I don't know what it is, but I am digging these new books coming out that involve podcasts! This one focuses a little less on the podcast itself, however the podcast is a huge reason why everything happens the way that it happens, which I can appreciate. 

This book is twisty turny in the best way, and there is a lot more going on than just a podcast about a woman in jail for the murder of her abusive husband. Esme is in a turning point in her life - her son was injured over a year ago in a hit in run that was a catalyst for the demise of her marriage. And more recently, Esme's sister Michelle has disappeared, leaving Esme with a lot to juggle in her life, causing a meltdown that could change everything.

I kept trying to figure out why this book had so many different things going on, but they all coming together by the end, creating a really satisfying read. 

While Esme starts out as the type of person that lets everyone railroad her, she ends up in a really strong place despite the tragedies in her life. And I love that kind of growth  in a novel.

This book is the PERFECT beach read, and it'll leave you hooked until the very end.

If you haven't read a K.L. Slater book, you are missing out! Her latest book is just as good as the other two I have read! This story made you guess until the very end. Slater does a good job of keeping you guessing. Journalist Esme secures an interview for her podcast from Simone Fischer, the woman accused of killing her husband. When the interviews begin, Esme's life is turned upside down when her sister is found left for dead in the woods. Suddenly secrets begin to be revealed. I definitely recommend adding this book to your list.

As always Ms Slater is a master of psychological thrillers and this one is no exception. She maintains the suspense till the conclusion and completely changes our views on the characters.

K. L. Slater is the Midas of Mystery because every book she writes is solid gold. Once again, I was totally enthralled by this, her latest book. There are so many aspects to get one's mind in a turmoil. Firstly, there is Esme, a journalist recording a podcast about a female killer who is in jail for the murder of her husband, a controlling and abusive man. Esme discovers as the interviews with Simone proceed that her own life is not dissimilar to that of the woman in prison. Esme's estranged husband, Owen, is a selfish individual whose treatment of Esme is highly concerning. His mother is an unlikeable character too. Their young son who was injured years earlier in a hit and run accident resulting in life changing injuries is an added pressure in Esme's life. Esme's sister is found battered and dumped leaving her in a critical condition in intensive care. Is there a connection there? The podcasts about Simone reveal to Esme that there is more to the murder of the woman's husband than was at first thought. All of these situations result in twist after twist with one or two really shocking revelations that left me gasping. I can't recommend this book highly enough. A solid five stars from me. What a book! K.L. Slater did it again.
This is the story about two very strong and unique women. Esme and Simone seem to have very different lives but on a closer look they have a lot of things in common.
I really loved both of them! But first things first: Esme interviews Simone, who killed her husband, for her podcast. Things start to roll and while we experience Esme' s current live we also get to know Simone's past.
I do not want to spoil too much of the story. But there is a twist..... and what a twist it is! Never saw it comming.

K.L Slater is a master oh the physiological thriller. Well paced and kept me guessing throughout the plot.

This being the third book of K L Slater that I have read, I find a good degree of consistency in how she writes her crime – suspense stories. This one does not disappoint as well.

Esme is the central character of the story. She has recently started her own media company, and is hoping that her podcast series with Simone Fischer, who is in prison for killing her husband will help grow her company. She is separated from her husband, Owen, who has a habit of nitpicking what she does and is not very supportive of her ambitions. Her son Zachary was injured in a hit and run accident leaving him ineligible for pursuing certain sports activities.

As she hears more of Simone’s story, she realizes how emotional abuse builds up, exacting a heavy toll. Esme’s sister Michelle is also part of her company and does not turn up for a critical meeting one day surprisingly. She is found critically injured in a park after being assaulted and badly beaten. As she delves deeper, Esme finds that there have been goings on in the company without her knowledge.

The character development in the book is excellent. The incidents in Simone’s life especially are very revealing on how modern-day harassment & abuse can look like. The descriptions of Esme & Owen’s strained relationship make for very good reading as well.

This is a solid and honest story, with a slow build-up, and it sticks to the plot. The only drawback is the plot angle around Owen is weak in parts and actually dilutes somewhat an otherwise excellent story.

My rating: 4.25 / 5.

Really enjoyed this book. Kept me absorbed from start to finish, in fact I read it in 2 days. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a psychological tale. Than you for my arc would defiantly enjoy more like this.

