I was disappointed, frustrated and bored with this audiobook. It’s very USA centric including the narrator which irritated me, some references and drug discussions were also US based. I found her passionate sermons on mysogyny, feminism and patriarchy too much; and the amount of space given for treatment rather than more practical day to day natural remedies such as food, vitamins etc frustrating. THIS BOOK! I cannot say enough about it and my admiration for Dr. Jen Gunter. This work has come at a very timely point in my life and I can say that there is very little information about Menopause for women and here we have been presented with an encyclopedia of information. Dr. Gunter presents facts and sorts through history and fiction with a friendly, easy to listen to tone. It felt like chatting with a friend, a friend who knows everything about a very important topic!

A few things stuck with me, one being that she is correct, there are a million books that are a right of passage for young ladies who enter puberty, but then a vacuum of books for women entering this next phase of life. Where are our fun tales? She is right, we don't all need to be relegated to a few tropes, mostly being 'out to pasture'.

It is glaringly obvious that I listened so carefully to her information because there is a lack of it in actual medical settings, this was a fountain of information.

I loved hearing the book read in Dr. Gunter's voice and being able to hear her caring and compassion as well as her anger and desire for change while listening to the audiobook. I was lucky to have both the physical book as well as the audiobook and I wish there was a site where people listening to the audio could see the phots and charts that accompany, as they would be missed. Having both was the perfect experience and I would recommend everyone add this book to their library!

ALL THE STARS!!

I was not notified when I was given access to this advance audio copy last year. I’d been hoping to review this book and then it fell off my radar. I’m so glad that I found this in my archived files. There is so much conflicting, and absent, information for women about menopause. It can be exhausting trying to find doctors who are knowledgeable and compassionate about this change of life. Thank you to Dr Jen Gunter for cutting to the chase and helping women figure out how to be their best menopausal advocates.

I could Cry!!!!! The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter Narrated by: Dr. Jennifer Gunter was a life line for me.
I am 51 and going through the menopause and and its has been a hard long road for me as I was born with some of my reproduction organs missing this is called MRKH. Trying to explain to your Doctor, etc that you never had a period and I couldn't have children But I am going through the menopause! I have all the symptoms!!!!

My GP looks at me and scratches their head! when I explain again! You can see it in their face saying........WTF!!! How can she go though this when she was born with some of her reproductive organs missing! Every time i went to see my GP and explain my symptoms again and they tell me i can't be going through it!!!! and so many times I have had to change my GP over the last 6 years.

So this audiobook was a lovely find. It put me at ease but a long audiobook. It took me ages to listen to it! lol

It was very informative from start to beginning. Even my hubby listened to most of it with me So he could understand what I am kind of going through! This audiobook - some of the medial profession should listen to, It does take about my condition but it tell you about the Menopause as it is!!!! Whether you have a Womb or no womb through a medical procedure, and with nearly every topic women in their 40s and 50s wonder about is covered here.
This audiobook covers hot flashes, insomnia, skin and hair changes, hair growing in other places, your weight, breast health,, Health maintenance screening, Depression and mood changes, Sex and libido and so much more.

Big Thank you to Kensington Books / Citadel via NetGalley for my audiobook copy for a honest view.

The Menopause Manifesto would be a perfect book for someone that has questions and concerns about entering the pre-menopause stages and questioning how they feel. Dr. Jen Gunter wrote a well researched book with excellent explanations anything and everything that could be occurring to you and some options to alleviate symptoms or make them more bearable. She thoroughly explained the what and why of the different stages of menopause. Dr. Gunter uses her humor and knowledge to reassure the readers that everything is normal and won't last forever.

I found several chapters helpful and informative to what I am going through right now. Some sections were very technical and didn't apply to me because I have past the curiosity and am in the know now. I wish I had this book several years ago because I definitely didn't know what was going on. People just don't talk about the stage in the lives enough even know it is perfectly natural.

Thank you Netgalley, Highbridge Audio, and Dr. Jen Gunter for allowing me to listen to this book for an honest review.

Every women need to read this book! It's practical and upbeat. I love her approach and the historical aspect. I found it incredibly informative and have hand sold it countless times. Women need to strive to learn more and have a greater ownership of our bodies and internal health

This book is packed with information...maybe to much information. I wasn't very interested in the history of menopause chapters. So I skipped a few chapters here and there. I wanted to find out what will be happening to my body. The info is in the book but you have to slog through a lot of needless info to get to it.

