This was a powerful, moving and inspiring collection of stories about 100 incredible black women.

I hadn't even heard of half of them so I'm very glad I got to learn more about these wonderful women. I ended up googling pretty much everyone after reading their story and I think the short bios in this book are a great way to teach children and get them interested in the history and resilience of Black women.

I certainly have some new heroes after reading this and wish we had more villages Umoja.

Buy this book for every child you know.

I'm a huge fan of the Rebel Girls Books. I love giving them as gifts to girls in my life, as well as reading them myself. Despite being a single page, the stories give just enough information to enlighten and inspire without becoming overwhelming and are a great inspiration for further research or discussion. As always, each fascinating, inspiring story in Good Night Stories for Rebel Girl is accompanied by a stunning illustration. In this case, all the portraits were created by Black and/or non-binary artists. I always come away from every book in the Rebel Girls series with a list of new heroines, and Good Night Stories is no different. Whether they are women I was familiar with, like Kamala Harris, Joy Reid and Nandi Bushell, to those who were new to me, such and Thokozile Muwamba, Roxanne Shante, and the entire village of Umoja, these women and their stories will stay with me for a long time to come.

This is a wonderful compilation of stories regarding the many wonderful black women that we have as examples. Each story is inspiring, and the illustrations that go with each story make the words come alive. This is a fantastic installation to the series, and makes the reader aware of many different black women.

This is a book that will inspire generations of Black girls. The combination of biography, imagination, and stunning illustrations make this a book that is a must-have in my collection! Black women and girls deserve to be fully seen— and this collection offers one attempt to do just that.

This is a beautiful compilation of stories about women of color from all walks of life, in varying age groups and different fields of work including a Mathematician, a Poet, Artists, Activists and even an Aerialist from Poland.

The layout of each page is visually appealing with stunning illustrations and a biographical sketch of each of the 100 Black girls featured. Its a great way for a reader to learn about their struggles and triumph and to draw inspiration from their journeys.

Best of all, there are blank pages at the end which gives the reader an opportunity to create their own stories. This book is a work of art in itself and should be cherished for years to come.

This book was amazing. Reading about women of color throughout history and their accomplishments is something that everyone should do no matter their age, and this book makes it accessible! The illustrations, the age range of the women and girls talked about, the comprehensive information about each woman, it all made this book one to remember. I loved every second of this book and I cannot wait to buy my own copy for my home as well as for my library. This book just goes to show that remarkable women come in all shapes and sizes and colors. I am so grateful that this book exists.

Accessible for children but also a very interesting read for adults too.

I know that this book is clearly written for kids and young adults, but I think it has useful information for anyone who wants to learn. This is really informative. I feel like I really had never heard of the vast majority of these extraordinary women of color discussed in this book. Which is too bad because their achievements are remarkable. I have seen these books around since I was a bookseller and I'm glad to see the series has continued. I saw this one in the Apple book store a few weeks ago and went to request it at my library only to see it on NetGalley as a read now, so I immediately jumped at the chance to read a book that highlights the greatness of Black women in society. I was not disappointed!

Each story is written in a fairy tale-esque manner ("Once, there was a girl who...") that makes the story engaging for children. The story is told in a short way, each one the length of a page, and highlights who the woman is, where she came from, and why they are someone to look up to. The range of people included in this anthology is staggeringly vast! The authors included women from all walks of life, all kinds of fields of interest from sports to science to the arts, women from today and spanning back to 1583 (!!), Afrolatinx women, Biracial Black women, Black women from many different countries (I was very pleased to find they weren't all women from the US), women who are disabled, women who are LGBTQIA+. There were stories to represent so many different types of people.

I also liked that the authors specified at the beginning of the book that the book is still for children who are not Black necessarily. It's important for Black children to see themselves represented, but it's equally that non-Black children see and relate to BIPOC people. BIPOC children have done this for years out of scarcity of representation and unfortunately, I have met many adults and educators who believe that if the protagonist doesn't look like you, it isn't "for" you. That mentality has to go, so good on the authors for addressing that and making sure the importance for ALL audiences is made clear.

