I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A good female drama novel. Good weekend read.

Set in Dublin and then America in the early 1900s, Hannah and Andy are determined to marry but her father is dead against the marriage as Andy is on the "wrong" side politically. Hannah's life turns upside down and she finds herself in a completely different place literally, mentally and spiritually. She flounders and though she is Catholic isn't truly committed to God as she feels she ought to be. She's also not where she wants to be and one day finds a mean of escape in the form of a young man called Wade. They quickly marry and have beautiful children who are Hannah's only balm and spot of happiness as she discovers her husband is not who he said he was.

The story and era are very interesting but the graphic adult scenes really turned me off and detracted from the story itself. The "love at first sight" trope is not one I am fond of. The potential is tremendous (so is the stunning cover!) but the book just wasn't for me.

My sincere thank you to Indies United Publishing House, LLC and NetGalley.
