Olive and Ginger is an adorable story about Olive the toad and Ginger the Cat. Reading this was therapeutic, and I can see how it'll help children to accept and love all the differences we have, as well as animals.

Olive and Ginger is a sweet children’s book that follows Olive the toad and Ginger the cat as they form an unlikely friendship. This book is broken up into three sections, telling different stories about the pairs time together. With a lot of text on each page this one would be a lovely story to read to younger children, or one for older children to explore on their own. The watercolour style illustrations were beautifully done.

The teacher in me is always looking for new books to add to my classroom library and this one is going straight on the list for my older readers.

That's it, that's the plot.
But hear me out.
This book was actually fantastic.

The stories were lovely, funny and they did a good job at depicting the friendhsip between two animals, the interest they developed towards each other's lives and their way of thinking, in the sense that at times it makes you think that maybe, just maybe, sometimes animals do try to come up with ideas that, to them, will explain what we, humans do and why. Which, judging by how my cat stares at me every time I talk, I can guarantee that it's true.

Another thing I would like to mention, is the illustrations that are out of this damn world and you can tell that they were made with watercolor and most likely by hand. It reminds me of some of the books I used to read as a child, it really gives it some old school value and its own unique beauty.

In my opinion, this is a book that kids will definitely love, and I think that adults will enjoy it too. It has it all, cute characters, story and illustrations and I think that it will also spark the need to explore nature and meet new animal friends as well!

Olive and Ginger is a lovely story with beautiful illustrations. I read it to my 4 year old son and we both enjoyed it.

This is a story about Ginger a cat that discovers a toad named Olive. They begin a discussion about themselves. Olive learns things about Ginger and Ginger learns about Olive. They discover things they have in common and things that are different about each other. The illustrations are interesting. In learning about the author, Xenia Mesot and coming from the Ukraine the illustrations were understandable. They were delightful. A sweet story about differences and how we are similar but can still get along.

This sweet and short childrens story is about the friendship between a cat and a toad. But it’s much more then that. It’s about embracing each others differences and celebrating them. It’s about acceptance and politeness and more. Lovable for all ages.
And the gorgeous illustrations makes the story a pure visual treat to behold.

I was not a big fan of this book. The pictures were great, but the story was not. I don’t think it flowed well at all, and I didn’t like the abrupt ending.

This was not my favorite children’s book. Some of the words were too advanced for young readers. I loved the pictures. They were very beautiful. I also liked the message about looking at things in a new way.

The story got my daughter asking questions about the animals and why cats eat mice, and toads dragonflies etc.

It is an engaging children's story although it felt almost robotic. But I dearly enjoyed the illustrations that were present in this book. Especially the third or so page with the cats printed across, would make a cute wallpaper. A quick and fun story.

I thought the delivery was a little too robotic. Children's books usually flow in a way this one simply did not. The illustrations are pretty but not sure the story would hold a child's attention.

I read this to both my girls and my seven year old liked it a lot. Miss 4 liked the pictures but it was slightly to long for her.

The language was quite mature for a children's book and at times felt a bit strange. I loved the illustrations a lot and felt like both characters had their own personalities which was nice.

I am not sure where the title comes from. No names are ever given in the book. Just toad and cat. An unlikely pair that become friends. I liked it but thought there should be some sort of conclusion. It just sort of ends. 3 short chapters of specific moments between the 2 friends. I think most kids would like it because its different and sort of fun to think of a cat and toad together. 3 stars from me.

What a cute book Olive and Ginger is. Olive and Ginger is a story of friendship between an unlikely pair-- a cat and a toad! Despite their differences, they form a friendship and do many activities together. Super cute book that all ages will enjoy! Putting on my list of books to give a gifts and at b a baby showers.

A very descriptive book with engaging images; this is a book for confident readers, it requires a good level of inference and is great for prompting discussion. The book made me smile many times as I read it, the shorter stories within it make it a nice sequence of shirt stories to read over time - as a class text or bedtime story perhaps.

The style of writing reminds me of sats/reading examination texts. It's grammatically well written, uses good vocabulary in a way that makes it approachable for children. It's a text that shows the importance of inference skills - knowing how cats sound when they sing for example!

Olive and Ginger are a toad and a cat that meet and become friends. Or rather, the cat meets the toad and expresses his interest to be the toad’s friend. The duo meets and talks about singing, humans, seasons, etc.
The book is divided into three chapters; teeny ones, each dealing with a different scene/ episode. The illustrations are cute but don’t take away from the story. That’s because the book has been formatted to highlight text and illustrations side by side.
The singing episode was fun to read. Overall, it is a cute little book for kiddos. Though I’m not sure if a 5+ kid can read such a long opening sentence and make sense of it in one go. It’d work better if the book was read out to the kids (I guess that’s the intention too).
