Thanks to Rebel Girls for inviting me to read and review an e-copy of this book via Net Galley.

Having read other books in the Rebel Girls series, I had an idea of what to expect and wasn't disappointed. 100 mini-biographies of black women who have achieved amazing things throughout their lives and across the years. From authors, sportswomen and musicians through engineers, surgeons and mathematicians, there is sure to be a story here to inspire everyone. The book is up to date, including the inauguration poet, Amanda Gorman, and vice-president Kamala Harris.

A great addition to any school library.

Beautifully illustrated and truly inspirational, "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic" is a must-read for everyone. Representation is so important and especially in books for young readers to help them see how much they can achieve in their lives by seeing the accomplishments of people that came before them.

This book includes illustrations and stories of 100 empowered Black women - activists, scientists, athletes, actors, politicians, poets, etc - that will inspire and educate young readers on all the potentials that exist in the world.

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Tales of Black Girl Magic tells the stories of over 100 black women and girls who have made history, been a leader in their field, or in some other way been an inspiration. Each story is told on a single page, with an illustration of the girl/woman on the accompanying page. The stories range from women who lived hundreds of years ago to girls who have not yet become adults, yet have managed to make a real difference in the world.

I love this series, and this installment did not let me down. In addition to be a book all about Black Girl Magic, the book was written, edited, and illustrated by black women and non-binary people. The women come from around the world. I would highly recommend this book for a girls, but not only that – readers of all ages can learn about these fascinating, fabulous women in this enjoyable book.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Absolutely fantastic!! A joy of a read honestly, with lovely artwork of each woman.

The book focuses on a range of women: historical and recent, a mixture of backgrounds, religions, large and small scale impacts, and those who were old, young and middle aged when they achieved success.

Each story is a snapshot of one page, but it’s still rich enough to be satisfying. And there’s always Google for those you want to know even more about. I’d say a good 85% I hadn’t know about beforehand—although many I had been impacted by without realising.

It’s also a very nice touch that most stories start with “Once upon a time” or their introductions are written as a fairy tale would be. I can imagine care givers reading this to children while they lie in bed, exactly as intended; it’s a lovely way to recognise and celebrate black excellence, as well as showing that things are still not as they should be, that we’re still having to work for equal opportunity and unity.

Also I really liked the activity section in the back, thought that was a nice touch.

I absolutely need to get a physical book of this beauty. I love all the editions of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, but I lust say this must be my favorite one. We need more books like this in our lives, that would educated not only children but adults as well. This book taught me about so many wonderful courageous Black Women. And even though it is targeted for little girls, I am eager to read these to my son, when he will grow up.

And absolutely love the idea of bringing Black female illustrators to picture all these important figures in our history. I cannot wait to see next editions of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.

The Rebel Girls books are always a delight to read. The writing and design are fantastic. It's "bedtime stories" but still a perfect collection to keep in school libraries and classrooms.

This book was received as an ARC from Rebel Girls in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved the Rebel Girls series and they have become phenomenal with our school teachers for projects on Black History Month and Black Lives Matter Biography projects. While I was reading the book, I was inspired by a lot of the stories including Angela Davis, Flo Jo, and many others. The best part of all, was the inspirational quotes each woman gave to inspire generations to come to follow their dreams and never give up. The drawings and artwork also were executed impeccably.

We will consider adding this title to our J Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

A great resource for young readers who are looking to discover the lives of great females, specifically women of color who are often ignored.

What a wonderful collection of stories! This book is filled with engaging, amazingly written, accessible stories of wonderful women who have shaped our history. Even better, the illustrations are wonderfully done. While called a book of stories for rebel girls, I think they are great for anyone, even adults who haven't been considered a girl for a long time. A bit of caution, not all women featured in the stories are what would be considered fit to be pure role models. Of course, that is wonderful about these kind of books. They can be read together and foster great discussion. This is a really nice introduction to some of the women who shaped our world and written in an easy to read style that appeals to young people especially. It reads a lot like fiction, even though the stories are pulled from reality.

I love this series of books and this is such a great addition to the already published works. These stories of amazing black women are great for all to read, no matter their race or gender identity. I loved learning more about women I already knew about as well as new stories of those I’d not heard of before. This is great for reading in one night or spreading it out to read with your kids at night.

You truly can't go wrong with Rebel Girls. In true Rebel Girls fashion, 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is full of the inspiring stories and beautiful illustrations that the Rebel Girls collections are known for. I love that Rebel Girls worked with CaShawn Thompson, the #BlackGirlMagic originator who contributed the foreword for this collection. As Lilly Workneh mentions in the introduction, more than 60 Black female or nonbinary illustrators contributed the portraits for the book and four Black women authors worked on the stories. These are the kinds of stories I would want my children to read.
