Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I really enjoyed this book, fast paced and a page turner with a great storyline. Would recommend.

I don't know how someone can write a book more than once in a year and they are all good.I love the writing of this author, she creates mystery and suspense with short chapters. Now while I like this style of writing it keeps me going "just one more chapter" I enjoyed the storyline and the twists and turns. It was like a wriggly snake with all the red herrings. It wasn't my favourite book but that doesn't detract from it in anyway at all

I am always, always excited to receive a book by Slater to review. This one did not disappoint! The writing is incredible, the twists are always unexpected, and I am still thinking about the ending days later. Would definitely recommend!

Wow! Another fast paced thriller that caught me by surprise. Esme is the perfect journalist with an up and coming podcast. She has a son Zachary and a devoted sister who works for Esme. They are producing a podcast featuring jail interviews with a woman who was convicted of murdering her husband. She has never told her story and after 10 years in decides it’s time. The story is full of secrets, lies and betrayal as well as a cast of colorful characters. Bravo! A winner! #netgalley #theEvidence #KLSlater

This was a good book from K.L. Slater who is on my list of authors to watch. The Evidence is an entertaining story about a podcast host who is determined to share the story of a woman who killed her husband. But did she kill him or did something else happen? Esme is going to find out by interviewing Simone for her podcast. At the same time, Esme’s sister is beaten and left for dead, she is in critical care in the hospital. Who is out to get her? And is this related to Esme digging into a controversial crime?

Here are the details:

Everyone’s heard of Simone Fischer. The young mother accused of killing her husband in cold blood, one sunny afternoon, while their son played in the room next door.

So when journalist Esme secures an exclusive interview with her it feels like the opportunity of a lifetime. Simone has remained silent since her husband’s death but after a decade in prison, she is willing to talk to Esme. And Esme, recently freed from her own toxic marriage, is confident she can get Simone to open up.

At their first meeting, when Esme sees Simone sitting across the table from her in jeans and a lemon tunic top, she is stuck by her ordinariness. Then Simone begins to tell her story of an abusive relationship where she was a prisoner in her own home, and Esme decides that the truth needs to come out.

But not everyone is pleased that Esme is telling Simone’s story. And when Esme’s beloved sister is left for dead in a nearby wood, Esme’s life begins to unravel. Forced to question what Simone has told her, she can’t help but wonder if murder was the only way out of Simone’s marriage. Why has it taken Simone so long to tell the world the truth? And will the consequences be devastating for Esme?

This one comes out on July 1! Pre-order now.

K L Slater is one of my go to authors as she writes such good shocking stories! I did enjoy this book but I felt there was something missing, there was no major twist and everything was really quite predictable. The issue of coercive control was highlighted and written very well, also the mother in law from hell kept me entertained! What a horror! However, I did feel the book was a little underwhelming and fell short of my usual expectations from this author.

Holy mother of all twists! K.L. Slater is the master of thrilling twists. Her books keep getting better and better. Gaslighting is a form of domestic abuse that many authors use as their go-to storyline. Some are written well and some seem like the “same-old, same-old” story. Well I assure you.... this one will blow you away. Just when you think she reveals the truth behind who is guilty and who is innocent, Slater will prove you wrong by throwing another doozy of a twist at you. So far...this will be a summer read that’s hard to beat. Check out our full review at www.TwoGirlsandaBookObsession.com and follow us on our Must Read Book Recommendations FB page.

Slater did it again with all the twists and turns while pulling at your heart strings. This book really shows what a mother will do to protect her family while finding out the truth to a woman who murdered her husband in cold blood. 4/5 great!
Thanks NetGalley!

What a great read this was! This ranks up there as one of my favorites books for this year. Esme Fox has a podcast called The Speaking Fox and she is in the process of interviewing Simone Fischer who has been in prison for the past 10 years for killing her abusive husband. Esme's sister Michelle works for her and lives with her because Esma and her husband Owen have separated. One day, Michelle fails to show up for an important meeting and later the police find her severely beaten in a park. To add to the twists, Esme's son. Zachary, suffered severe injuries in a hit and run accident that is still unsolved. I loved this book with all its twists and turns!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this fantastic read that is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seat from start to finish.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Esme is a reporter with a new podcast working on an interview series with a woman that killed her husband after years of abuse. After the series started, her sister is beat so badly, she is unconscious in the ICU. Is the crime related to her new series? Who is responsible for this? I figured it out but only in the last couple of chapters. It was a good read! #theevidence #klslater #july2021

