i love every book buy this author but i think her best yet so enjoyed , Esme has started her own business with her sister and an old friend and she gets the chance to do a pod cast with a convicted murderer Simone , who murdered her husband , Esme has split from her husband Owen they have a son Zach who was left for dead in a hit and run . as the story goes on Simone s husband was a bully and a controller and Esme starts to look at her own marriage .and then her sister has gone missing someone leaves her for dead wont say no more but very very good

K L Slater is very quickly becoming one of my favourite authors! I love her writing style, and the twists in her books are always amazing.

This thriller was fantastic, and had me hooked from the very start! I enjoyed the multiple POV's and really liked the storyline in general.

I definitely recommend this one if you like psychological thrillers.

The Queen of the twisty strikes again!! Simone Fischer is in HMP Bronzefield serving out her sentence for the murder of her abusive husband Grant. She has never spoken about him and public opinion about her is toxic especially on social media. However, she has agreed to break her silence and will speak to The Speaking Fox, Esme Fox, who runs a small podcast company in Nottingham. Esme is separated from husband Owen, they have a nine year old son Zach who suffered severe leg and hip injuries in a hit and run two years ago. The story is told via the podcasts, Esme and Justine who works for Esme.

This is a really good psychological thriller which keeps you engaged throughout. The basic premise is about control and manipulation and it cleverly shows via the starting point of Simone that it’s not just the male characters who are guilty of gaslighting and that some of the female characters are all about control too. The conversations with Simone about Grant are chilling and the power she hands over to him is huge. Some of what she says resonates with Esme about her ex husband. All the points of view are fascinating and Justine sheds light on Esme and you see the pressure she’s under especially with Zach's situation but the further you go into her point of view it becomes more puzzling and I like the unexpected plot twists here. None of the characters are especially likeable (except Zach) and Owen’s mother Brooke joins an ever growing list as she defines the mother in law from hell and you understand where Owen gets his personality from.

As you would expect the shocking rollercoaster plot twists sock you between the eyes and one is a particularly jaw thunking to the deck revelation. My initial reaction to that is NO, how is that even possible but then I realise I am applying a normal persons standards to my thinking!!! I predicted one twist from the start so it’s no huge surprise but it’s still good especially how it all comes to light. I like the format of the book, the premise is good, as is the pacing of the novel.

Overall, this is another winner from Kim Slater and I always enjoy being back in Nottingham!

first... let me say the cover leads you to believe this book is about one thing, when in actuality its a smaller part of the plot. Readers will enjoy the story, and it will leave you making predictions that, for me, were often times incorrect. There are some major plot twists, and I think readers will enjoy the book.

This. Book. Is. Amazing.
As soon as this came through as an ARC, I dropped everything and read it in two sittings. It’s addictive, it’s dark and twisty, it’s deceitful, you think you’ve worked out what’s going on and nope... twisty again. K.L Slater has such a talent for these psychological thrillers, clever writing and some seriously mucked up characters and she pulls it off every single time. Everyone needs to read this, and then go and read her other books.

I love this author so I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of the Evidence. Slater creates such elaborate characters that really make the whole story addictive.

I can see her through the glass door. She’s smaller in real life than I expected. She looks the exact opposite of the type of woman that might murder her husband.

Everyone’s heard of Simone Fischer. The young mother accused of killing her husband in cold blood, one sunny afternoon, while their son played in the room next door.

So when journalist Esme secures an exclusive interview with her it feels like the opportunity of a lifetime. Simone has remained silent since her husband’s death but after a decade in prison, she is willing to talk to Esme. And Esme, recently freed from her own toxic marriage, is confident she can get Simone to open up.

At their first meeting, when Esme sees Simone sitting across the table from her in jeans and a lemon tunic top, she is stuck by her ordinariness. Because her private life is a mess, and her in-laws are getting too much involved, life seems too hectic. When Esme's sister gets brutally attacked, and Esme's soon-to-be-ex-husband is spending the night in a police cell, things starts slowly unraveling, and Esme realizes most of her life, and most of the people around her are liars.

It's an interesting story with a couple of unexpected twists. I have learned to like books with a limited number of people in the storylines, because it keeps the package together, and I can focus on the plot instead of trying to remember who this and that person is. The book was well written, and the characters were just the right ones, and never did I miss out on anything while wondering who is this person. I think this is an underrated skill nowadays to write a book like this.

Even though Esme has a lot going on in her life, it is still a believable story, which makes it always a better book. There is a clear beginning, and a good ending, and after that (I presume), still waters. I did not have to read between the lines, guess, wonder what will happen etc. and that is another strength of Slater's writing. My review might be a bit more philosophical than a general review, but after I finished this book I started reflection on the more general side of fiction, and I realized how much I appreciate this style of writing.

Make no mistake, Kim is one of my favourite authors and I have loved every single one of her books. So I couldn’t wait to get into this one. I have to say I struggled a bit at first, I think because the narrative was a bit disjointed due to the transcript of the podcast. Once I got past that though I really got into it and loved it. It’s always hard to read stories of abuse, even fiction. Yet Kim writes so well and sensitively. Another cracker of a book, I don’t know how she does it! I can’t wait for more.