This was so informative. Listening to it made was enlightening and aggravating at the same time, not because of the book itself but after learning how women's health issues repeatedly get dismissed. Even if you're no one near the age for menopause, take a look at this one of Gunter's previous title, "The Vagina Bible" and I guarantee you will learn something. This is not the type of book to read straight through, it's set up with chapters on topics so you can skip around to the content that's most helpful to you and your life.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced audiobook copy of this title. I highly recommended Gunter’s book The Vaginal Bible to friends and family, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this title.. I admire the way Gunter is thorough in her research and knowledge of all things related to her practice. This book is your one - stop- shop for everything to do with menopause. A very good resource to have on hand and to share with girlfriends.

For me however this book missed the mark in some aspects. I really did not want a historical review of how patriarchal society views menopause and the ensuing metamorphosis leading to present day views. The first four chapters were essentially ones that I would have skipped if I had been reading this book. I do like that “The Bottom Line” summary of each chapter is available and the reader could easily skip to this section for information presented. I did dive right in and listened intently to the various topics presented in the following chapters. Sound scientific studies and various treatments discussed…exactly what I came for.. I closed the audiobook with a sense of empowerment and a greater understanding of the changes to come.

One further note about my rating. I don't think that the audiobook is the best format for such important information. I want to be able to flip through pages, earmark chapters, highlight words and mess up the margins with notes! I felt a little frustrated at not being able to do that with the audiobook, so if you are planning to purchase Gunter’s book, go straight for the hard copy!

If you have any questions about menopause this is the book for you. Thoroughly researched and easily understandable this provides information for all women about a topic that isn't discussed.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this must have audio book for all women, not just those that have reached the Menopause. The book is narrated by the author Dr. Jen Gunter which really makes this audio work well as she has so much passion about the whole topic that she really makes you listen. Common nyths are well and truly busted in this, at times hard hitting audio book. Dr. Jen Gunter certainly takes no prisoners and that is so refresahing. She tells it how it is and you finally get to know the truth about The Menopause. A must read for women of all ages and the men in their lives.

The Menopause Manifesto is a must-read for all women who are pre-menopausal, entering the menopausal period, or have recently gone through “the change.” So basically, women. Gunter gives authoritative information about all aspects of menopause. I listened to the audio, and it was a great listen, but I immediately ordered a print copy, for ease of going back and re-reading specific sections, as needed.

You don't have to be anywhere near your menopausal transition to find this book absolutely useful and at some points even entertaining. The audiobook has the added bonus of being narrated by the author - which I really enjoyed. She lost me, however, repeatedly when she discussed specific medications, various doses and gave detailed descriptions of hormones. I know, I know, the topic requires scientific language, but then again... sometimes I had the feeling that this book is meant for medical students or people with some medical background.

Thanks #netgallery for the early read. I enjoyed this book and the detailed, scientific information about menopause. I don't typically read scientific health books but the author presented this in an easy to read style.

In a sea of books about the "change of life" the Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter stood out for her holistic approach and feminist overtones. It began with a comprehensive journey through the history of the menopause before moving on to explore the medical aspects.

Menopause demystified...it is so much more than the absence of menses for at least 12 months. Dr. Gunter takes this time of transition in a woman's life and makes it plain. She supports her findings and recommendations with available research and humor(where appropriate). There is a lot of information to consume, therefore I recommend reading a chapter or two at a time to digest the information. Her calming voice keeps you engaged.. This book should be apart of every woman's arsenal.

Some takeaways that are important:
✔Menopause is not taught in sex education.
✔Obesity management is an under cared for medical condition.
✔One woman dies every minute from cardiovascular disease.

As a woman approaching the dreaded age of menopause, I was excited to listen to what I could expect. Dr. Gunter writes in textbook detail on what to expect. It was very difficult to follow and reads very dense in medical jargon. Perhaps my on-set brain fog couldn't comprehend. While women are shamed into believe that menopause means your life is over, it is not true. The way society speaks about this is degrading to women, because we certainly don't talk about men's balls shriveling up and how that affects how the world views them.

I got the basic information I was looking for, but I wish is was given to us cerebral challenged women (brainfog to blame) format.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #Citadel for the ARC.
