I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 real- life tales of black girl magic is a beautifully illustrated tribute to 100 amazing black women accompanied by a beautiful tribute and short but detailed page describing who they are and what they've don't to make a difference to the lives of people of colour. This book is an amazing book to share with all children no matter what race they are and is a great inspirational book for children to go to sleep after reading about. This shows girls especially that girls can aspire to do and become whatever they want to be and encourages them to reach for their dreams.

Thank you, NetGalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is not only filled with great stories and information, but it's also entertaining and beautifully designed. It includes a diverse array of Black women and non-binary people from across the world, with different backgrounds, careers, and aspirations. I appreciated how it didn't shy away from talking about individuals with LGBTQIA+ identities and their experiences. I also think it's amazing that the creative team - including the authors, editors, and artists - is made up of Black creators.

This book is written in a way that's easy for children to understand, but I think people of all ages will enjoy it.

Love these books. I read a page to my daughter every night and it sparks discussions about important topics that she might not otherwise we receptive to discussing. I do wish they were alphabetical by last time so we don’t have so many of the same names in a row.

This book is a collection of stories about real life black women. There is black woman from all walks of life. From charity volunteers, actresses to politician and astronaut. Women of different nations, class and ability.

100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is alphabetized by first name. I felt this was a mistake and there were several women with the same first name which was easy to confuse. I think it would have been better had they been alphabetized by last name they would be easier to remember each woman.

The illustrations were amazing and had included details about each of the women's lives. Some were abstract and some used realism but each brought a realness to the stories in the book.

It is shameful to say that for some reason, whether it be that I'm white, not American, not into sport ect, there were many of these women I had never heard of. Of course there were women like Viola Davis who I had known of for years, but still my lack of knowledge was shocking.

Specking of lack of knowledge, there was one thing in the book that infuriated me. I came across Flo Hyman who I had not heard of before but who like me, had Marfan Syndrome. The book reads " Flo died from an illness called Marfan Syndrome" it goes on to state incorrectly "Her long limbs had caused her heart to work twice as hard to pump blood around her body" this is a medical myth.

I'm not sure how much research the writer put into the condition. The truth is that Marfan Syndrome causes connective tissues to stretch over time. Which means it does not continue to hold muscle together the older the person gets. It is there for lightly that Hyman died due to an artery in her heart being too dilated, a dissection or an aneurysm. All I am sure of it was not down to having long limbs. I hope the writer does better research in future.

The publisher has been made aware of this mistake and has promised to correct it for the second edition. Unfortunately this mistake spoiled my enjoyment of the book. That is why I am giving it 4 stars and not 5.

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls introduced me to many amazing women I had never been introduced to before. These small stories encouraged me to find out more about them.

This is the fourth title in the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series and it is my favourite title to date.

It’s all well and good being told that you can be anything that you want to be but there’s nothing better than seeing people like you and reading about what they have achieved and knowing that through hard-work, dedication and determination you can do it too. Children need relatable, real and inspiring role-models and this is exactly what Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic delivers.

Featuring one-hundred Black women from history right through to the present day and bursting with #BlackGirlMagic, this is the most brilliant celebration of Black women and their achievements. Bang-up-to-date, the superbly collated collection of figures provides a great breadth of coverage. With the well-known names of Naomi Osaka and Kamala Harris, the lesser-known names of Yetnebersh Niguisse and Leah Chase, and the the inclusion of Black women who were born post-2000 - Kheris Rogers, MC Soffia and Nandi Bushell, there is at least one Black women for every reader to relate to and be inspired by. Diverse and inclusive, the featured Black women come from around the world, although most are from the USA, and established themselves and succeeded in a wide range of fields, it is almost an A to Z of endeavours from actors, artists, authors and activists through to veterinarians, vice-presidents, wrestlers and yoga teachers.

Arranged in alphabetical order, women are introduced over double page spreads featuring a full page biography and a vibrant illustration on the facing page. Each biography gives a snapshot of the individual, detailing childhood, growing-up, accomplishments, achievements and legacy. They are a lovely introduction to each of the women and many will leave readers wanting to find out more.

What I love most about this book is that it has been created exclusively by Black people. Four Black women wrote the biographies, the illustrations are the work of over sixty Black female or non-binary artists and the Black woman who coined the phrase ‘Black Girls Are Magic’ was responsible for hand-picking the one-hundred women who feature. All of this #BlackGirlPower does not mean this book is exclusively for Black children. It is a book for all children (and adults) who want to read incredible stories about amazing women who broke down barriers, tore up ‘the rule book’ and have paved or are paving the the way for future generations.