This story will have you wondering from the first page to the last who is intertwined with who and why. Esme is a good mother who just wants what is best for her son but her soon to be ex husband Owen keeps trying to make her out to be the bad parent.
“He’d accused me of being a bad mother. He’d let me think, all this time, that there was a person, a monster out there, walking around, living their life getting away with what they did to our son. And all that time that person was...”
‘However,’ Lewis continued, looking straight at me. ‘Your husband’s DNA did match another historical sample on our system.’

This story focuses on Esme, a recently separated woman who has begun a podcast business with her sister, Michelle. Early on, Michelle is found critical beaten with a dire outlook. Between focusing on her podcast of prison interviews of Simone Fischer, charged with murder of her abusive husband, caring for her young. Son who had recently been injured in a hit and run car accident , and investigating the attack on her sister, Esme is overwhelmed and falling apart at the seems. Who can she trust with all of these people in her life being exposed as more vile than the next.
I enjoyed the writer taking us towards different avenues of suspects but the dialogue was at times forced and hard to believe and the players were all so yucky and rotten human beings, Esme is either the biggest victim ever or the worst chooser of associates!

Wow. Just wow.
Esme has started her own business - with her sister Michelle and good friends, Mo and Juliette.
Their first project- a podcast focusing on Simone Grant, a woman convicted of killing her husband of twenty years. After years of humiliation and verbal abuse, Simone allegedly snapped- brutally murdering her husband. But Simone has never talked about it. Until now with Esme.
Listening to Simone sheds some perspective on Esme's relationship with her husband, Owen. Separated for a few months, it's hard to tell Owen has moved out- he is always there.
Then Michelle disappears. Esme's life seems to be falling apart.
Great suspense. This story just sucks you in - so many questions. You just have to know. Highly recommend.

The format of this book is a bit confusing. Parts of it are set up like a Podcast and it mentions the name of the Podcast over and over again. Simone Fischer is 10 years into a life sentence for killing her abusive husband Grant Austin Fischer. She has never spoken about that day but now she is talking to Esme Fox on her Podcast. Grant was a controlling, manipulating and abusive man. Not at first but slowly over the years he isolated her from her friends and family. He made her believe that she didn't need her friends, her job, her book club. Her mum was afraid of Grant and he threatened her - forced her to tell Simone that she didn't need help. How did their 12-year old son Andrew not hear anything that day when Simone was supposed to have killed Grant? Why did she so willingly confess to the murder?

Esme has her own problems. She and her husband Owen Painter are separated. Owen spends a lot of time manipulating the terms that they agreed to in regards to visitation with his son. Her son Zachary had been a victim of a hit-and-run 18 months prior when he was only 7 years old. He suffered life altering injuries. The driver was never found. Then she reports her sister Michelle as missing. Police find her brutally beaten and she's in hospital on life support.

All these incidents end up being somehow related. The end of the book is shocking as to who knew what, and when they knew it. Everyone in the book faces a life that has been forever changed.

K. L. Slater has done it again! This book started slowly for me but soon grabbed my attention and sucked me in! I figured out one thing early on but was shocked by the other reveals. The book touches on murder, marriage, abuse, motherhood, siblings, life-work balance, and deception. There are a couple of mysteries in this book and that kept the pages turning as did Esme and her relationship with those in her life. Some of my favorite parts of the book were the podcast and interview sections.

Tense, gripping and captivating!

This was good. The storyline kept me interested. A couple of twists and I didn’t catch on to the final twist until right before it was revealed. The very beginning was a bit confusing when it was jumping back and forth between two timelines and the podcast transcripts, but once it began focusing on one time period, it was much easier to follow.

I’d give this 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) and would recommend it to others.

As usual another fantastic book by K.L Slater, I get so excited when I see that there is a new book for me to devour. This author has become one of my favourites and I have been telling all my book buddy friends about it. I was so connected to the characters in this book, it was a great story and I read this in one sitting on a weekend afternoon. Highly recommended. Absolutely loved this book , there were two stories happening at the same time . The female murderer in the prison and the media podcast authors story. The podcast author’s story ended up being the main one and it was so interesting the coercive control she realised was happening to her too . Really enjoy this as I do most from this author . 5 starts from me

K. L. Slater does it again! The Evidence is so clever in how the story is told through prison visits and podcast episodes - I absolutely raced through it. I loved how the book makes you question every relationship that is in Esme Fox's life and keeps you guessing throughout. I only wish I could download The Speaking Fox podcast!

So many twists in this that I didn't see coming.
Another fantastic book from this author.
Great all the way through makes you not want to put it down.
