Esme Fox makes podcasts. Her small company is just getting started but her chance to interview Simone Fischer- notorious for murdering her husband whilst her son was next door playing computer games could make all the difference. Midway through her sentence Simone decided she wanted to tell her story of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her controlling husband & has chosen Esme to be the one to get it out there. Esme desperately wants this to be a success. She has recently separated from her husband- who doesn't seem to understand they are finished. She struggles to help her son overcome his devastating injuries from a hit & run & relies a lot on her sister. Although the podcasts are a great success, many are strongly against her telling Simone's story. Is that why her sister ends up in ICU after a dreadful beating? Is that why her husband moves himself back into her home? And whatever did she do to deserve her horrific Mother in Law?

As always K.L. Slater weaves a captivating tale that require late night reading to find out the answers! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this great book.

In my quest for an amazing thriller, I knew K.L. Slater would not disappoint. I've read a few of her books and I've always enjoyed them.

In The Evidence, we meet Esme who is trying to find out who attacked her sister. On top of this, she has to deal with her arrogant husband, her meddling inlaws who are trying to take her son away from her and work on an important podcast interviewing a killer in jail in an effort to build her own company up.

Yes, there's a lot going on but the book wraps up nicely and I was not left disappointed. With the end of a chapter always making you want to read on, this is exactly the kind of fast paced thriller I love!

KIM TWISTALOT [nee Slater} IS BACK WITH A WHOPPER OF A PHENOMENAL READ!!!!!.
This latest book from the brilliant K.L Slater has got me through the worst two days of my life. I had the first Covid Vaccine at the weekend and it literally knocked me off my feet, I have never felt so Ill. So I got lost in The Evidence and OMFG what a twist filled read. I bloody well loved every page, every character and every single unexpected twist. I can't say how much I loved it because there are not enough words, if I could give it more than five stars then I definitely would. The protagonist Esme Fox is a great character and I really enjoyed getting to know her and her family. I really really hope Esme will be back in future books {hint hint}. The plot was original and consistent and even the worst characters came across as likeable. This brilliant book should be number one on the bestseller list and I am so looking forward to recommending it. I owe a huge thank you to Netgally and Bookouture for the ARC, I really appreciate it.

Esme is thrilled and excited that convicted murderer Simone Fischer has granted her access for an exclusive interview for her podcast. Simone has remained silent all these years as to why she killed her abusive husband and Esme is determined to get the full story and focus on something other than her dissolving marriage and son with disabilities from a hit and run accident. When her sister Michelle is brutally attacked and left for dead, Esme fears that she may have brought danger to her home. As she sees similarities between Simone's life with her own, she realizes that she may not really know the people she trusts the most.

This was a slow read for me which eventually got a lot more interesting as you see the resemblances between the two characters lives. Simone lives in an abusive and controlling life while doing her best to shelter her son. Esme is finally ready to put her toxic marriage with Owen behind and focus on her son's needs. Being busy and pulled in so many directions, she has no choice but to accept help and put her trust in others which ends up being her downfall. The book was a good read with revelations and secrets Esme didn't see coming. This is the second book I've read from this author and I look forward to reading many more.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

So many twists and turns your head spins. A great plot with well thought out characters. The story was well written and solid. For me, however I found it really long and drawn out. Very little happens in the first half of the book. I did enjoy the story line but feel it could have been condensed some or had some more active suspense. I also really struggled with what feels almost like a continuity error. The handkerchief with the DNA from the accident gave me pause. If they ran both DNA types and entered them into the system they would have been looking at both to separate them and it would have been clean that it was familial DNA. This is pretty standard, thusly making that large plot twist very improbable and it bothered me. I adore this author normally this just was not one of my favourite works

This was a solid psychological thriller- I liked the podcast format that was part of it. It wasn’t my favorite of slaters books. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

The Evidence by K.L. Slater was just a so-so read for me. Normally I love all of this author's work, but this storyline fell flat for me. The protagonist didn't come across as very appealing, I had a hard time relating to any of the characters. Not terribly suspenseful either. Regardless, thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy.

This novel was a gripping and compelling page-turner from start to finish. I've now read several books from this remarkable writer and knew I was going to need to read this one as well. Even if I hadn't come across this talented author before, the synopsis would have worked its tempting magic on me, anyway!

Simone Fischer is a young mother accused of killing her husband while their son played in the room next door and is serving her sentence at HMP Bronzefield in Ashfield, Middlesex. Esme Fox is a true-crime podcaster and journalist and she secures an exclusive interview with Simone. But it soon becomes apparent that not everyone is happy about Esme telling Simone's story...

This is an intense and intriguing tale that serves as a reminder that it is easy to justify someone's actions when we might sympathise with their motivation. There were so many questions requiring answers that I really did not want to put The Evidence down! The plot was clever and there were plenty of surprises I did not see coming with one, in particular, that was a real jaw-dropper. Very highly recommended so grab your copy.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

KL Slater is one of my favourite authors and her books never disappoint. I must say while I woke up early to finish it, I’m still thinking about it a few hours later and my only complaint is that I have finished it and now have to wait for the next book. I wish there was an option to give more than five stars

I am a big true crime fan, and though this is clearly fiction, I was definitely pulled in by the opporunity and task afforded to Esme. This is definitely something I would want to do, in her position. Therefore, Esme is immediately believable and relatable.

My favourite parts of the book were definitely the interview sections as this provided a fresh feel to the book and gave me lots to think about and ponder over.

