I really loved this book!

I listened to the audiobook and I thought the narrator did an amazing job! I loved the different voices that the narrator did for the different characters too!

I loved this book and Sunny was an easy character to relate too. She is a young teenage girl who is struggling between keeping tech and social media from taking over her life.
This book has many important messages and themes that should be shared with everyone.

This book was so funny and I laughed at some moments. Sunny is funny and relatable.
This book is awesome and I loved reading it.
I want to read more books by this author!

I was lucky enough to get an advanced audiobook copy thanks to NetGalley, so I can tell you it has:
- A fun and a little bit cool, a little bit awkward MC.
- Asian rep.
- A cute, nice guy.
- Brownies.

I will assume I’ve sold you with the mention of brownies.

Most of us can relate with the fact that social media is a big part of our lives now. Either through platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. We all need a break every so often to just disconnect. This book is exactly that, or at least Sunny tries her best to disconnect, and when she realizes that being socially connected 24/7 is not how life should be lived, she learns a little about love, family, and friendship. Like Ferris Bueller once said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” If you want a humor and romance book, this is a must read!

Sunny Song became the subject of a viral video years ago, and she’s been chasing that fame ever since. When things go wrong on a livestream, she is forced to go to digital detox camp or face expulsion. But she can’t possibly go without her phone for 4 full weeks, not when she’s been selected as a finalist to join a popular group of Youtubers. Is she willing to risk everything for fame?

I loved this book. Apart from having a cute romance set on a farm, it’s also a powerful message about how damaging social media can be. About how companies want your time to be spent scrolling and spending, not leading a fulfilling life. What I found most interesting was following a teenager whose parent had uploaded a viral video. Of course they are going to be social media obsessed when they are exposed that young.

Theo was an absolute sweetheart, though some of his views were pretty antiquated. And the seniors group killed me. Because I work with seniors at a rec centre, I love it when books have a quirky group of seniors. I can totally relate to Sunny during their tech support days!

Overall, this was a great read, and the narrator was fantastic. I’d definitely recommend!

I looooved this book!! It was super enjoyable, the author has a great writing style, and the audiobook narrator was absolutely perfect (with lots of voice nuances for the different characters!!)

I really liked the clash of fortunate kid from LA interacting with an Iowa farm boy, as well as the little wink to the toilet paper "crisis" from the early COVID days😂👌

If you're looking for an enjoyable contemporary perfect for summer, with a great ending, pick this one up! You won't be disappointed. Oh, and the character growth is so well done!

This book *might* also help you take a step back and rethink your own social media consumption. As well as what is or isn't social media addiction 🤷‍♀️

Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous written by Suzanne Park, narrated by Joy Osmanski

PUB DATE: June 1, 2021

This sweet & hilarious YA contemporary coming-of-age story is about 17-yo Sunny Song who has minimal real-life experience but is a social media influencer with 90K followers. She’s dropped every hobby & interest to spend hours working on her content. After her parents & sister Chloe walks in on her baking brownies livestream but accidently wearing just her tattered sports bra, her principal tells them to send her to digital detox camp on a farm in Iowa!

Social media can sometimes blur the lines between our real selves vs our online façade. During a small group meeting, their life coach asks the kids to make a “meme” of themselves on a poster board. Some kids consider their online life as always “on”, under demand, glitzy/glam or downright fake. While their real self is depressed, scared, & vulnerable. As Sunny starts to realize all the things she’s missing out, she is torn between the empire she’s trying to build that may hold her future vs the relationships & experiences she has in the real world. She makes a friends including Delina, a black mukbang youtuber & develops a sweet & lighthearted romance with Theo!

The underlying message that connecting online can be crucial and should be used deliberately and intentionally while maintaining interests and relationships in real life is equally as important.

It was clear to me why “Sidebraid” had it out for Sunny. She’s the pivotal “mean girl” and if this was a movie, not one person would question her intentions. I’m confused why other reviewers thought it was vague and not addressed.

This was such a funny & cute story! Suzanne Park is a truly talented author and kept me entertained from beginning to end.

“I didn’t realize you were the bow-and-arrow type.”
“You think I’m more the Smith and Wesson type?”

