My first novel by Kiersten Modglin was a pretty impressive story of dark secrets and lies.

Grace and Ryan are newlyweds and decide to take their belated honeymoon in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Ryan found the cabin and thought it would be the perfect private getaway with beautiful surroundings and woods, its own bar, a fully stocked, kitchen and a hot tub. They are enjoying their relaxing time together... until they spot a man camping in the forest. Then, strange things start to happen.

The plot unfolds at a steady pace and the story develops mostly via alternative chapters from Grace and Ryan. The characters are well-drawn and their perspectives gel to create a taut, cleverly woven, suspenseful story. The jaw-dropping ending was unexpected and I'm pleased to have read this mesmerising, nightmarish and claustrophobic novel. is very highly recommended and I will be looking out for more by Kiersten Modglin in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

I read another ARC from this author last month and I really wasn’t expecting to read another book from her so quickly lol! I then received an ARC of this book and made it my next read! The synopsis sounded exactly like my kind of read and was very intriguing, so I couldn’t wait to read it! After reading, I can say that I loved this book a lot! The plot developed at the perfect pace and it kept me wanting to read on and find out what was going to happen next! There was also the usual insane Kiersten Modglin twist that changed the plot and exposed the main characters! I was kind of able to work out some of the big twist, but I didn't expect it to be quite as big as it was lol! The twist allowed for some action and suspense! There was also quite a bit of romance in the plot, which I loved, and it added a lot to the plot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Grace was the main female character, and in this book was an anxious person and she worried about everything and over analysed situations! Grace’s secret then came out and it completely changed the plot and explained a lot! It also made me feel very sorry for her! I liked Grace, but I wasn't sure how to feel about her after discovering her secret because in a way I could understand why she felt the way she did, but I think she maybe went maybe a bit too far! Ryan was the main male character and husband of Grace! It was easy to see how much Ryan loved Grace and he wanted to be with her and keep her safe! Like Grace, Ryan was hiding a big secret in this book and I couldn't believe it when it was revealed! Ryan had changed though and what he had done had impacted him, but he tried to be a better person and learn from it! He was quite manipulative as well! I loved that this book was written from both Grace and Ryan’s point of views! I wasn’t sure if it was going to be because the synopsis makes it sound like it was only going to be written from the female character’s point of view! Ryan’s point of view added to the plot and it was interesting to go inside his head and see how he really felt about Grace! It allowed for a few secrets to come out as well and for the reader to find them out at the same time as the characters! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! The ending was left at the perfect place for the characters and it left it at a really good ending! It summed up the plot as well and all the questions raised were answered! I now can't wait to see what this author is going to release next! I always look forward to a book from her and I can't wait to check out her other books that I haven't read yet as well! I can't find any information on her next release, but I know it's going to be amazing! I also love the cover for this book a lot! It really suits the feel of the book and would draw me to the book if I didn't already know the author's name! The cover models suits the relationship between Grace and Ryan as well!

Just Married is a great psychological thriller with a lot of twists and turns. From the beginning of the book, I had no idea how the story was going to turn out, and I really enjoyed the separate story lines toward the end of the book. It made me want to reread the book to see if I could catch anything!

Mentions of physical abuse, so please consider that before you begin reading.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

“When someone holds your secret, they can either protect you or hurt you.”

This was my first book by Kiersten Modglin and definitely will not be my last (especially since I was gifted The Mother-in-Law🤗🖤). This book drew me in from the very first page. It was not what I expected but boy was it a wild ride. I did not expect the secret that Grace knew about Ryan. I enjoyed the characters a lot. The multiple twists were genius and kept me turning the pages. The one thing I just didn’t understand was the insane love between Grace and Ryan (I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it). Highly recommend this for thriller fans.

⚠️TW: murder, child abuse, domestic violence⚠️

This was a slow start book, the pace seemed slow. The plot was interesting but did not pull me in. I didn't like the characters or their relationship. It did not feel as if they were bonded together. There were many twists to the story and were pretty predictable.

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚
By Kiersten Modglin publication date - 5th July 2021

I have been following this lovely lady on Instagram for a while now and I was lucky enough to get to read and ARC from netgalley!

The story follows the story of Grace and Ryan who have only been married a short time and decide on a delayed honeymoon in a secluded cabin. It sounds perfect to them! But a couple strange things happen when they arrive at the cabin - enough to frighten them..::; who is doing these things?!

I absolutely loved this book. It certainly kept me guessing and normally good at figuring out the storylines lol! The twists that come in this book ....: I applaud you Kiersten - fabulous book!!

Wow yet again this author blew me away with her words. I’m now finding myself struggling to review this as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I will say the two main characters are very likeable.

Ryan and Grace go off on a late honeymoon. Their romantic break turns more sinister when mysterious things start happening.

This is another brilliant read that will play with your mind. The twists and turns kept on coming and I loved every minute of it.

I seriously can’t wait to see what is next for us from this author as this was a brilliant read.

