I wanted to love this one more than I did. In Invisible Victim, now known as Ten Days, we follow two POVs - Eva, the reporter covering abduction cases and Alex, the captor. Having the captors POV isn't something we always get in thrillers and I think having this POV really added to the book. The reader definitely gets to understand the captor and their motivations. Unfortunately, I found the plot, as a whole, a little lackluster and tired. I feel like I have read several thrillers with similar plots and this one just lacked punch for me. I needed more tension and suspense I think.

It's been a while since I read a Mel Sherratt and thought I would break up a series I am reading with a standalone and this seemed to fit the bill. Eva Farmer is a journalist who absolutely loves her work. Recently she has been covering the cases of women being snatched and then released after ten days. There seems to be no common links and none of the victims can seem to shed any light on the person responsible.

Early on in the book we get an idea of Eva's personal life with her police husband Nick and her life seems just ordinary. It's clear she has compassion for victims and her newspaper pieces tend to be very fair and balanced. When Eva herself is taken she has absolutely no ide why and more to the point what will happen to her. I must admit I felt like this was a bit of a departure from other Mel Sherratt books I have read, however that isn't to say I didn't enjoy it, just to note that it is slightly set apart from her other style of books.

It didn't take me long to plough through this book and I admit I enjoyed the way the story was delivered while un-layering each piece of the story. A well written and dark book but one that I enjoyed and would recommend.

I have not read this author before but I loved the twists and turns in this book. It kept me guessing! I am not sure, for me, it was a any new twist on a story that I feel has been told by many authors. But I do think I will read a few more books from this author before I make my final decision on the books as a whole. *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

An author that my Mum recommended as she absolutely loves her books and now I just can't get enough. I picked this one up and just couldn't keep reading as I just had to keep turning the pages. You never see the twists and turns that are coming and it makes it so hard to anticipate and makes for compelling reading.

This was my first book by this author and definitely won’t be my last! I loved the writing style, plot and the twists which I didn’t see coming at all! A fantastic thriller.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved this book. There were twists throughout, not just at the end and I was genuinely surprised by the one that came around halfway. It turned everything you thought you knew upside down. A great twisty read that I just couldn't put down.

WOW that was intense, I’ve read a few books by this author and they’ve all been great but this one totally blew me away, full of intrigue and mystery, this gripping story is a true thrilling read.

This book is probably the best I have read in a while, even though it's based on a uncomfortable subject I just couldn't stop reading. The story is about woman that are being kidnapped then let out after ten days. This is one of those books that I will always remember and will want to talk about to anyone who will care to listen. Just brilliant!

The story is about four women who are kidnapped and held for ten days. The last of the women taken is a senior news reporter, Eve who has written about the previous four women. The chapters alternate between Eva and Alex, the kidnapper. We learn about the early lives of both individuals.

Eva wakes up in a room that is as described by the released women she has interviewed after their ordeals. A small hole in the door, a mattress and a little light allowed through the window. The jewelry given to her by her loving husband is gone and she is wearing someone else’s clothes. The room is exactly as the first woman described…and now she is the fifth woman to be taken.

And through everything her adductor remained silent!

As the days pass, she can’t help thinking of the fourth victim, Jillian Bradshaw, a police officer and friend of Nicks who is still missing.

Eva will need to come to terms with a dark secret of her own that she has kept hidden.

This dark novel will keep you up late at night wanting to finish it. Lots of twists and turns and great characters with a brilliant twist.

I was unable to read this book in just one sitting regardless of how much I wanted to. And even then, when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it, and rerunning the situations over in my head to make sense of it all.
I hadn't read anything by this author before but will do again if they're all this good.
All the way to the end, I had no idea how it would finish, and was shocked when it came out. That's good writing right there.
Overall, this is a great book which I am happy to recommend to all thriller readers. I gave Invisible Victim, by Mel Sherratt five stars.

I thought that the book, was such a page turner. A great read. I loved the book. The plot was very well written. I truly cannot wait to read another book by this author.

What makes a person a psychopath? Can childhood trauma permanently warp a person’s perceptions? What constitutes revenge…and is it ever enough?
All of these questions came to mind, and most were answered, in this page turning thriller. It’s one that you truly have to experience to appreciate the thought that went into crafting this story.
So, as I hate spoilers, this review is going to seem a little cagey as I dance around specifics to get my own points across.
The method of storytelling was very effective. There was a lot of time jumping and several different characters’ points of view. Some were only one chapter long, but they were vital in the course of the story.
If you read the headings at the beginning of each chapter, you won’t be lost. They are a virtual map of where you should be in the story.
I really liked the characters, both Alex and Eva. I know that sounds odd, as one of them is a super-villain, but that’s part of what made this book so good.
Two people, who each experienced a horrific event as a child, who each took a different path to adulthood. The stark differences were clarified repeatedly without the author hitting you over the head.
The psychopathy of making victims feel how the villain felt was one of the most interesting aspects of the story and really made the book unique.
The claustrophobia felt by one of the characters was palpable for the reader. I could feel the closed in space, the darkness, the feeling of helplessness. Very atmospheric and another aspect that was very well-done.
There were several “whoa!” moments that I didn’t see coming. In fact, after the prologue, I had an idea in my head, but then the author went in a different direction, and I totally followed along. Turns out my initial reaction was correct. Kudos for that red herring, as it lasted for at least a third of the book!
I did think there were a few things left a bit unfinished. Milly seemed to be extraneous, for the most part. I mean, I get why she was included, but I couldn’t quite grasp what Alex wanted from her, unless it was normalcy.
I guess maybe that’s it.
In the course of relating backstory, the author also gives a voice to other invisible victims – children who suffer from horrific abuse and then get lost in the care system. Even though the story takes place in the UK, the same could be said for the US as well.
It is easy to see how a person, desperate for a normal life and people to love, could become warped and misinterpret any perceived slight as a great wrong.
This is a thriller that was well-written with sympathetic characters (even the psychopath). It kept me guessing, had many surprises, and is an excellent page-turner, perfect for a thrilling summer read.

This is an addictive and exciting psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down. We are introduced to Eva who is an investigative journalist. She has been covering the story of three young women who were abducted by the same kidnapper, kept in a cellar and then released ten days later. The police are unable to solve this case so Eva interviews all the victims to get their stories. A fourth victim was abducted four weeks ago but does not seem to have been released. Then one day Eva leaves home and isn’t seen again. When she awakes in a cellar she realises that she has become the fifth victim, but will she be released in ten days time? The chapters are told in flashbacks between Eva and her kidnapper Alex and we get background information on the previous victims from Eva’s reports. Eva strikes up a relationship with Alex who it appears has a broken and warped mind, but realises that she is going to have to relive a traumatic event from her childhood in order to be freed from her ordeal. As the story unfolds the tension and suspense become unbearable. A highly recommended series read.

I. Really enjoyed listening to this book , right from the start I was into the story.
It was paced very well at strategic places , the narrator making things really in the mood whichever that was at the time,
I would buy this for some of my friends the ones who would be on edge easily, I would also buy this for others who enjoy a really good storyline .
Really exciting and breath holding.
