A really important book that gives a quick guide to 100 black girls and women who have made a large impact on the world. Some are well known, but many are people whose history has been hidden away. This is such an inspiring book, especially for little girls to see they can be anything they want and do anything. Powerful stories, not my style of writing as not a big non fiction fan but it’s a great quick guide that you can then go and look up the people mentioned in more detail.

I just really love these books. Mixing a variety of stories with beautiful illustrations, this would make a lovely and inspiring addition to any child's library.

The Rebel Girls series is one that is easy to recommend. Each book is well put together and created to inspire girls to believe that anything is possible. Readers are offered the opportunity to appreciate the accomplishments of others who paved the way while they ponder their own paths.

This title does exactly what it promises. The stories of 100 Black girls are told. For each there is a beautiful illustration and a biographical sketch. These pages have stories about everyone from Angela Davis, (activist), to Aretha Franklin (singer), to Ava Duvernay (filmmaker), to Ida B Wells (journalist), to Joy Buolamwini (computer scientist), and so many more. Readers find the ways in which paths may have taken time to find. They may also read about injustices. For example pediatric neurosurgeon, Alexa Canady, was the victim of a teacher swapping her grades with those of a white student. Readers also find that she considered several fields before finding her calling.

This title belongs in school and home libraries so that it can be picked up and read anytime. Girls will benefit from spending time with this one. I guarantee it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s meant for younger readers but we all need some inspiration. This book helped me appreciate just how much different women have contributed to society. I also didn’t know the meaning of Black Girl Magic before this. Neither did I know the origins of powerful movements like BLM and the role played by black women.

I really like the diversity of the women featured on this book. In terms of careers, we have athletes, professors, activists, film makers, politicians and many more. I also liked that there were stories from women from different parts of worlds. I smiled so hard when I came across of the Kenyan athlete,Brigit Kosgei. There was also a story on the ‘Ujamaa Village’. A Kenyan all -female village occupied by matriachs. The only one of its kind in the world.

The stories are well, briefly narrated in one page chapters with illustrations of the featured women. All in all, this is a brilliant, inspiring read. Highly recommended

I'm a huge fan of all the Rebel Girls books. It's inspiring to read about the story of so many incredible women who made our world a better place.

"Life Tales of Black Girl Magic" is even more special, because these women had to face not only sexism, but also racism. And still, they managed to show their power and skills. I wish I could buy this book for all the black young girls, just so they can always have a reminder of their strength, no matter what the haters say.

And I love this quote:

"As I’ve grown up and now understand the world in a more adult way, I’ve come to realize that what I believed to be magic as a little girl was really the hard work, intelligence, strength, and love of the Black women around me. It is magical to see them spread their light in spite of the obstacles they have faced."

My daughters loved this book and have read all of the Rebel Girls Books. The broad range of individuals covered was not just enjoyable and educational for my children, but also for me as I learned a lot each night as we read a handful of stories at bedtime. I would strongly encourage others to buy and read this book and the other Rebel Girls books.

We all know the Rebel Girl format by now, so I won't waste time describing it here. This follows the normal pattern; a page per person, with a full page illustration. There are just over sixty illustrators for the hundred Black women and girls featured in the book.

As with all the Rebel Girl books, there are a lot of people here I didn't know about before. I really enjoyed reading all these new stories. Some of them are a bit upsetting; some are funny, some are heartfelt. All are inspiring.

I loved looking at the illustrations, as well. The variety of styles means they're never boring; I didn't skim over any because they looked similar to the last one, I studied each one. I'd like to spend longer looking at it once I get a physical copy.

I can't wait to share this with the readers in store; it's a great addition to the series, and hopefully will bring in some new readers who haven't tried the series before. I can't wait to see what Rebel Girls will do next; they're going from strength to strength.

This is the next installment in the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series and it is just as good as the rest! I am a firm believer that representation matters. This book is an amazing resource for young black girls, showing them they are full of magic and can aspire to and achieve their greatest dreams despite adversity. It is fully inclusive and includes both trans and cis-gendered women from around the world and throughout history. I also think it is just as important for white children of all genders to read this book. For so long (especially in America) black women have been considered to be beneath everyone. This book is a great reminder that everyone is worthy, simply by being human. Seeing so many examples of strong black women and girls will hopefully imprint that idea in young minds and help work against racial bias. Definitely a five-star read for kids of all ages!

And they're back!! This time with short biographies about Black women from all over the world and through out the decades. These bios are complemented by beautiful drawings of each woman. For me, the best thing about this collection is learning about amazing women whom I hadn't hear of before. It was also fun to read more about those ladies who I was previously familiar with. I'm enjoying these collections as an adult, but I wish they were available to me as a young girl.

Wow! I am blown away by the gorgeous illustrations and scope of content in this book. My daughter and I really love reading the profiles of the amazing women featured. The format of the book allows you to just be able to pick it up at bedtime or any time, read a profile or a few, and come back to it later! Each profile is accompanied by a beautiful illustration that invites you in to find out more about these accomplished women.
I highly recommend this inspirational book to everyone! It is especially helpful to me as I am looking for new ways to teach my kids about the many amazing diverse women out there who have made life-changing contributions to the world! This is a great tool for incorporating more diversity education and fostering an interest in learning even more about the featured women.

This is the fourth book in the Good Night Stories-line and so far it is my favorite. This book has a focus on Black women through out history and reading about all of these women made me realise how few of them I knew about beforehand.

I think this is the best book in the series so far, bringing forward 100 new stories of amazing and inspiring Black women and girls. I hope this book can help showcase their achievements and put an end to the idea that only white people can make history.

Another excellent book in the Rebel Girls series. This introduced me to many talented black women and their fantastic achievements. Bold, colourful illustrations help bring the stories to life. Lovely to read on my own (a mum in her forties) but also each story is the perfect length to read to my eldest daughter (who is 7) at bedtime.

While Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is being marketing to African-American children, everyone will benefit from reading these inspiring stories. Every vocation and sport is included here. There are LGBTQ+, bi-racial women, and various nations represented as well as the Muslim faith.

Each of the 100 biographies is a page long. Each bio is followed by a bright and beautiful illustration of the bio’s subject. The stories range from a 17th century African queen to a current bi-racial tennis star. Most of the illustrations include a quote from the person too. My favorite is from the late Toni Morrison and shown below.

“If you find a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.“

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a great book sure to inspire your child to pursue her (or his) goals. You may accidently find yourself getting inspired too. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars!

Thanks to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really adored all the short but sweet stories of People of Color and how they are making a difference and/or leaving their stamp on this world. It will be amazing for little boys and little girls to see this and no it can happen for them too.
