Ginger Zee is such a good role model for others and I really enjoyed reading her book. Her honesty and vulnerability was really refreshing.

With her customary openness, Ginger gives us a peek into her life. In this book, she talks about her fight with depression, her suicide attempts, and handling life in general. This was an eye-opening look into the life of a woman who appears to have it all & is loving her life. It was great to learn that her life, like mine is not perfect and that we are all human!

I absolutely loved this memoir by Ginger Zee! I haven't read her first book yet, but most definitely will. Zee is so incredibly honest and open about mental health, trauma, and mistakes she has made. It read as so incredibly genuine. This memoir is so, so needed. Mental health is just as important and physical health and the stigma needs to continue to be broken down. Zee attended the same small university in Indiana that I did (a few years earlier) so there was also an added bonus of being familiar with some of the things she referenced. I can't wait to go back and read her first book.

I read Ginger's first book and enjoyed learning more about her. And I enjoyed this book too.

The book was really an eye opening on depression and other orders that Ginger deals with. Having dealt with some depression in the past, it's great to Ginger be so open and honest.

Reading about Ginger's abortion and how she felt was hard. But understandable. She is right, people treat people that has abortions like they did something wrong. And that's not right. Having an abortion is a person choice and for a lot of different reasons.

Thanks to Ginger for shring her story with us again.

As with her previous book, this is not a finish in one sitting story.
Brutally honest and at times emotionally painful.
As difficult as this book is to read I can't imagine the strength it took to write it.
I enjoy Ginger's television appearances and on-air personality. She always appears professional and happy, even bubbly. She has a beautiful family and is skilled with many talents.
At times she appears fearless.

Reading about how she has faced fears since a very young age, and how she has overcome traumas, some admittedly self caused, is inspirational and eye opening. I hope this book will prove to some young people, not just females, that what appears as the worst moment of your life is something you can take control of and use as a building block.
Having read her previous book and still admiring her very much, I requested this book via Netgalley to read and review These opinions are all my own.

I love, love, loved this book. Ginger feels authentic. Her struggles are laid plainly on the page; her pain and strength are there for all to take in. I felt like I was sitting across from her, having a conversation.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. Honestly, I didn't know much about her when I requested this book; I picked it because she's from my hometown, and I used to be obsessed with her brother's band. I was elated to learn about Ginger and her life. I knew from the beginning of the book that I would like it, just from the way her words flow. I felt connected to her and the story right away; I devoured the book.

I deal with many mental health issues, and hearing someone talk about it who is perceived as almost perfect with such a big platform was powerful.

This book wasn't what I expected. It blew my expectations out of the park. I look forward to reading the book she released prior to this one and following her life more.

I was so excited to get access to this one that I read it in a day. I read the last book by Ginger and I find her story to be an incredible one. I was glad to get more details, even if hard to read at times. She has been through much, but you can tell that she has learned from those experiences. Much like she said, it seems like a lot when you put it all together. I appreciate that she is sharing her story with us and am very grateful for books like this. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this one.

In a follow-up to her honestly written book "Natural Disaster", Ginger Zee continues exposing her true self and struggles of family life, college, and her bouts with depression and eating disorders. This is a very relatable book for anyone who is struggling with mental illness and perfectionism and I recommend this book to demonstrate how Ginger transforms into her highly successful and capable career and family life.

I don't watch morning TV so I had never seen Ginger Zee do the weather on Good Morning America. I like memoirs, though, and this one is intense and candid. She is extremely candid, and no topic, including rape, divorce, suicide, mental illness, domestic abuse, and abortion, is off limits. Ginger realizes that she was lucky, for despite all of the trauma in her life, she ultimately wound up with her dream career and a caring husband. I liked her (meteorological) message to readers, especially to other women survivors of trauma: "The storms don't last forever; they can't and they won't. It's not how the atmosphere works and it's not how life works." Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC.

I am a big fan of Ginger Zee - both for her work on GMA and who she appears to be as a person. I enjoy reading about her life, but this book very much felt like it was for her as opposed to the reader. Or maybe it just wasn't for *this* reader as I do not have personal experience with many of the things she discussed.