Thank you author @suzannepark for sending me a finished copy & @netgalley @dreamscape_media for the audiobook! I alternated between reading the book physically & listening to narrator @joyosmanski bringing this hilarious novel to life.

This is a fun summer YA read that focuses on the dangers of social media obsession and the importance of finding a healthy screen-free balance in life. Perfect for young teens AND adults both. Sunny is a Korean-American 17 year old building her social media 'empire' and when a live brownie video goes viral for the wrong reasons she gets sent to an organic digital detox farm in Iowa to learn better habits. Lots of relevant issues for people finding it difficult to live in the present. This book also addresses micro-aggressions and prioritizing real life relationships over online ones. I loved the sweet romance that develops between Sunny and Theo (the young organic farmer), how Sunny helps the old age home residents learn how to use social media to stay connected to their families. It was also really great to see how supportive her traditional Korean parents were in accepting Sunny's life choices. Full of important messages this is a great book for anyone who has a hard time being present in their real life. I am #TeamSunny all the way and highly recommend this book! Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my advance listening copy that releases June 1st.

Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous by Suzanne Park is the story of Sunny, a social media influencer who went viral as a child and has again gone viral with an unintentional livestream. Her parents send her to a digital detox camp where she will spend the summer with no social media and only postcards as a means of connecting with her friends.

I thought this was a fun YA story, and I loved the spotlight it placed on social media and how easy it can be to become focused on likes, followers, and engagement. I thought that Sunny's character was immature at the beginning of the story, but I think the immaturity was likely consistent with the behavior of a teenager. I appreciated her growth over the course of the story and I loved the sweet romance subplot. Overall, I felt that the story was a sweet, easy read that was enjoyable and may be very relatable with a meaningful message for teens.

The audiobook was performed by Joy Osmanski who did a great job bringing the story to life. You may recognize her narration from Five Feet Apart or Head Over Heels. The audiobook of Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous runs for 8 hours and 22 minutes and it was an easy listen while I completed different tasks. I felt that the audio was extremely enjoyable. I would recommend this if you're looking for a light YA!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC of this title, which did not affect the contents of my voluntary review. All opinions are honest and my own.

This was fun & will be a great summer read. How can there not be when it's a book about a girl who gets sent to technology detox summer camp in Iowa? It's light-hearted, has some drama, some romance, and some shenanigans. That's the best kind of beach read.

One thing I really liked about the book was that it looked at & challenged biases & expectations. The idea that it's easy to assume what social media influencers or someone who works at a summer camp in Iowa might be like comes up & the book really shows that there is more to people that what we assume about them. Actually taking a step back can lead to new ways of seeing people and help form different connections. There is so much focus right now on recognizing and embracing our differences, which is absolutely important because those difference make us who we are, but I think with that, it can be forgotten that people who seemingly have nothing in common can actually share a lot with each other. This book really highlighted both sides of it very well, all while without being heavy in any way.

There were 2 things that were a little distracting to me:

1. The references to being from LA all the time. I get it. LA & Iowa are VERY different, but talking about being from LA all the time is just weird

2. I didn't really understand the need for the character of Raffa. There was a small thing that happened mentioned in the end, but it felt like kind of a side focus that I either would have like developed more or not had at all.

Overall though, I really enjoyed this & would definitely recommend it.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Suzanne Park for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, this book is adorable, and I have pre-ordered it. My review is for a Netgalley ARC. Sunny is sweet and through her time at a technology-detox camp learns to have more meaningful relationships. It's cute, it made me laugh, and Sunny's family made me tear up at the end. The plot is a little basic, but I think that fans of Kasie West or Sarah Dessen (especially 7th-8th graders) will love this book.

This was a fun book! I was worried it was gonna harp on the evils of technology, but I felt it didn't do that. Instead the camp helped the kids just find a better balance between social media and real life. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't perfect. The antagonist wasn't really developed and her reason for disliking Sunny isn't really elaborated on. The romance also isn't developed as much I'd like, but it was cute. The narrator did a good job of keeping me in the story and I enjoyed it!

This book was SO cute. Suzanne Parks is one of my favorite authors, so I was so excited to read her newest book. I am glad to say it did not disappoint!

