I read Invisible Victim over the weekend. Hooked from page one and so invested in it I was up at 630 on Sunday morning so I could finish it. Great plot line and characters. Emotive yet dark and thrilling. I devoured every page of this fab psychological thriller. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture ana the author for the chance to review.

This is such a dark but very compelling story that once I began to read it, I couldn’t wait to get back to once I was finished work. Right to the very last part , I had no idea of whether Alex was going to leave Eva to her own fate . Mel is a new author for me and anyone that can keep me guessing right to the last page would make me go and check out her other books. I would like to thank the publishers and Netgalley for letting me have the ARC to read and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased.

A good read.
Someone is out there abducting women.
Everything looks just like the others described: a small hole in the door, a mattress and a narrow window allowing only a small chink of light. The jewellery given to me by my loving husband has gone and I’m in someone else’s clothes.Just days before, I had interviewed the third victim for the local paper. She couldn’t stop shaking. Her story was the same as those before her: an ordinary woman, locked away for ten days then released with no explanation, and nothing – nothing she could think of – to link her to the others. Throughout the ordeal, her abductor stayed eerily silent.
I loved the main characters. Narration of Mel is awesome.
I'm doing more promotion on its release date among my fellow Authors Bloggers Family Friends and followers.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advanced copy.

Mel Sherratt is an incredibly skilled writer, and the slow suspense in this book made me want to know what will happen next. This is why I had to read it in one sitting, even though I had plans on doing other things. Luckily the story grabbed me, pulled me in, and kept me hooked until the end.

I enjoy psychological thrillers, because I want to know why people turn bad, what triggered them, and how they keep on telling themselves what they are doing is fine. I am also fascinated about how differently people react when they are the victim.

Mel Sherratt has a talent for understanding the twisted mind of a person gone off the rails. Not only that, she can write about it in a way that the reader captures the true soul of the story, the people behind the facade. I enjoyed the story. It was a bit different, and I think it will stick with me for a while.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Invisible Victim by Mel Sherratt is an unputdownable suspense/thriller that will appeal to fans of Goodnight Beautiful or Room. The story revolves around Eva, a journalist who is covering a series of mysterious appearances of women in her town. What is especially creepy is that the women are all returned after 10 days, in horrible shape, but alive. So when Eva wakes up herself in the room that the women she interviewed were kept in, she panics.

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 2 from when Eva wakes up in the house of horrors:

"Ignoring the pain in her head, she turned around swiftly and put her feet to the floor. There was a wooden door to her right. Slowly she stood up and walked towards it, taking tentative steps on the cold tiles. As she reached it, she saw there was no handle.
Gasping for breath, she banged on the door.
'Hello?'
It was then she noticed the hole cut away in the bottom panel. Even before stooping down to examine it, tears pricked her eyes. Because realisation was dawning on her... Even if she could kick it away, it wasn't big enough for her to climb through.
Which is what the first woman to be abducted had told her. And the second. And the third."

After I read that excerpt, I had to keep reading to find out what happens to Eva. One highlight of this book is that it alternates perspectives between Eva and her kidnapper. I couldn't put this book down. I finished it within a few hours. I did take off one star because there wasn't much of a "twist" in this book and the ending was a bit of a letdown. However, the suspense and thrills more than make up for that. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Overall, Invisible Victim will appeal to readers of Goodnight Beautiful and other dark books that involve people being held captive. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above or if you're a fan of the suspense/thriller genre, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in June!