The book can be read in a short amount of time because of the brevity of the material, but it could be reread and enjoyed multiple times. This could be a good jumping off point to learn more about each of these women in-depth, as well. The only story that made me feel "off" was that it's mentioned that Beverly Lorraine Greene started her career designing a building that specifically discriminated against Black tenants, so she "wasn't sure they'd want a Black architect"...that felt like a weird thing to highlight. Otherwise, the stories were well written and I enjoyed this title very much. The artwork was stunning and varied, giving many artists a chance to have their work seen and the material is presented in an engaging way that will make kids want to pull this out again and again.

Another fantastic addition to the Rebel Girls collection!

The women featured in this book are from different countries, religions, backgrounds, and time periods but they all share the common goal of making the world a better place. Their stories are inspirational, heart warming, and sometimes heartbreaking.
My favorite stories were the stories of Chido Govera, Clara Hale, Barbara Hillary, Taytu Betul, and Viola Desmond.

I am looking forward to reading Questions for Rebel Girls next.

This was a delightful and informative addition to both the podcast and the other books that have been published. I greatly the appreciate the focus on the accomplishments and triumphs of black women all over the world in this volume.

I have to give a big shout out to every artist that contributed a portrait to this collection. Every picture is vivid, bright, and bold. They perfectly match the vibrancy of the amazing women that are highlighted in these stories. There are several that I wouldn’t mind owning prints of, they look so gorgeous.

Each story provides the name, date of birth (and death of applicable), location, and career. The stories highlight how these women have had trials and sorrows, but also triumphs and successes. They were all thoroughly intriguing. And spanning hundreds of years, most of the women are within the last century, but there are a few historical stories as well. Some of these women I knew of, some I didn’t, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to more thoroughly research several of these women and their accomplishments.

Another fantastic and inspiring read, that I expected anything less from this wonderful series. The inclusion and representation in this is fabulous. There is a woman to inspire everyone in here and I loved the activites, recommended for kids (old and young )

100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic, a book in the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series edited by Lilly Workneh. One hundred (100) barrier-breaking Black women and girls are showcased in the spirit of Black Girl Magic. It begins with a foreword by CaShawn Thompson, originator of the hashtag #BlackGirlMagic. Over 60 Black authors, illustrators, and editors collaborate on incredible stories from the past and present.

This series launched in 2016 and I am just having the pleasure of reading an installment. It is very inspiring and powerful to read about Black entrepreneurs, poets, activists, artists, filmmakers, politicians, sports figures and more. This book introduced me to quite a few that really are Black Girl Magic—a phrase to uplift and praise the accomplishments of Black women.

Highly recommend for good night stories to yourself or to the little magical girl in your life.

I adored this book! I always love reading from this series because it really makes my heart so happy. This is perfect for young readers, and especially black girls looking for someone they can aspire to be, and a role model to look up to. I didn't know many of the people in this book but I loved reading about them and finding out new things I didn't know about them.

Thank you NetGalley for an opportunity to read and review this title. I have seen this on my Instagram feeds and it’s place was well deserved! I teach middle school students in a suburban middle school and the representation of Black women over time was incredible. I learned more about people like Clara Hale and Hale house. I loved the mix of Black women across time periods and industries. Poets like Amanda Gordon, athletes Gabby Douglass and Florence Griffith Joyner, to astronaut Jeanette Epps and midwife Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent.

I love that there’s one of these popular and inspiring “Rebel” books devoted to powerful black girls of all ages, accomplishments, some form the past and some current. #Blackgirlmagic

A beautiful collection of wonderful illustrations about wonderful Black women and their accomplishments. This is my 2nd book by Rebel Girl and I love that this entire book is made by Black women and non-binary artists. The stories are short but inspirational. The collection of women selected for this is very vast and diverse; from mixed race Black women to disabled Black women; from queer Black women to young Black girls as old as 11! I know this book is targeted towards young girls but I think anyone can read and find it inspirational.

This edition of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls focuses on tales of Black Girl Magic. The exemplary women included in this edition were in several cases pleasantly surprising. Black women from all over the world including Latin American and the Caribbean were featured in this edition and this was really nice to see. This is a great edition for all!

What an amazing book. I'm totally in love with Rebel Girls and finally there's one of Black Girl Magic.
