Definitely a Wattpad book with the cringy lines and tropes, but still a cute story overall. This book is about Asher and Wren, two kids from different backgrounds, connected by a job. When Asher works his way into Wren’s life, things change for the better. Wren is still facing her traumas but Asher helps her work through.

The protectiveness of Asher is what kept me going, as family is important in my life, too, so I connected with this plot point. I also enjoy the bad boy, yet good boy, trope in stories, so this hooked me in, too.

I’d recommend this after it is 100% published outside of Wattpad! Thanks for the opportunity to read!

I loved reading this book! It was an adorable title with great character development and a cute plot line. The conflict wasn't too strong but it was a good read nonetheless.

The Hoodie Girl is told from two perspectives: Asher and Wren.
Asher is the athletic one, who is popular. While Wren is the quiet one that tends to stick to her small friend group.
That is until Wren ends up babysitting Asher's little sister, and when Asher becomes injured they all end up spending a lot of time together.
Wren and Asher slowly become friends and their friend groups start interacting together. They both end up helping each other deal with things going on in their lives.

Overall I was left wanting more from this book. I was expecting it to be more sports-focused based on the synopsis. Sadly this was not the case because right in the beginning Asher gets injured and we don't see him back on the ice again. If this hadn't been pitched as being sports-related I think I would have ended up liking this book a lot more.
It is a very sweet coming-of-age love story that deals with the tough topic of the loss of family in two different ways. Asher and Wren have both been through things in their life, and they learned from them. They did work together well for the most part and were good for each other which was nice to see because I didn't think they would at first.

If you want a sweet romance book this is for you. Just don't expect a lot of sports-related stuff to happen.

3.5 ⭐️

This was another Wattpad Books book that I loved when I was younger, but that didn’t give me the same effect years later.

The author did however do a good job at giving Asher and Wren actual real person depth that I find I often miss in Wattpad books, and that’s a huge win in my eyes.

The hockey also was a huge win for me as I’m a sucker for reading about the sport! The scenes were very well described and you could tell the author knew what she was talking about.

Asher did and forever will hold a special place in my heart. And it is a cute read. The only downfall in my opinion is that Wattpad keeps essentially publishing the exact same book with slightly different plots.

I think I will read this again, however, as it is a feel good, easy read with a male MC that I adore.

At first I thought that this was going to be another stereotypical 'unpopular girl meets popular boy' novel, but I was happily proven wrong. I enjoyed this novel much more than I expected to.

I absolutely loved this book! I read it while it was on Wattpad and I am forever grateful I was able to also have the experience of reading it physically as well.

I really like Wren. And I wanted to like this story. And I basically did because I forgave the parts that were overly familiar and the descriptions of a hockey game that were just wrong. I’m looking forward to Yuen Wright’s next books.

Thanks @netgalley for the arc!

Wren Martin isn’t what you would call a popular girl. She is remarkably average, gets good grades, and aspires to get a scholarship to her dream college and leave her hometown. Asher Reed―star athlete and heartthrob of Eastview High―is everything wrong with high school in one frustratingly good-looking body. But when an on-field accident leaves him sidelined for the season, he takes an interest in Wren. With an undeniable connection, Wren and Asher form a friendship that quickly turns into something more.

This book was a cute high school romance. Both Wren and Asher had they own problems and backstories that made them more complex characters. I liked how they slowly begun to heal, together. I enjoyed the friendships portrayed in this book with Wren and Mia and Asher and his friends Brody and Zac. I also liked how this book touched on more serious issues like mental health, trauma and pain. Wren and Asher made a cute couple and I enjoyed their cute moments and the epilogue.

Overall, this debut novel was an enjoyable and fun YA romance.