A Little Closer to Home felt a bit disjointed in parts. For example, the chapter that starts out with Ginger walking to her old apartment to pick up her security deposit - I honestly wasn't sure if that portion of the story was going to be wrapped up, because the "here's how I get there" portion of the chapter was so in depth and not necessarily directly correlated. There was also a lot of mention of the previous book. If you haven't read her first book, I would definitely do that before picking this one up. But even having read it (as I have), I couldn't remember the details and felt a little lost at times while reading this book as a result.

Still a good read though, especially if you enjoy following Ginger Zee's career - from GMA to the exciting adventures she goes on.

Ginger Zee does a lot of good in giving readers a gripping place to feel understood, connected, relatable. Her revelations are to be commended, and if you're in a dark place right now during the holidays, you're certainly going to find comfort and uplifting advice here. Ginger Zee uses her platform well.

Need a heartfelt memoir to read this holiday season? Look no further then to Ginger Zee’s, A Little Closer to Home. Ginger takes readers into her struggles and let’s readers see th@t she is not the perfect, out together tv meteorologist. See discusses openly her mental health struggles and does not leave a page unturned from true honesty.

* I will never be able to describe and compare Ginger’s experiences to my own as that would be invalidating who she is. But I recommend that readers open this story up if they want to know more about Ginger or read a book around someone surviving mental health struggles.

This is Ginger's follow up book to the bestselling Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I am One. I really enjoyed reading her story in that book and in a little closer to home, we get a much more in depth look at the life of Ginger Zee. This is raw, emotional, candid, and painfully honest. Ginger puts a real face on the real issues of mental health; Depression and anxiety, anorexia, two suicide attempts, being drugged and raped, bouts with excessive drinking, and the devastating mental side effects that result from an abortion. Her honesty and her strength in working to overcome these issues is impressive! I first came to "know" Ginger Zee as a meteorologist on a local station in her home state of Michigan. She impressed me with her intelligence and her enthusiasm. Her bubbly personality and Sparkling natural beauty didn't hurt her TV presence at all. Fast forward a few years to when she she became the meteorological face of GMA and landed the impressive position of ABC News Chief Meteorologist. This girl had it all… brains, beauty, talent. But Ginger's story serves to show us that that no matter what we see on the surface, we never know what's going on underneath. Her willingness to share her imperfections with the world, to show us all what she has been through (and how far she has come despite it all) is nothing short of bravery. In peeling back the perception of perfection that the public has overlaid on her, by giving a highly recognizable face to the many and varied issues under the umbrella of mental health, Ginger will help countless individuals by her selfless act of sharing her story!

Wow.. this book was even better than I imagined it could be before I started reading it. I have always been a Ginger Zee fan! I have always admired and respected the work that she does as a meteorologist not only from a journalism perspective being a journalist myself but as a viewer she has a way of making you feel connected.

After reading this book.. I can honestly say I admire and respect her even more. Also.. that girl has guts.. she is definitely brave and you will most likely agree when you read her book.

But.. you also get to see Ginger in a more vulnerable state sharing parts of herself and her life and in the end it made me love her even more!

Seriously.. journalist or not.. read this book people! It’s so so good!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. I really loved it. My review has already been posted on Goodreads :)

Such an emotional book! Ginger Zee tells her story in such raw detail, you hurt for her. At times I found this book difficult to read because of the content, but Ginger has a way of reaching you so you can read those difficult passages.

Well written, heart breaking, and heart warming all in one book!! 4⭐

I am a huge Ginger Zee fan and devoured her first memoir "Natural Disaster." I have to be honest, I feel like she should have stopped there. While I gave this 4 stars because she truly did pour her heart and soul into it and told us so much about her- I feel like she should have stopped after that first one.

I read Gingers first book and absolutely loved it! This is a a continuation of that story and she reveals even more personal insight into her story this time around. While the first one was introduced her fans to herself and her battle with. Depression this one dives right into the grit of things revealing many personal battle Ginger has dealt with as well as the not so pretty side fans are used to seeing of the bubbly morning meteorologist. I absolutely love Ginger and appreciate her candidness and it was so interesting to read about people that you would least expect going through these issues and coming out on the other side.
