This book was not at all like I thought it would be - not even the same genre.
At first, I was a little iffy about the story. Like I said it wasn't what I expected but that didn't stop me from absolutely devouring this book - I could not put it down.
This is an amazing and well written book. It explores so many coming of age issues and yet lets the reader draw their own conclusion. There are no easy answers or hand holding in this book. It is 300 pages of teenage confusion but it's written in such a way that you aren't disappointed.
One big theme in this book is homosexuality or maybe more importantly sexuality. The main character is accused of being gay but he can't confirm or deny. Even to the end, he doesn't admit his feelings one way or another. I like this because it opens the doors for the reader to identify with the character. You can make assumptions based on your own situations.
It honestly explores how rumors can destroy a life and how doing the right thing is not always easy. Most importantly, it talks about living with the consequences