I really liked this book. It was a developing story between a popular and not so popular person and how they connect over the course of the story after the so called popular protaganist is injured while playing hockey. I don’t know why but I kept picturing Noah Centineo or Daren Barnett is the main role. It was a very cute story and I love YA titles like this so I really enjoyed it!

i requested this ebook of netgalley, both the cover and the description got me interested and curious since it sounded like a cute romance story. its also a wattpad story. it follows wren, a girl who isnt popular, shes avarage and gets good grades, who dreams of gettin a scholarship to yale and leave her hometown since its filled with sad/bad memories. and about asher whos a star athlete and popular but who ends up havin a accident that leaves him sidelinedfor the season he takes interest in wren. they then start formin a friendship..
i realllly liked these characters and even the side characters , i like that wren likes to read and paint. shes also clumsy, stubborn, funny ,very smart, sassy but also sweet. i liked her and her best friends mia interactions. mia is very helpful when wren was havin worst days and or when she was havin panic attacks etc. at first we dont know what happened to mia and to why she wears her red hoodie so much and why she doesnt really talk to other people except mia , or why she cant paint anymore etc but then we find out why. asher was so dreamy cute and charming and funny and sassy always teasing her. hes also smart and a good student. his friends brody and zach were also pretty funny and good friends too. none were douchbags and annoyin which i liked. also ashers lil sis is so adorable. even both moms too. this book alternates between wrens and ashers point of view. i like that it kinda started with enemies to lovers (wren tries to not be friendly to asher and tries to ignore him but he tried to talk to her and thinks of her etc) to then them becoming friends and wren is also friends with zach and brody and mia is too. we can see they have a connection but they dont admit it yet. its slow burn. small things happen like a gesture or a touch. they take things slow and more in a friend way even if asher teases her sometimes in a cute way. the book was easy and fast to read too. i liked the ending too.

SPOILERS:
Im glad asher got to play again and things worked out with his injury and gettin to grover school. and that they stayed togheter even dispite the distance and i like the epilogue too. its cute the poem he wrote for her and the prom thing.asher is very sweet and thoughtful.

I love the plot of this book. I mean who doesn't want to be invisible sometimes. Maybe I was just a shy teenager but I can definitely relate to this. This book is filled with situations and a whole bunch of relatable moments. I highly recommend this book to others.

I was really excited to read this book as soon as I read the blurb, but I probably should have done some research before I requested it for review. I admit, I did not realize this was a Wattpad story, and honestly that may not have deterred me because I’ve read some great published books that started on Wattpad. Unfortunately, this book was very superficial and needed a lot better editing. It tried to go “deep”, but it failed to hit that mark. The pacing was choppy and all the first name/last name switch-ups was ridiculously confusing. I’m disappointed because this story had so much potential.

Not so special characters topped off with a story I've heard 1,000 times before? Yawn. I wanted to love this. I really did. It just fell short for me.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy read while still dealing with big issues.
My one complaint was that I wanted to have more of Asher's story. Even though his viewpoint was every other chapter, it seemed like he was a side character. I felt like his issues were never really resolved or dealt with. Personally, I found his story more compelling. Wren hid from the world, Asher learned to cope within the world.

3/5
The hoodie girl is another cliche Wattpad romance book and I hate to assume that every Wattpad romance book is the same but the ones that I've come across always have the same plot just slightly different. And it's not a bad thing for a book to be a cliche but it makes it hard to rate it higher than an average rating. It starts with a character that's shy yet outspoken and then the cool popular guy who is secretly insecure. Overall the writing was okay and the characters were fine but like I said earlier books like this aren't usually going to get higher than 3 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Hoodie Girl is a quirky, adorable, emotionally packed swoon-worthy journey. Following the tentative and unexpected friendship between Wren and Asher had me turning page after page with a "will they/won't they" vibe. I love Wren's mom, Asher's friends and especially his little sister. The growth that both of our main characters make during their budding love story is inspiring, feeling natural in terms of pacing and development. I love their story! Highly recommended for readers who love a sweet romance that takes the quiet girl/popular boy trope and turns it sideways. I was privileged to received an advanced reader copy for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
