A fun story written for the wonderful Quick Reads initiative, a project that publishes short books, written simply, so that new readers can engage with stories from popular, best-selling authors. This one is unmistakably a delightful Katie Fforde title. There’s a girl, there’s a guy. And there’s another guy. “Ryan was her first proper boyfriend and Allie didn’t know how to dump him.” Loved that line! And since a cafe is an important part of the story, there are recipes too! Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this Quick Read.

#SavingtheDayQuickReads2021 #NetGalley. A delightful easy to read feel good story, in keeping with all of Katie FForde's novels, my only disappointment was that it was over too quickly!!

This quick read has an easy to follow plot and is written in a simple style. This would encourage people who are not avid readers to continue with the book and then try a bigger novel.

This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

A great short read to curl up with on a Winters day! I found myself walking alongside Allie as she steps out of her comfort zone as she makes life changes. Allie will take you into the kitchen as she learns to cook and you will find yourself tasting her bakes ! Now the books finished time to try the recipes! For those of you that enjoy baking and are looking for a short story to escape with then this is your book.

Lovely short story from Katie Fforde, loved the characters & the storyline. Only shame was that it was too short & left me wanting more!

3.5☆

Fairly basic plot and writing style. Cute, quick read - does what it says on the tin really.

This is the first novella that I have ever read and, honestly, I wasn’t sure if 90 pages would be enough to connect me to the characters, but somehow it was.

I was rooting for Allie right from the start, she reminded me of an old friend that you just want to see succeed.

I got the feel of Ryan straight away and just wanted Allie to run from him. Katie Fforde has a real talent in getting everyone to hate a character in under 30 pages!

Overall a fun, yet heart wrenching read and I am looking forward to reading more from Katie Fforde!

This is a short story that doesn’t go into much set-up of characters but has a simple plot that is easy to pick up and read quickly to promote reading.

Allie is fed up with her job and her selfish controlling boyfriend Ryan. One day on her way home from work she sees an advert in a Cafe for an assistant. All she needs to do is learn to cook and ditch Ryan.
Then Allie learns the Cafe is under threat of closure. She will need to draw on all her talents to help save it.
I love these quick reads. They give people a chance to give a new author a try and this hopefully opens up a whole new world for them. I already love Katie Fforde but if this was the first book of hers I read I would definitely look out for her others.
I would really like a follow up to know what happened to the characters, especially Allie. She is such a strong character.

I enjoyed this short story. You really get a feel for the characters even though you don’t spend much time with them! Well written, good plot, what more could you ask for? I think this would be an excellent way to get folks who don’t usually read to dip their toe into fiction. I definitely recommend. Thank you #netgalley

I read this in one sitting as I needed something easy and quick.

The story follows Allie whose life isn't quite going to plan with an awful relationship and a job she hates. With determination and help from a couple of new friends Allie turns her life around and begins to live her own dream.

I thought overall it was pleasant and life affirming. The writing style struck me as a bit young, possibly aimed at young adults or those coming into reading. Allie is a very relatable young woman but did read younger than 20 years old.

For such a short story I thought there was a lot of content covered and fits the brief of a light quick read.

A really sweet, heartwarming story!

I love the blossoming of the main character through nurture, confidence growing and food!

I read this in bed one drizzly Sunday morning - definitely recommend!

An easy to read, quick feelgood fix! I love Katie FForde books and this quick read was no exception. Allie is in an unhappy relationship, working in a job that makes her miserable and dreams of working in her local cafe. The story tells how she works hard to turn her life around and get her dream. This book is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon with a cup of hot chocolate. Delighful!

I love Katie Fforde books and the ethos of this reading scheme but sorry this one wasn't for me. It seemed to be either aimed at a YA audience or those who are learning to enjoy books again.

I love Katie Fforde books and was thrilled to get this quick read from NetGalley. I really liked Allie and hated her boyfriend Ryan and how he treated her. Allies determination to leave her supermarket job behind and go after her dream job in the cafe she loves plus get rid of Ryan had me cheering her on. Her cookery lessons with her lovely neighbour not only helps her but helps her dad too. A great little book and well worth five stars

Allie isn't very happy - her job at the supermarket sucks and honestly so does her boyfriend, Ryan. She needs a change but doesn't know where to start. Then one day she walks past the cafe she passes every day on her boring walk home and see's a small notice on the door advertising a cooking job. And she wants it. There's a happy energy in there and for some reason she's drawn to it. But when she learns the cafe is in danger of being closed, she knows she has to save the day or her dream is in danger of ending before it even starts.

I did not like Ryan. I actually hated him. And he definitely gave a somewhat sour twist on an otherwise lovely story. But, I definitely recognised the type of boy he was and felt for Allie all the way.

Cute, fluffy and sweet just like the treats Allie is learning to cook - this was a brilliant story about making changes and finding your happiness.

As ever Katie Fforde delivers. This is a quick read book, aimed at getting adults into, or back into reading. Allie is a young woman working in a supermarket, staying with a not-very-nice boyfriend out of habit and wanting more out of life. Through a neighbour she learns to bake and gets a job in a cafe and her life changes. You really warm to Allie and want her to do well. There are some excellent life lessons woven into the story, and we can all learn from Allie's experiences. A great story.

A charming quick read. There’s a lot packed in but it’s a thought provoking and engaging tale. Plenty of characters to like (and not like!). It’s an uplifting story which will o it a smile on your face. There’s an added bonus of recipes at the back which look great.

Thank you Netgalley.
