I love the blocky art with it's thick lines and vibrant colors. The story of Barb is a good fantasy adventure with a quest, a scary villain, and some fun sidekicks. Silly enough to keep kids reading, but with a solid plot to support it.

Barb the Last Berzerker is a cute graphic novel for the younger side of middle grade. Our main character goes on an adventure and learns that not everything is as it seems. The illustrations are colorful and the story is fast-paced.

This is a fun read that I and my kids both enjoyed. Would recommend to anyone who likes fantasy/adventure graphic novels--kids and adults alike.

For the kids who love fantasy stories that aren't too serious, Barb the Last Barbarian is incredibly cute and funny. The art and the humor is a perfect fit for the kids who are really into Adventure Time and looking for a similar story. Barb herself, a small girl often underestimated for her tank abilities due to her size and age, is a charming heroine with her rag tag team of adventuring buddies she finds along the way after her primary team gets decimated by a somewhat forgettable villain.

This was a lot of fun! Barb lives in a world filled with magic and monsters, and runs with a gang of Zerks, berzerkers who protect the land from monsters. When her gang gets double-crossed by a disguised Witch Head while searching for the legendary Shadow Blade, Barb is the only one to escape, taking the sword with her. She must reach the Northern Zerks so she can bring back help to rescue her friends, and on her way she meets Porkchop, a yeti. The two initially are enemies, but neither really wants to hurt anyone, and after rescuing each other from a couple of jams, the two become friends. Together they set off to get help for Barb's friends, having adventures and forming new alliances along the way. Meanwhile, the Witch Head has evil plans to use her captives to get her sword back....
This was a fun adventure, with lots of action, laughs, and warm moments of friendship. Barb battles bullies and takes them down, but never finishes them off- she even saves one's life! The ending cliffhanger has Barb finding unexpected help in her quest to save her comrades. The art has a squiggly, kiddish vibe that goes well with the wild fun of the story, and the villain is creepy and campy in equal measure. Looking forward to the next book!

This book would be popular with fans of Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, & Dog Man. It introduces a world in which there is constant fighting between two groups & Barb is one of the barbarians trying to help keep the peace. Barb is often told to hang back so she doesn't get hurt, but she frequently comes in at the last minute to save the day. This could be a popular graphic novel with the children that are the intended reading group, but it will be unlikely to check out beyond that group. It is not a crossover graphic novel that will attract attention from new crowds. If your graphic novel shelf has extra room & you know the books I mentioned above are popular, buy it. If not it could be a back up purchase.

A fun, entertaining, adventure themed graphic novel about a young Berzerker on a quest to rescue her friends. Graphic novel fans will love this!

The description had me when it Said She-Ra meets Dog Man. If only it had lived up to that. The art lives up to it, but the story line is just so-so. Barb is small. She is constantly looked over by the other Berserkers who are big and full of muscle, and ready to fight. During a fight with Witch Head most of her warrior friends are captured and she must defeat them on her own with her trusty Shadow Blade. This is supposed to be a comedy, but it is too much comedy for the reader. I found myself rolling my eyes and wondering when it was going to end. No thank you.

I love graphic novels like this, that show something a little bit different. This was a fun, quick read, and recommended for anyone in your life who is into graphic novels - and as a tryout for those who think they aren't.

A young Berzerker warrior is on a mission to save her fellow warriors after a villain named Witch Head takes them captive. With the help of a Yeti named Pork Chop, and wielding the Shadow Blade that she took from Witch Head, Barb goes on a journey that changes her thinking: where she once fought monsters, she'll learn that monsters - including sausage-eating yetis - aren't all bad, and not all humans are good. She meets snot goblins, vampire goats, and a giant who's sensitive about his foot odor while calling on the power of the Shadow Blade to help her in battle. But the Shadow Blade's power is not something to be used lightly, and Barb may find that relying on it too much could hurt more than it could help. The first in a new series, Barb is chaotic and hilarious, with gross-out jokes and positive messages about independence and unlearning endemic bias. Readers will cheer for Barb and Pork Chop, who are a buddy movie waiting to happen. Dan & Jason are the creators behind the younger readers' series Blue, Barry, & Pancakes; visit their website to find out more about their graphic novels.

Thank you to TBR and Beyond Tours for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Whenever I agree to do a tour (or buddy read) for a middle grade book, I’m always a bit skeptical on whether or not it’s a good choice. I’m entering my late 20s and I’ve gotten to the point where my much-beloved YA novels are starting to not have the same shine they once did. Why should middle grade books be any different?

I am so happy that I keep being proven wrong. This book was an absolute hoot.

Barb the Last Berzerker is the story of a young Berzerker (Zerk for short) who finds herself tasked to save her loved one— alone. Thankfully, she befriends a (completely adorable) yeti monster named Pork Chop (😍) who teams up with Barb to help her on her quest. The majority of the graphic novel follows Barb and Pork Chop as they make their way to the North in search of allies, experiencing several episodes of hoodwinks and hijinks on the way.

Even as an adult, I found this book outrageously entertaining. I was laughing out loud by the second page, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with Barb, Pork Chop, and everyone else they ran into along the way. On top of that, the novel tackles several important moral lessons in its chapters. It is full of themes of friendship, loyalty, and compassion. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of graphic novels, middle grade books, and humor.

