewhere . . . and there has to be a payoff in terms of resolution.

A fantastic piece of sapphic romance and lesbian erotica, Desires After Dark could have worked very well without trying to force the drama, and could have been superb if it had focused on just one threat, and then saw it through to climax. I liked the read, and I enjoyed the soft Domme/sub dynamic between Alex and Shantay, but the way the story floundered in the second half left me unfulfilled.

Brilliant, atmospheric, gothic, dark, sexy this book was great, I took the plunge to dive in and read something that’s not in my usual genre but I couldn’t put this book down it had me so hooked! Really hoping the story continues! The author did an amazing job!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It's very rare that I'll come across a book that leaves me feeling empty, or that I've wasted my time. There isn't anything harmful or offensive about this book, there just isn't anything to it.

The plot is basically non existent. For the first half of the book they go out to Bourbon Street, drink, dance, pick someone up, go home and have sex, and then do it all again in that same order the next night. This is the pattern for almost the entire first half of the book with the only change being Shantay becoming Alex's partner.

There was little to no character development to the point that I couldn't tell one character from the other. No growth or journey happened. No changes. Just the same stilted dialogue that lacked personality to the point I had to remind myself who was talking.

On top of that, the sex scenes weren't even written well. A lot of people screaming and having multiple orgasms all within one paragraph.

I find it strange that no one ever thought it was weird that Alex rushed home or rushed people away as the sun was coming up. There were no characters in this book, just objects to interact with.

Also, why was Alex a vampire? There is no point to this, no world building, no lore, heck she can just not look at a crucifix and be fine. What? But why? Her being a vampire adds nothing to the story other than beating us over the head with her accent "being strange" and literally everyone asking about it.

She can't eat, but she drinks? Why can she drink? Also how did no one in this die of alcohol poisoning? Why is this book? Where is the plot? Where is the point? Who is this for?

Whenever plot started to happen, it fizzled out:
Vampires that want her off their turf? Nothing.
Vampire hunters after her? Nothing.
Fortune teller premonitions? Nothing.

Also every "bad guy" she chose to feed off of was the same person essentially, and it read like a teenager fanfic.

I was so bored reading this that I actually started falling asleep multiple times but gosh darnit I promised a review so I finished it.

And to top it all off? We get COVID-19 at the end. Why? And then it jumps forward 100 years and rushes an explanation of a civil war happening in America? That would have been a way cooler story than this book and it was all wrapped up in 2 pages.

Then they have sex with their neighbors after drinking and dancing. It ended the way it started. 1 star.

Desires After Dark is the story of Alex Bogdan, a creature of the night. In addition to her strong desire for blood, she also has a very strong desire for women. Shantay is Alex's driver and the only human that knows Alex is a vampire. She drives Alex around town to find her women and to find her victims that provide the blood she needs to survive. One night the woman that Alex has picked up desires a threesome that includes Shantay. That night reveals that Alex and Shantay are attracted to each other. They then spend their nights exploring New Orleans before they head home to explore each other.

A very explicit female vampire novel, definitely a twist on the usual vimpire scene! Quite well written with a lovely romance running through it but definitly one for the adults!

I received a complimentary copy of Desires After Dark from NetGalley.  Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Don’t bother. No matter what genre a reader likes, this book is not for anyone. No depth of character, no reality in the “realistic fiction” events of the novel. It gets a 1 star review because I couldn’t give it a zero. I couldn’t even finish it. I got as far as 15%—which included all the hype from others in the previews. All lies, I can tell you. I will not be reading from this author again, as the best written parts were the false reviews that preceded the book!

Quick read. Not very deep on plot-wise, but lots of f/f sex (often with an extra f thrown in).

Vampire lead has enjoyed her eternity - including sleeping with a lot of women - but eventually falls for her every-loyal driver - one of the few people in her circle who knows who she is. They move to New Orleans but forces - including other vampires and vampire hunters - conspire to force them out of the city they love. When catastrophe strikes, will she be willing to save the woman she has come to love more than anyone in her existence?

Bite Me Baby!
Alex is a vampire and a horny one at that! She spends most nights prowling for prey, when she has to and pleasure when she can, which is often. Shantay is Alex’s driver and she knows and accepts her secret. She has a thing for her employer and one glorious night, they partake in a threesome. Its not long before the duo realize there is more than just sex between them and love is in the air. When Covid comes calling, Alex has some serious thinking to do.

I liked this book so very much! It was chock full of sexy goodness, paired, in threesomes and more somes. Some raw, hot and hard, other times soft, gentle and loving. Speaking of loving, I adored the mushy goodness between our two heroes. Shantay is always there for Alex, anticipating her needs and desires, fulfilling her like no one ever has before. Alex lights the fire in her heart as well and denies her nothing. Besides the amazing sexy bits and the sweet love story, there were parts of this story that contained danger and mysterious beings adding a thrill and a touch of worry to the tale. Not all is as it seems and sometimes its hard to know who to trust. One bad decision could lead to disaster and sometimes a change of scenery is just what the Dr ordered. This is a fun book that will keep you turning the pages quickly, and it is definitely NOT safe for work!!! There is a lot to love here and Im betting you will feel the same way!

