Ben Van Brunt is the grandchild of Katrina Van Tassel and Brom Bones, living in Sleepy Hollow years after the schoolmaster's mysterious disappearance. When the headless body of a young boy is found in the woods, the death blamed on the Headless Horseman, Ben is pulled into a horrific destiny that has been following his family for over a generation.

Beautifully and hauntingly written, Henry weaves together Washington Irving's original tale and her own follow-up seamlessly in a novel that is all at once heartbreaking, frightening and strangely hopeful.

I quite honestly couldn't put this book down. Christina Henry's writing is one of the few examples of fiction that actually sends chills up my spine (no joke!) Something about the way she writes gets under your skin and instills such a feeling of unease it sticks with you long after you've turned the page. I loved her narrator this time around and thought his internal conflicts (with his grandparents, his identity in town and to himself) were just as compelling and engaging as the external dangers around him.

5/5 - one of the best books I've read of hers in a long time. Definitely buying it when it comes out!

This was a great follow-up to the legend of the Headless Horseman. The characters were fun to read about years after the events of the original story. The new main character was funny, relevant, and brave.

A fun, engaging story that expands and examines the story behind The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The characters were great, and were fallible with needs and wants that for the main characters only made them more likable. Ben was a great character that grew to fill the enormous shoes of his legendary grandparents, and I was very happy with the ending he was given. I would recommend this to fans of classic retellings and folk horror.

I decided to give this one a try after all but unfortunately the writing style was just not for me. I have tried a couple of Christina Henry's other books but I have not liked all of the ones I've read and sadly this was another one I was not a fan of. It was definitely an interesting concept and I have not seen many other Sleepy Hollow retellings but the execution and writing style fell a little short for me. I also found myself feeling disconnected from the characters due to the writing style so I will likely not be trying another book from this author.

I have long been a fan of Sleepy Hollow, the inhabitants both real and … really scary, so I wasn’t sure how this would measure up.

Let me tell you, if you haven’t already pre-ordered… why not?! This creepy visit through Sleepy Hollow follows both characters you know, and ones that you’ll meet for the first time. I absolutely loved how Christina Henry has our main protagonist, the youthful Ben, hanging with the big boys of Sleepy Hollow … while remaining one tough chick. Loved that tweak! It’s adds so much to the character as well as the story. There are moments where you feel that th-thump, th-thump, th-thump of the horseman right on Ben’s (and your!) tail.

Highly recommend you pick this one up and enjoy a little terror filled walk through the woods in Sleepy Hollow… it is an adventure I am glad I went on!

Thank you so much to #NetGalley, #BerkleyPublishing, and the talented author Christina Henry for the electronic ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Love a good twist on a great story and as The Headless Horseman has always been a favorite I had to read this novel. It was excellent! This is the tale of what happened after Katrina, Brom, and poor Ichabod Crane. Ben is the granddaughter of Katrina and Brom. No-one knows whatever happened to Ichabod and Sleepy Hollow seems to be stuck in time. Ben is a likable and sympathetic character. The story is fast-paced and interesting. If you enjoy twisted dark tales you will enjoy this. Thank you Netgalley and Berkley publishing for the chance to read this wonderful tale.

Ain’t no rest for the wicked witch a.k.a me drowning in my own tbr screaming nonstop after reading this most intense, darkest, unique retelling of Sleepy Hollow! I think I will have nightmares about Horseman for a long time and disturb everyone with my painful night terrors!

Christina Henry knows how to scare the living daylights out of you! This is short, scary, tremendously spin tingling, blood freezing story! Please don’t read it at nighttime and if you don’t tend to wear adult diaper, never plan to start reading! The results can be so humiliating ( I know from the first-hand)

We’re returning back to Sleepy Hollow where is famous with Horseman’s tale is still haunting townies’ souls. Is it urban legend? Is it dark fairytale you tell your children before they go to sleep?

According to Brom Bones: Horseman is the one who chased Crane out of town. What happened to Crane? If Ben Van Brunt’s grandfather is telling the truth, Horseman might be still lurking around to chase his enemies out of town!

After 20 years later, Ben is 14 and he is still haunted with his grandfather’s stories he told about Horseman and finding a headless body of a child in the woods near the village makes him rethink the bloody Horseman’s existence!

This gory, jaw dropping, fast pacing story is truly worth to read in one sit and your longest loudest screams!

I highly recommend this to the genre lovers who are addicted to the real taste of blood freezing horror stories and all time favorite classics.