There are some great twists and turns that kept me hooked after the build up at the start. The writer works hard to involve the reader in the drama and suspense, which raises lots of questions and makes this book difficult to put down.

Overall, this has been another superb psychological thriller from one of my favourite authors. I loved how layered this one was, with a few different plot points to explore, and the way the characters and themes really resonated with me.

Wow, I need to read the rest of her books. I could not stop reading.
Esme is a journalist and is coowner of her business, with her sister. Esme decides to go and speak to a prisoner, who is sentenced for killing her husband. She learns about Simone's marriage and what lead to her husband's death.
In Esme's life, her sister. Michelle, is missing and she is trying to get the police to help her find her sister. Esme's husband, who is estranged from her, is trying to creep his way back into her life. Seems he will use Michelle's missing to his advantage. Then his controlling, domineering mother shows up.
This books was full of twists and turns and had me on the edge of my seat while screaming no when the MIL wanted to move in to take care of Esme and her son.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC to review.

This was an AWESOME read!! I couldn't read it fast enough.
A great story about a true crime podcast and the players involved in it and about it plus the family surrounding the main protagonist.
The twists and turns in the book were unbelievable. It keep me wondering and guessing when the truth would come out until the very end. Just when i thought I had this story figured out. another curve ball gets thrown in.
This book is my fourth read from K.L. Slater and she has quick become one of my favorite Authors. i can't wait to sink my brain around all her other books.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the Author K. L. Slater for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

This was an absolutely brilliant psychological thriller. Yet again KL Slater has written an absolute belter of a book that had me totally gripped from the very beginning. The characters were all described so well and I just loved the way this author brings them all to life in her books. Every few chapters I kept changing your mind about who the guilty person was, that’s how well written this book was..

This is the first of this author's books I have read despite having seen them on the shelves in the shops and libraries regularly. While I looked forward to picking this book up to read each time I wouldn't say that it gripped me or had me thinking about the story while I was away from it.
The book starts with promise, Esme Fox is a journalist who has set up her own business recently and has hatched the concept of presenting a podcast exposing the truth behind the imprisonment of husband killer Simone Fischer. The convicted murderess has never broken her silence regarding the events which have seen her imprisoned for the last 10 years but has agreed to meet with Esme and disclose facts which could see her case reviewed by the courts. This potential blockbuster has obviously drawn the attention of the bigger media companies and one in particular is interested in joining forces with Esme's company which she runs her sister Michelle and a couple of close associates.
I had lots of hope for this book but sadly it fell short on several counts. Without giving away huge plot points I felt the story could have delved much deeper into most of the characters. The one which I really enjoyed the most though was Esme's mother in law who was such a devious madam she made me want to grab her off the pages and throw her out of the house myself. She was fabulous in her horridness and if only all the characters were as well developed as her this book would have been amazing.
Overall a good read but I was massively disappointed that it could have been so much more.
My thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to review this book via Netgalley.

Delighted to have been approved for this one, I really enjoy KL Slater books and this one proved no different.

Journalist Esme Fox has started a podcast called “Foxcatcher” and can’t quite believer her luck when she secures an interview with Simone Fischer a woman who murdered her husband and has never given an interview or spoke to anyone after her conviction. Esme herself has her own problems, she is newly separated from her husband and has a son with difficulties after been involved in a hit and run a few years previously, but thankfully Esme’s sister Michelle is there to help - until Michelle was assaulted and is left in a coma in hospital. Esme’s is hanging by a thread, her life is falling apart between work, her son and visiting Michelle in hospital that she lets her ex-husband Owen worm his way back in to her house followed swiftly by her awful mother in law! One by one, Esme uncovers awful secrets that the people closest to her have kept from her which sends her spiraling out of control.

Really recommend this as a page-turning thriller, where the story just builds and builds and the ending – wow!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I always get so excited when I get the new K.L. Slater book. The author has the way of developing characters and story lines that will keep you hooked.
Esme in this story is a relatable character. Separated from her husband and mum to her Zachary who was seriously injured in an accident a while back. All whilst trying to run a developing company and be the breadwinner.
Everything comes to a head when she is developing a pod cast series on convicted murderer Simone. As she interviews her I started to see parallels between the two women. Then Esme’s sister is seriously injured in a serious assault. Esme’s carefully ordered life starts to crumble.
I loved the development of this story. The only reason I didn’t give it full marks is because I felt the conclusion between Esme and Michelle was rushed. Would have liked that storyline to have been explored a little more.
However, anyone new to Kay Slater will certainly give it a 5 🌟 review, I am just comparing it to her other fantastic books.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to see an ARC.

Brilliantly written, packed with twists and suspense, and I loved the great balance of mystery and psychological thriller. The characters all felt very believable and jumped off the page.

I was happy to pick up the latest from K.L. Slater!

It turned out to be another quick page-turner, full of interesting characters and some surprising twists to keep the pages turning.

This time we have podcast episodes with the protagonist, Esme interviewing a woman named Simone, convicted of murdering her husband. As Esme "gets to know" Simone better, she notices some of Simone's statements seem to mirror her own life. Probably not a good thing!

Poor Esme has the in-laws from Hell! The MIL, Brooke who has a snooty manner, an opinion on everything, consistently fights temper tantrums to get her way. She is something else! She even washes dishes in fur-lined pink gloves! She might have been my favorite character to hate on.

Recommend to those who enjoy popcorn mystery/thrillers that will keep you entertained for those lazy days!