First off I would like to thank TBR Tours & Beyond for giving me a spot on the blog tour and to the Publishers and Dan and Jason for sending me a Netgalley Arc for me to read and review.

I am a great lover of Graphic Novels whether they are Adult, Young Adult or Middle Grade so when I saw the tour for Barb The Last Berzerker come up I knew I wanted to read that book. Barb The Last Berzeker is the first instalment of a Middle Grade Series but if you expecting someone like She-ra then think again. Barb isn't your usual heroine she is so laid back and also has the habit of doing the complete opposite to what she is meant to do. All Berzerkers hate Monsters but Barb has a best friend who is a Yeti called Porkchop. This is where the comic genius comes in what a name to call a monster who has a penchant for Sausages and yet this did not get me howling with laughter every time a certain character was mentioned. And that character goes by the name of Franny Flame Fingers. We even have a baddie who is so hamming it up it really makes the story very entertaining. Now lets talk about the art style which is loud and proud and suited the writing. I was really impressed by Dan and Jason and I already have pre-ordered the next instalment and can't wait to read it. This was a very good start as an introduction to Barb and for these reasons I am giving Barb The Last Berzerker 4 stars.

This book was so much fun!! Time flew by as I read this!

I loved Barb! She was an entertaining character to read and I loved her sidekick, Porkchop. A human trained to fight monsters and a yeti?! Iconic. The beginning was so powerful and shows readers the real power of the Shadow Blade. The humorous banters between the characters never got old and I can't wait for book 2! (Which has already been announced 🥳)

I loved the art style! It had so many unique elements! I fully recommend this book to anyone! Especially reluctant readers who enjoyed the movies Abominable and Small Foot.

I received this book from the publisher/TBR and Beyond Tours in exchange of an honest review~

So I am very sparse with doing reviews for blog tours, but this one I just couldn’t resist. A graphic novel? Check. Fantasy setting with a seemingly awesome character? Check. A quest? Check. And I am so happy I had the chance to read this book because I had so much fun!

In this book we meet BARB, sorry I just have to put it in caps because she is that awesome. Barb is one of the last berzerkers.. the rest has sadly been captured by an evil (well, ish) wizard who was sick and tired of things. But Barb is not afraid, she’s got a sword, and she is meeting all sorts of friends. Including friends that she shouldn’t be making, like Porkchop a yeti. Monsters are not supposed to be friends but I love that Barb was finding out that monsters aren’t so bad. I loved following Barb as she goes on quests, adventures, and finds warriors to help her with the evil wizard in Witch’s Head. Barb was a really great character and I love that, despite the very not happy situation, she keeps on going. I loved seeing her in Shadow Blade mode, she looked so cool there.

There was a moment of confusion as we went from her escaping Witch’s Head to having a friend, but thankfully the authors give us a backstory in a fun way! One that fills up all the gaps. I do have to say I was a bit worried if we would get it, I have read plenty of GN with stuff like this and we the readers should just fill that hole ourselves, so I am very happy that we got that backstory.

I was surprised to find out that this was the first book in the series! Generally comics and GNs have numbering if it is part of a series so I thought this would be a complete story, but in fact it ends with Barb heading to Witch’s Head with a ragtag team! I was a bit disappointed by that, but I am also happy that there is going to be more. I want to see Barb kick some more asses. XD

The art in this book was so fun and playful and fitted so well with the the story. Love love love it!

All in all, if you are in a book filled with monsters, quests, evil guys doing evil things, and a kick-ass little girl… be sure to check out Barb the Last Berzerker!

Fun graphic novel about being an unlikely hero. A little bit mystery, a little fantasy and a whole lot of action! Hand to readers who enjoyed Blue Berry and Pancakes, Dog Man, and Katie the Catsitter.

To be sure, kids will love the brave and unique character of Barb and will be anxiously awaiting the sequel.

Barb the Last Berzerker is a great graphic novel for elementary aged children. The bright, colorful illustrations keep your attention and the storyline shared some nice lessons. My 7-year-old could follow the plot easily and is already asking for the next book in the series!
*Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*

A wacky, fun, ridiculous farce, filled with weird characters and perfectly nonsensical illustrations. Loved the style of drawings, but the story fell pretty flat for me. My biggest issues was the type of language used which didn't bode well with me. Overall, an average, fun and food filled story that would do well with kids around 9 to 12 years old.

I received an electronic ARC from Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing through NetGalley.
Highly detailed artwork brings this story to life. Readers meet Barb right away as the Berzerkers fight monsters. They don't let her be part of the battle even though she wants to be. After they are tricked by a witch, Barb is the last one who is free. She sets out on a quest to get help. Along the way, she pairs with a Yeti and interacts with monsters of various kinds. The obvious theme of learning about each other comes through clearly. The story ends as a new quest begins. Readers get a hint of what will come in the epilogue. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Plenty of humor and action for middle grade readers. They will appreciate the body humor and the fight scenes.

"You're just a little kid."
"I'm a Berzerker, and protecting humans from monsters . . . is my DUTY!"

Despite her vow to destroy all things monstrous, little Barb discovers that there are a few monsters out there who might actually be kinda cool - like Porkchop the Yeti. Together they go on a quest filled with danger, treachery, and yummy sausages.

Recommended to all who have a 10-year-old child buried deep inside of them, and to actual, living, breathing children who enjoy silly action/adventure, and occasional gross humor.

This one releases September 28th. Thanks be to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this boffo sneak preview.