Beautifully presented, lovingly researched and packed full of #BlackGirlMagic, this is a fantastic celebration of Black women. Superbly informative, motivational and inspirational, the stories are testament to what is possible when you dare to dream, are not willing to accept anything other than the best and are determined to get exactly what you want in life.

Recommended for 6+.

With huge thanks to the Rebel Girls team for the advanced reader copy that I received via NetGalley.

This book was fantastic. I loved the format that these women were discussed in. I loved the illustrations paired with the single page descriptions. I got to read about women I already knew about as well as this book was a great introduction to women that I previously did not know about. There are several that I am interesting in learning more about in the future. I absolutely loved that transgender women were included in these stories. This book is a fantastic way of educating young readers about these women and different issues as well as is very inspiring for young readers.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC.

I really enjoyed the short stories! This would be an ideal read for little ones. It has so many prominent figures from past to present. I loved the diversity of realms that the Black Girl Magic figures represent. I appreciated the incorporation of illustrations as well, it made the read much more child friendly.

New is coming! I cannot wait to have it in the paper version and put it proudly on the shelf with other Rebel Girls books. It not only looks spectacular, but it's is a nice lesson of history and women's power.

I don't expect the tales about the black girls but it is a really cool idea. I'm aware that most of them are from the USA, not Europe, so we, as Europeans, don't really know anything about them, but in fact, it would be a great opportunity to read something more.

It is insane how these women beat the difficulties and found courage, power, and ambition to do more, get higher, and be someone who is a leader in the community.

Official release date is 28th September 2021.

I received a copy of the book by NetGalley but the opinions in this review are my own.

The Good Night Stories are part of a greater series that is pretty awesome, about celebrating women that might have been forgotten by history. The idea of celebrating black women in itself is great but I did not like so much how it was executed. I wished all these women had more than a one page summary of their lives. So I’ll celebrate the fact that black women are given at least a space but I’m hoping book publishers do more or that this series is further developped to dedicate single books for each and everyone of them.

I received the digital ARC of the book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review.

Good night stories for Rebel Girls:100 Real-Life tales of Black Magic is another success in the series. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone. I think it should be put in every school library. We need more stories of powerful inspiring woman.

This book successfully delivers snippets into #blackgirlmagic lives and backgrounds. Some of these amazing ladies had to go through a lot to conquer their dreams which makes this read a whole lot more powerful.

The art is also done by woman of colour from around the world, and though I love the idea I felt they were not necessary cohesive amongst each other, their styles are different and I think difficult to merge together. As I say that I must remind you that o read the advance reading copy and not the final product so once is finished and gone though the editorial design I’m positive it will all make sense.

This book is perfect to introduce children to some amazing black women and their lives. So many of these women I had never heard about before which is a shame but I am glad that the Rebel Girls series is highlighting their stories. Highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic by Lilly Workneh, Jestine Ware, Diana Odero, and Sonja Thomas.

This was an amazing book!!

First and foremost this book is all about Black Girl Magic (#blackgirlmagic) and is illustrated by over 60 black female and non binary artists, written by four black female authors (Lilly Workneh, Jestine Ware, Diana Odero, and Sonja Thomas) and edited and forwarded by CaShawn Thompson, the creator of the term Black Girl Magic!

This was a wonderful read. Reading about women I knew of, and women I did not know of and am now pleased and grateful to know of. So many women who have done fantastic things that I had not heard of before and deserve to have their stories shouted from the rooftops.

I have not got any children of my own yet, but my best friend has a wonderful five year-old girl who would love to hear about these amazing women of colour and I'm defiantly going to be purchasing a copy of this book so these wonderful women's stories can continue to be heard and shared with the new generation.

Thanks to Rebel Girls & NetGalley for the early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lots of familiar but also unfamiliar faces in this book, it's amazing how many historical figures have been largely overlooked for, ahem, obvious reasons. Thank goodness for Rebel Girls highlighting these iconic figures that have had a lasting impact all across the world in a variety of ways.

I really appreciate the wide range of women throughout the book, they're not all STEM majors or athletes, there's a nice wide range from artists to social justice activists, showing kids that you can do ANYTHING. :)