This book was so relatable. Sunny is being sent to a digital detox camp for one month. There will be no phones or electronics allowed. I could easily see how relatable this would be for some people. We have become addicted to our phones and social media over time. I personally love doing digital detoxes as much as I can!

It was fun to see how Sunny was going to be able to handle being away from her phone. Will she survive and thrive from this? This book shows the important of cultivating real relationships. There is also some romance in this book. This is a fast paced read and is perfect for young adult and adult readers. I highly recommend checking it out!

I listened to the audiobook version and absolutely loved the narrator! I found the main character to be likable and fun, made even better by the awesome narration. I didn’t want to stop listening to this one and really enjoyed it!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audiobook copy of Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous!

First let me say the audiobook narrator was FANTASTIC! I hope they’ve narrated more books bc I loved their voice 😍

Second, this book is the cutest! Sunny is such a funny, sarcastic and awkward character that I felt I could totally relate to! Sunny is sent to a summer camp for “digital detox” after her #brownieporn video goes viral. Her parents see her social media use as more of an addiction so the camp, which doesn’t allow any electronics or internet, is their way of “fixing” sunny. Along the way, sunny makes friends and learns more about herself from her online persona. I also LOVED coach! In his sessions, no names were allowed only “friend” or “fellow human” (lolol)

Overall, if you need a light hearted and laugh out loud funny book, Sunny is ya girl! 😂😂

I listened to the audiobook version of this and loved every bit of it. This was a sweet story of a teen who ends up at a digital detox camp as a condition of remaining in her private high school. As expected, she does not want to do this, but the ensuing time at camp maybe teaches he a thing or two.

I loved reading this. Sunny is such a likable character. She is far from perfect and much of her internet fame comes from being a normal, awkward teen. The ensuing antics are all very believable and the encounters feel like they could happen to every single one of us. She is sweet and fun and I found myself rooting for her at every turn. This would make a good YA summer read.

Okay, this book is really funny and quite an adventure. I could barely put it down. I love the conversations in the book about addictions, prejudice, and the small farm industry, as well as the power of social media influencers. I also love the fact that at first, Sunny thinks all the kids at camp are a little overboard because she's not worried about her followers, and then she realizes how easy it would be to become them. The audiobook was good. The narrator had a good range in voice and tone to differentiate between characters.

This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. I will say I have been loving YA books lately, so I’m glad to have had this chance. The premise of this book was a unique read. I always wonder what the world of technology is doing to our younger generation that is so reliant on it. A digital detox camp sounds perfect for teens. Sunnys relationships built online & in the real world teach her many things in life. It developed beautifully to teach us which relationships matter most. Thank you Netgalley for the audiobook in exchange for my unbiased opinion

I really enjoyed this book! I loved how it really looked into how much kids and teens are using social media and how obsessed they become with likes. As someone who didn't grow up with social media, but as someone who uses it a lot now, it really does seem wild that these younger kids are using it so much that "digital detox" camps are even a thing. Like, I'm using Goodreads right now! I will post about this picture on Instagram and honestly, I will hope to get a lot of likes. But I do not enjoy spending all day everyday in front of a screen, or the tv constantly obsessed with my likes and comments and it kind of makes me sad that this does happen especially with kids that could really benefit from face to face conversations and friendships and playing outside. That being said, I really enjoyed what Sunny got out of this digital detox camp.
Sunny was a great character, I really liked how even though she did use social media a lot, she was very responsible about it. If she had sponsor posts to post, she would schedule them ahead of time to be posted during school hours and not actually post them at school (although she did get in trouble for this). It really meant a lot to her to fulfill her obligations. I also appreciated the fact that she didn't go to this camp and immediately everyone was her friend. She had a hard time making friends and ultimately came away with only a few friends. It felt much more real.
This was definitely a very light enjoyable read, perfect for the summer!

I think teens and adults alike will connect with this book. To some degree, many of us are addicted to our phones, social media, etc. and this charming book will make you wonder if you need digital-detox camp too.

I listened to the audio version and the narrator was fantastic. She brought to life all of the characters and I personally loved the older characters from the neighboring retirement community. They helped make this cute romance even cuter.

Besides it being a fun book with a city girl landing at a digital-detox farm in Iowa, the book brought to light the positive and negative impact social media can have and the importance of real connection/relationships with the people in our lives. It really is a great read!
