I really enjoyed reading this one! It was not what I was expecting and that was a pleasant surprise. The characters stole my heart quickly and didn't let it go until the last page was read. Love it!

I think this might have been a great book. However, it did not quite capture my attention and I felt like the relationship between Juliana and Rory was quite drawn-out. I think fans of Highland romances would enjoy this one, nevertheless.

I hate to say this and I usually never leave a review if I don’t finish a book but since I was gifted book from Netgalley I needed to leave some type of review.

I just couldn’t get into this one. I put it away for awhile to see if maybe coming back to it would help and unfortunately it didn’t. This is def a it’s me not you type of thing.

I have really enjoyed books by this author in the past and will still read in the future.

This was my first book by this author and it most certainly won't be my last. I loved it. It was well written and there was a perfect balance of action, romance, and plot.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for the chance to read this wonderful story. As always, my opinions and ratings are entirely my own 🤗

When I picked up this fun Scottish romance, I was deeply missing Outlander. This book helped me deal with the draught and was a historical romance that I absolutely flew through during the week. The hero? Yummy. The heroine? Super fun and plucky. It was a solid, true to genre read that scratched my itch and was what I wanted in the moment.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an Advance Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book started off well but then dragged on a little bit towards the middle and I had to really try hard to finish it. It's very well-written and the plot was interesting but the characters seemed too stereo-typical to me. I couldn't really understand Neal's dogged determination to abduct Julianna - it seemed excessive.
In any case, this was a light read and took be about a day to finish, so if you are into Highland romances, you may enjoy this one.

❗CW/TW❗ this book does contain themes of rape (flashbacks and PTSD), abuse/violence against women
.
As someone who has lived through abuse/rape and struggles with PTSD I was still able to read and enjoy this book, but it may not be the same for others. The author was very open (there is a TW in the beginning of the book) and honest about how past abuse can affect your future. Also how a good man (or woman, or whoever) can help that healing process when they understand slut shaming does NOTHING for anyone. For being a romance (and having some exxxtra steamy scenes), it had deep themes and elements that made me enjoy it on a separate level than other romances I've read. I was really quite impressed.
This is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone (at least I enjoyed it as such!). The world building and descriptions of Scottish Highlands is dreamy and alive, and her character development is fabulous. Def recommend for all my romance readers out there!!!

This was a cute road trip romance set in the Highlands of Scotland. Juliana and Rory must make the best of a situation as she is rescued and they are chased.

Note: Warning
Discussion of a rape appears within the novel. Scenes depicting graphic violence also appear. They could be considered triggering to you, please take note.
Highland Hero, by Cynthia Breeding. I have to say that this is a wonderfully written book. I think that the writer did an excellent job of capturing my attention with a plot and holding to it for the duration of the book. I would like to see that the leading lady’s age range bumped up to twenty four or older. I find that this helps for me to read the book more comfortable when it comes to the romantic scenes.
I was impressed by the entertainment in the story. The characters where very fresh and charming. They brought humor and a stiff upper lip to all that has transpires in the story. The action was light but provided some intensity to the drama. Rory and Juliana did bring some of their own drama, but for me I found it somewhat quite comical and very entertaining. I found the book to be an excellent page turner.
I believe with how easy that it was to read the book helped the book to be a page turner. The writer has the awesome talent to tell the story with descriptions in the story that plays well with the readers visualization. I like that the writer didn’t trail off from the point of the story or add unnecessary information. I appreciate that the writer wrote Juliana’s character as a strong, opinionated, determined and independent woman. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

Highland historical romances are a major part of my reading wheelhouse, and I have rarely read one I did not enjoy. This book did not let me down. Juliana and Rory are a fantastic couple. I loved that he was willing to do anything to save her. It was definitely a slow burn, but the romance between them was first-rate. I need to find other historical romances from this author as soon as possible.

I absolutely loved Highland Hero. Set in the Scottish highlands in 1774, this story hooked me on the first page and kept me on my toes to the last. Juliana Caldwell and Rory MacGregor are both strong characters with plenty of personality. The constant tension between these two as well as external factors kept things on the boil. The story was emotionally engaging throughout both because of the growing passion between Juliana and Rory and because of external factors that made sure their path to true love was not a smooth one. I galloped through this book and am hoping that the next one inthe series comes along soon.

I really enjoyed this, but felt like it could have been longer.

Before starting this, I had a slightly different image in mind of how this was about to go, because I had thought they would be pulling off the act for being a more or less married couple throughout the most of this book, but that only happened in very select places, which is a front I was disappointed on.

Also, I felt like the ending was just too abrupt considering the pace the rest of this book had set, and I was definitely disappointed with that. I wanted to know more about the aftermath of their last interaction, how they returned home, what everyone's reaction was, did they all see it coming or not, etc etc.

I also felt that the villain was more or less redeemed, which is not what I had wanted. I found the villain nauseatingly reprehensible and positively disgusting, and all the scenes in his POV made me sick, and so when he got like two lines in the ending, I felt a bit cheated. And like, he didn't even get much of a comeuppance.