Wow. I was going to give this a 2* rating half way through, as I thought it dragged along a bit.... I'm glad I persevered. There isn't much to say without giving it away, but goodness, these people are just awful, and poor Esme. To say she had a run (a few runs) of really rotten luck is an understatement.
But she made it through, and all turned out okay-ish, barring a few dreadful shocks and losses. Really, this was quite an intense read, and I hope never to meet people like this in my life. But well-written and thought-provoking. A well-deserved 3.5* read.
Many thanks for my ARC.

KL Slater always writes great characters in excellent novels.

Esme is a journalist who secures an intervie with Simone, a woman who is in prison sentenced for murdering her husband. She is 10 years in to her sentence but is only ready to be interviewed now.

This novel was a little less than I was expected, usually KL Slater brings suspense, chills and thrills and this book fell a little short and maybe felt a little more predictable.

As ever it is still a good read.

I love every book I’ve read by K L Slater, but this one might be my favorite one yet! The Evidence is the perfect mix of mystery & family drama. I love the complex characters, the surprises & rabbit holes along the way, and the way the author chose to end the book. I’ll be telling everyone to read this one!

Simone Fischer is serving time in prison for the murder of her husband. She was convicted 10 years ago and has never spoken about what happened. Esme is a journalist who runs her own podcast company and Simone agrees to speak to her to finally give the truth behind her 20 year marriage. When Esmes sister is brutally attacked Esme wonders if the cases are linked in any way. Add to that she also cares for her son who was injured in a hit and run 2 years previous.
This book is almost 3 stories in one, we have Simones toxic marriage, Esmes story and her sisters attack, however the book is written so well that they all flow together really well. Another great book by K L Slater
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own

I usually enjoy Slater's reads for being a gripping thriller that is packed with twists and turns that leave you breathless. Sadly, there was something missing in this read, I found this very slow and was something of a slog to finish. I also thought this was missing the twists I have come to expect from Slater.
I did really enjoy the characters in this, they are intriguing people and it was hard to know their true intentions. They provided the twists of the read but they were not the kind of twists I was anticipating.

I absolutely adore KL Slater. I have read so many of her books, and they are always so engaging and fast paced.
I enjoyed this book, but I was slightly disappointed with the overall plot.
The book started out like a podcast, and looking in to a historic crime - I thought this was really unique and I was hooked. But the more the book went on, the more it steered away from the podcast and the historic crime, and more towards the life of the podcaster herself. This was fine, but I didn't find this plot as engaging as the plot involving the podcast and the woman in prison.

As always, I loved KL Slaters writing style, but I didn't find the plot as engaging as her other books. It's still a great read though!

Simone Fischer is serving a life sentence after brutally murdering her husband. She has maintained a strict silence about the harrowing incident, even refusing to speak at her trial. Ten years later, she has finally decided to break her silence and speak her truth to podcaster Esme Fox.

But why now after all this time?

While most people despise Simone for her actions (especially since her 12 year old son was in the next room while the murder took place), Esme believes she's innocent and was simply an abused woman who finally said "no more" and killed her husband in self defense.

Was the murder truly an act of self defense against an abusive husband or something much darker

I'm a huge fan Slater. In fact, I have all her books, and they're so twisty and unexpected.
Unfortunately, this is her least suspenseful novel and I found it pretty predictable. (And I've never predicted the end to any of her other novels).

That being said, it's still a great book full of heavy and sensitive issues that were dealt with in a masterful and empathetic way. This is an important novel regarding issues of domestic abuse and misogyny.
I enjoyed the interview/podcast format, which was made all the more powerful due to the strong and realistic voices of both Simone and Esme. They were characters full of emotion, and I became attached to them the more I read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As per usual, Bookouture brings us yet another great story.

I really enjoyed this thriller – it had me hooked from the first few pages. It was a well-written story and easy to follow.

As a fan of true crime podcasts, I really enjoyed the fact that part of the story telling was through a podcast.

There were plenty of twists throughout the story that kept me guessing.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the opportunity to review this ARC. This review and all opinions are my own.