The Evidence begins with Esme of The Speaking Fox, a podcast company she’s recently started with her sister and a close group of colleagues. Esme is doing a crime podcast about Simone Fischer, a woman who’s been serving a long sentence for the murder of her husband. She’s never spoken to the media once in her 10 years of lock up until now.

What Esme discovers during this period of her life, not just with Simone, but with those closest to her, will leave you shocked and speechless. The story envelops so much more than what should simply be the start of a promising new career for Esme.

Her sister, Michelle, is attacked with no rhyme or reason, she’s struggling to deal with her invasive and wearisome soon to be ex husband, all while juggling her son’s complex emotions after being involved in a hit and run 18 months ago. Throw in an overbearing mother-in-law, a meddling colleague, and the police, and you’ve got a thriller on your hands!

The plot moves along steadily, making this a fairly quick read. It also keeps your attention, especially with all of the new details that slowly emerge. I especially enjoyed the podcast chapters with Simone! But beware; not everything and everyone are quite what they seem.

I love K.L Slater and this didn’t disappoint.
Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting.
There were plenty of twists throughout to keep me guessing, I’d definitely recommend it.

I have so many books I should be reading but I must admit whenever I get the chance to read a new book by K L Slater it goes to the top of my list.
When I first started reading this I found it didn’t grab me as quickly as her past books , but I soon became hooked .Having a free day and nice weather, for a change , I sat and read this in my garden , almost in one sitting.
Another well written and suspenseful book by .K L Slater who never disappoints.

I have thoroughly enjoyed KL Slater books and this newest one is no disappointment. With all the twists and turns it will have you mind boggled. The premise of it fascinates me & i enjoyed this book immensely. I highly recommend this book

Simone Fischer is in prison for killing her husband. 10 years on, she agrees to tell her story to Esme Fox. Esme, who runs her own media company, is happy to do a pod cast series on the same. While some people are not happy about a murderer being given another chance to tell her story, there is someone who wants the series and Esme to fail. While trying to make sense of her own failed marriage and bringing up 9 year old son, Zachary, Esme finds her world come to a halt when her sister disappears. Just when you think you have guessed what is happening, like Esme says, " and you never really know what the twists are until the end of the story"

The story is about marriages and the manipulation that exists in them. It talks about coersive control/gaslighting affects the people who are victims of it.

K L Slater is among my favourite authors and her books are so intriguing and take precedence over so many other things.

I liked The Evidence but Esme is one of the most boring characters I’ve ever met! It’s hard to see her as a tough podcaster when she can’t form the word “no”.
The character and situation didn’t really match up for me but the storyline was fantastic, I was desperately trying to figure it all out (and couldn’t!), wonderful twisty storytelling as always from K.L Slater. Recommended book! (And author!!)

I will start this review by saying that I am a HUGE K.L Slater fan. I have read them all and loved them all! The Evidence is now one of my top 3.

With The Evidence, you don't get a simple psychological thriller. You get THREE in one! With that, you get a crazy, action packed, wild ride!

Esme has just started begun a true crime podcast called The Speaking Fox that has, so far, proven to be a success. She is fairly newly separated from her husband but things are going well. Her son, who was injured in a hit and run, needs additional care so her sister, Michelle, came to the rescue and moved in to help Esme. So far, so good in Esme's world.

Esme begins her career with the investigation and interviewing of a woman, Simone Fischer, who has been incarcerated for killing her abusive husband and has never spoken to the press before. The only people she has left in her life are her over protective, greedy brother and her somewhat estranged son. Esme is determined to form a connection between Simone and the public as well as find out what truly happened the night of her husband's murder.

Due to her son's injuries from the hit and run, he is often up at night with pain. Esme is, at these times, tortured with the fact that there is someone out there free, living their life after causing lifelong disabilities for her young son. During one night, up with her son, two detectives show up at her door and tell her that her sister, Michelle, has been brutally attacked and is in a medically induced coma in the ICU. Esme can't fathom who would want to hurt her sister. Was this a random attack? Was her sister keeping secrets from her? As she begins her own investigation, she has to ask herself, more than once, can she really trust anyone, even those closest to her?

The Evidence is a true psychological thriller. It's characters are well developed and easy to relate to, I cheered Esme along throughout the entire book, this single mom of a disabled kiddo getting her life back on track and becoming a success.

There are turns and twists and then twists and turns, none of which I was able to guess before they were revealed. It was a true shock and awe book!

Pick this one up and prepare to stay up until the wee hours!

Did feel at times the bits of the Podcast slowed the momentum and distracted from the overall story. Esme and Zachary were victims on more than one level. There were many devious and obnoxious people in their lives.

Oh my goodness, another fantastic read as usual from this author, such a fast paced thriller, twists and turns with great characters I couldn't stop reading and I just loved every page.

Grabs you and holds you until you get to the end! Excellent mystery yarn with complex characters, past deeds and current mistakes clashing and leading to a solid resolution. Slater does a good job developing characters that are real and well thought out, flawed and strong, with tough decisions to be made. Will follow this one!

This book was suspenseful and heartbreaking all at once. I was truly surprised by the ending and there were many different stories going on, all equally as interesting and consuming. Would definitely recommend!