It started rather fine, but as the book developes, it was less and less my cup of tea. Somehow, the chemistry thst was supposed to be there between the characters, didn't deliver for me.

Alex Bogdan is a creature of the night. Her hunger for blood is only outweighed by her desire for women, and she never misses an opportunity for pleasure.Shantay is Alex’s driver and the only human who knows that Alex is a vampire. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.MJ Williamz is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.

This vampire LesFic novel lacks personality, for lack of a better word. The main character Alex is one dimensional. She apparently has two goals in life – to feed off humans until they die (even though she says she hates killing them) and to have anonymous sex. Unlike other vampires, Alex can go for weeks without feeding, but then, without any explanation other than it might be hormonal (really?), she suddenly needs to feed nearly every day. If you can get beyond this beginning, you might enjoy the book.

Williamz needed a strong editor to assist her in developing her characters to give them some depth. Even her descriptions of her locations, Buenos Aires, Las Vegas, and New Orleans, lack personality, and a bit of research would have helped the author get beyond describing the latter two cities beyond their tourist attractions. There is nothing new or interesting about Alex the vampire.

If you are looking for a well-written LesFic book with strong main characters, look elsewhere. If all you’re interested is a book about a bland one-dimensional vampire, you’ll undoubtedly like this book. If all you’re interested in is the erotic parts of this book, you’ll like this book.

My thanks to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for an eARC.

So, at first this was pretty fun. We've got a story about a vampire and her human driver who knows her secret. There's some fun (if a bit repetitive). It captures the feel of New Orleans well and overall seemed to be going in positive directions.

Then, the author decided to address Covid in a rather tasteless way. Given that I, and I'm sure many other people, read to escape reality, this was a VERY unwelcome aspect that killed the entire thing for me. I'm sure this is a topic we're going to be seeing in a lot more "literary" novels in upcoming years, but I really would prefer escapism remain an escape. A warning about this topic would have been nice. Thanks.

A very disappointed and bitter 1/5

This book is about a vampire name Alex and Shantay her human driver, who is the only one who knows her secret. They relocated to New Orleans where Alex faces quite a few obstacles.
There are a lot of hot sex scene. It also touches on Covid virus. It was an ok read for me because it was so repetitive at times.

After reading the description of Desires After Dark I was immediately drawn to request this book. After reading it there were positives as well as areas that could be improved.

Positives - the description held a lot of potential; the sights, sounds, and character of New Orleans were on point; learning more about vampires was fascinating.

Areas that could be improved- making the execution of the story match the wonderful description. For the first half of the story it was pretty much wash, rinse, and repeat. Drinks/partying, hot tub, and sex. The writing was also pretty basic for an author with twenty books to her credit. I have not read any other offerings from this author.

The ending was unexpected and definitely an improvement over the first half of the book though.

Alex is a vampire and Shantay is her driver and the only human who knows what she is.

The story is about their relationship as they explore New Orleans and the relationship they form. This was ok read it had a lot of sex scenes that had me reaching for bottle of cold water.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Into vampires, New Orleans and voodoo? This is the book for you. Lots of sex scenes, drama and finding one's self. One sitting read. Mention of Covid19 and its effects.

I rate stories based on how much I enjoy them and I did not enjoy this story.

Now I hate giving bad reviews, like most things in life I've accepted that not everyone likes to same things and some books just are not for me. But I feel like this book goes only one way and its the bad one. Initially when seeing this book on NetGalley I completely ignored the author name, forgetting that I had already read another book by them and absolutely disliked it, the description of this book though pulled me in to read it.

Let me break this down in parts.

Characters- There was no personalization, the dialogue was all the same for all characters. They were at times just names to an action. There was basically no character development and the author did a poor job at making them their own distinct beings. Perhaps the erotica could've been shaved down to accommodate some more personality from Shantay.

Plot- I would like to say that what drew me into this book was the potential I saw with this author but after being hit with the realization of who that was I'm afraid it never stood a chance. Now it is clear to me that this book was hitting the erotica tag and I may not be the biggest fan of it but I like to think I can recognize good erotica and this book just did not do it for me. Alex has sex with about three woman in the first five chapters before she even mentions Shantay's name or talk to her and that absolutely boggles me. The plot was also absolutely boring, it was literally 99% erotica and the 1% what was lackluster profession of feelings on Alex and Shantay's side. Other than that everything else was especially corny.

I know this review may be a bit harsh, probably from my frustration of wasting my time with this book- but I have this thing where I must read the whole book even after regrettably reading half of it. This book did not do it for me and I really can't imagine it doing something for anyone else.

The grammar was fine but more descriptive writing could have saved this book in such a huge way.

Thank you NetGally and the Publishers for the ARC in exchanged for this honest review.