The romance by itself had wonderful buildup, and I loved the enemies to lovers progression. I also really loved that certain trauma was well handled, and nothing was rushed into without any basis; I liked that our hero, Rory was understanding, and honestly I wished that the guy who hurt her was still alive, just so I could see Rory tearing him to pieces. Which is also why I really, really loved the hurt comfort in this.

The fake relationship added wonderfully to the romance and the humour, seeing these two characters who really didn't like each other pretending to be more or less married was an amazing journey, and I just couldn't stop reading!

I would love to read the first book in this series, and the ones in the future, because this writer has firmly won me over with her writing. The romance was amazing, and I will definitely be checking out more books by her in the future.

On the whole, an amazing read, if not for the slightly abrupt ending. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romances, fake relationships, enemies to lovers, is okay with books dealing with sexual abuse (rape, and this is a TW), calculating MCs who try to come up with ways to outwit each other and everyone else and more or less fail, and a great romance literally set in the Highlands.

This was new to me author and I’m so in love with her already! I can’t wait to read more by her! This book was absolutely wonderful! I loved every single page! Juliana & Rory’s story was everything! I loved their banter, their journey, and their growing romance! Rory is such a swoony hero! He’s a tracker who’s been sent to find Juliana after she’s been kidnapped by a man looking for revenge! When Rory gets to Juliana he had to claim they are handfasted even though Juliana isn’t sure what that really means. She believes they are just betrothed not actually married. On their journey home, these two have to find the elements in December while a storm is coming. Watching these two slowly fall for one another was the best! Especially knowing Juliana’s past.(there is a disclaimer at the beginning for talk of past rape) It was done in such a respectable way. I truly believe Rory and Juliana were made for each other! I can’t wait to read what’s next!

A great book to read . It had an interesting plot, great characters and plenty to keep me reading on until the end. I will definitely read more of this series.

This is a Rowdy, Playful, and High Spirited Book! The author Cynthia Breeding has written characters so full of life that you cannot imagine closing the book! You won’t want to miss what is about to happen next or what comes out of the mouth of Rory MacGregor who is charged with retrieving Julianna Caldwell from a rival clan. However, it doesn’t help that Rory and Julianna are like oil & vinegar. Rory seems to bring out the tiger in Julianna, but that can be good and bad.

This is definitely one of those books that you will want to read and share with friends!

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

Thank you, Net Galley, for providing me a free copy of the ebook!

This was my first book by this author. It was a really fun Highland romance, with just enough action. It was slightly light on the steam, but there was definite chemistry between the two main characters, Rory and Juliana.

Juliana gets kidnapped while at her sister’s wedding in the Highlands and Rory is sent after her. They have never really gotten along, but are forced to spend time together after he rescues her and they have to slowly navigate their way back to Rory’s home without getting caught by the person who kidnapped Juliana.

So, this is a road trip romance with the “only one bed” trope and sick bed scenes for both main characters. I love a good care taking scene, so I really enjoyed these! 🥰

I will admit it took me a while to get into this, but by the halfway mark I was fully invested.

I’m also glad that the resolution wasn’t drawn out into some OTT ending with the “villains” monologuing while metaphorically twirling their mustaches. It was very refreshing to see an ending without all of that. Maybe that’s just me, though. Ha!

I definitely plan on reading the rest of this series. I haven’t read book 1 and I also want to see what happens to the rest of the characters. I hope Aileen and Greet get their own books. They were a lot of fun!

(Please note I have submitted this review on Amazon, but they put it in a queue for review and they do not seem to like my posting reviews for ARCs when I didn’t buy it from them. Hopefully they will approve it and it will go live soon.)

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I am an instant fan! While it is technically the second in a series, it can be read out of order as with many historical romance series. While the first book followed Ian MacGregor and Emily, this book follows Ian's brother Rory and Emily's sister Juliana. My heart is still swooning over these two!

So the book begins right away with some action, as Juliana is kidnapped by rival clan's Neal Cameron. Rory is sent to track her down and bring her back. These two clash in the best way possible. This book brings in the enemies to lovers trope, and does it in such a fantastic way! I absolutely loved the chemistry between the two even when they were bickering and arguing lol! Cynthia Breeding wrote the characters in such a way that I was feeling each and every emotion they felt, and falling in love with them even more as each page went by.

The plot itself was really well done in my opinion. I was never bored, and liked the way the storyline progressed. Juliana had faced some trauma with a man earlier in her life, and as such, had an intense distrust and fear of sexual encounters with any man. This aspect of the story was written in such a way that was not too graphic, yet conveyed the emotions of someone in her position quite well.

I absolutely adored how Rory treated Juliana, right from the beginning of the book, despite his frustration with their conversations. There was never a moment when I was cringing at something being said or done between the two of them, which was such a relief.

Overall, I think this was a really well done novel, with a great historical aspect to it. I loved the characters and the plot, as well as the writing style of this author. I look forward to reading the first book in this series, and any books that come after this one as well!

This book started out really good! It was a great historical romance with a well driven plot, however I found the middle section seemed to drag on. At times I felt like I had to force myself to finish reading this. The ending was good but I wish the middle was cut down a bit more. That being said this was still a decent historical romance read.

The right amount of steam and romance.
