Let me start by saying that i love J P Pomare, and in this one i held so much hope.. The build of suspense is good and the characters are layered. My problem with this book is the ending, without giving anything away i hate when bad people get away with bad things.

4.5*
This novel takes our global love of AirBnB and uses it to play with our fears and explore the ways in which we leave ourselves vulnerable by inviting strangers into our homes. But the novel is about more than that, it's about secrets and what price we're prepared to pay to realise our desires.

The central characters of Lina and her husband Cain are likeable and believable in their flaws and weaknesses. The story richochets from one plot twist to another, so that without realising it you're turning the pages and an hour passes without notice. It's an engrossing read and, I confess, there were moments in this novel that had me thoroughly creeped out, which was very satisfying.

This was the second book by Pomare that I've read and I think this was better than Tell Me Lies. This was an advanced reading copy for me, and I went into the book knowing nothing more than the genre and an expectation based on the author's name. I recommend you dive in blind; to know any of the plot points is really to know too much.

For me this is just shy of a five star read because there are definite points in the resolution of the plot which I think are not quite believable, or not quite wrapped up. But don't let this stop you as these are small points and the story ride is worth it. For psychological suspense close to home, this one delivers nicely.

thank you to Hachette through Netgalley for this advanced copy! This book had me completely hooked the whole way through. I felt the storyline was quite unique and captured my attention throughout. This is my first J. P. Pomare so I wasn't sure what to expect. I loved the unique-to-New Zealand details scattered throughout. the description of Rotorua was brilliant. I liked that the characters all appeared somewhat untrustworthy, it allowed for a sense of who knows what could happen. I did find the reveal to be a bit obvious in some respects (the perpetrator), but it was also a bit confusing as to how the whole thing was pulled off and why. The inserts of text from the message boards were good, but also didn't add to the story. the relationship between the main characters was equally toxic from both sides which is interesting, as it's usually very one sided in these stories but I think it helps to make the book stand out. Regardless it was enjoyable and captivating, as cliché as it sounds I really couldn't put it down. I will definitely be ready his other work after this.

Talk about an entertaining and completely absorbing story! Just reading the disturbing prologue at the beginning gave me the heeby-jeebies and had me hooked right from the very first page! Let’s just say that some people do very, very bad things...

This fabulous book is a dark and twisty ride FULL of secrets! The scary part is how realistic the story feels because it really could happen to people (think hidden cameras in holiday rental houses... eeek!! That just freaks me out!!) The suspense was SO GOOD and the writing excellent!! I couldn’t wait to find out how the situation would end for Cain and Lina... and to say that the ending shocked me is an understatement. Like... wow, no words. What a great book! 😃

Thank you to Hachette Australia, the author & NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest review, I really enjoyed it!

Cain and Lina are struggling with money. When their close friends suggest using their lake house for luxury accomodation, the added income sounds too good to resist. Unfortunately, they soon find themselves caught up in a dark underworld of hidden cameras and internet voyeurs.

I was so excited to receive this ARC, I have a long history of devouring Pomare’s work and this one no different. I read this in a single night and I was unable to put it down. It was supremely creepy, with the right amount of twists and turns and I loved that the concept was so out there. Highly recommend!

Omg, this book😳... this will make me checking every corner of a place when I book airBNB next time.
Lina is a paramedic ambulance and her husband, Can is an ex-army who still had nightmare every now and then after his placement in Afghanistan. Their marriage is not perfect, Cain's job as personal training needs more clients to pay off their credit card debt.
Following their friend's suggestion, they put Lina's childhood home near Lake Tarawera into WeStay listing to get some extra money.
Thing gets more tense when Lina's one night stand didn't go into plan and connected with their WeStay listing disaster.
Can't put it down, it's another TBR list for all thriller lovers.

This just might be my favourite Pomare yet! The Last Guests had me on edge from the start and IT DID NOT LET UP.
Cain and Lina are struggling financially and after a dinner with friends decide to put the lake house Lina inherited from her grandparents up on the holiday rental site “WeStay” for a little extra cash. Unbeknownst to them a service called “peephole” that caters to online voyeurs have planters in the area putting secret surveillance in “WeStay” accommodations. Cain and Lina both have secrets, how far are they willing to go to keep them from each other?
The tension built in this book is deliciously relentless - I found myself torn between tearing through the pages and needing to put the book down to shake out the nerves.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

The Last Guests by J.P. Pomare is an unsettling psychological thriller based around Lina and Cain, a couple who put their lake house up for rent on WeStay. They don't realise that every move made in that house, along with other houses is being watched, not just by one person but by many.

I am a massive fan of JP Pomare's novels and this one did not disappoint! It was creepy and unsettling and throughout the book I had no idea who to trust! There were twists and turns that I did not see coming and after I finished it left me feeling nervous about how much of my life is vizible to the outside world.

100% recommend to anyone who loves thrillers!