Grace and Ryan are newlyweds who are going on a belated honeymoon. Ryan has found the perfect spot for them to be alone. A secluded cabin deep in the woods of Tennessee with nothing around for miles. Sounds perfect, if you aren't in a Kiersten Modglin book. The reader knows this trip isn't going to end well. As usual, Ms Modglin grabbed me from the first sentence. "Death has a smell". Add to that the fact that I am reading this at night, in my house with woods on one side on the Fourth of July with fireworks sounding like a war zone. Creepy! I hadn't read the book's blurb. I like to go in blank and discover it all myself. Grace and Ryan narrate alternate chapters. They are both flawed and unreliable narrators. Ryan married fairly late in life after dating for only 6 months. You sense he is deeply in love with Grace but maybe he wants different things. According to Grace, he has a secret that she knows. Grace had a hard life in foster care and seems a little withdrawn and nervous like she is keeping things to herself. So off they go to the mountains of Tennessee, way back in the woods, far from civilization, with no cell service.......Things begin to go wrong almost immediately, adding to this reader's sense of unease. I won't spoil the book but telling you these things so you can experience them yourself. Let's just say it would make a really creepy horror movie. In usual Modglin style the twists and turns keep coming. I was surprised and yet I wasn't. You just knew something like this was coming. It was just a matter of what and when. The ending was a surprise though. As a fan of Kiersten Modglin I was grateful to receive an early copy of this book through Netgalley and wish to thank them and the author. Ms Modglin has another hit on her hands. I love her books and can't wait to read more.

Ryan is surprising his new wife Grace on a belated honeymoon to a secluded cabin in the mountains. What starts out as a promising, fun trip soon becomes something entirely different when strange things start happening. As these encounters turn ominous and frightening, Ryan and Grace have no idea why they are being targeted. Are they pranks by local teens? Or has someone been waiting for their arrival?

Told from Ryan and Grace's POV's, I was guessing my way through the entire book. One knows the other's dark secret. But that person has a dark secret too. What will happen when both secrets are revealed? This book makes you believe one thing and then the author throws in a surprising twist that changes the whole outlook of what you just read. How is this the first book I've read from this author? I finished this page-turning book in one sitting. Great read and I'm looking forward to reading her other books.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Definitely an edge of your seat suspense thriller. I loved it! I actually felt Grace’s anxiety. I don’t know how Kiersten does it but every book just gets better. When you think you know what’s coming chances are very good that you’re wrong. I always thoughts a cabin in the woods would be a fun vacation, I’m not so sure anymore. Creepy good!

😲 Well I sure wasn't expecting that!! 😲

This author leaves me shocked at the end of each and every books, some more than others and this one was one of the more ones. I knew from reading the description that I was going to need to read the book but the description didn't do it justice, it's so much better that expected.

What was supposed to be a romantic late honeymoon turns into a nightmare of epic proportions but as secrets are revealed, Grace and Ryan discover things are not always as they seem.

First of all, this author really cranks them out with equal speed and quality. I had just read her newest release, The Missing, and then found out that Just Married was also going to be releasing soon. With how much I loved The Missing, I knew I had to read this too.

Just Married had everything I am looking for in a psychological thriller. Remote location, likeable characters, and twists that just kept coming. If your significant other suggests a remote cabin getaway, just say NO!

I loved Grace and Ryan. Sure, Ryan seemed a bit much. Obsessive. But, you could tell that he loved Grace more than anything and would do anything to keep her safe. Grace, nervous and filled with anxiety, seemingly very unsure of herself. Newlyweds wanting to finally take their honeymoon, but boy was that a mistake.

Both Grace and Ryan have secrets that they have worked very hard to stay hidden. But this cabin retreat brings out these secrets with Grace really showing us a different side to her that we didn't see throughout the story. This ending was the endings of all endings! I really would love a book two to see where life takes these two next.

I couldn't stop turning the page with this one, and finished it up within 24 hours. Modglin really is an expert in her craft. She is able to pull the reader in immediately and that grasp doesn't end until the very last page. I plan on working my way through Modglin's impressive backlist, she is one author to watch!

This is one of the most twisted, cleverly written books I've read in a long time! There are two POV - the wife and the husband and you cannot figure out what is coming next. There are secrets upon secrets which propel you forward at breakneck speed.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

Ryan and Grace are finally about to take their honeymoon. They have been married for six months now and they seem happy. Ryan has found a beautiful yet isolated cabin and the two of them should really enjoy one another. However, disturbing events begin occcuring in quick succession, but Ryan is rather reticent when it comes to going to the police.

This doesn't really surprise Grace. She knows about something that Ryan did years ago and it is a great secret. When it seems that their very lives are threatened could it be tied to what Ryan is hiding? Then there is the fact that they had run across a homeless man in the woods. Could that man be the source of their troubles? If so, will things get even worse and more dangerous?

At some point during the book the viewpoint begins to change. This is pivotal to an already thrilling book that has incredible tension. When this twist happened I was even more drawn into the chilling story. What was the connection? Who was creating problems for Ryan and Grace? Lies and secrets soon give way to nail-biting tension and a jaw-dropping conclusion.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for thsi ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

From the very first words, Kiersten Modglin takes us back into her world where everything is possible and reality is sometimes just a mirage. A new married couple, a romantic getaway in the woods. Everything to please and have a nice stay, right? Not when secrets come back to haunt you and make that stay dangerous. When the author tells you to open a light if you read this book at night, believe her. She succeeds in making us experience emotions at every turn and makes us shiver with fear and anticipation. Another great book to devour with the lights on and preferably not alone in a house in the woods! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book by this author, and I've seen a lot of hype over her books. I feel like it was well written, I love the way the story was told and the second part that explains the back story of everything. However, it fell a bit short for me. I agree with some other reviews that have said that some parts felt like they were from a silly scary movie, and there was a bit too much of the over the top love between the couple. I did guess the first twist, but it kept me wanting to read more to understand it better. I did not see the last twist coming which was a good way to tie it all together, but strange to me. This couple essentially is together to hold things against each other it feels like.

Ryan and Grace are a couple that seem picture perfect - so in love. They don't go on a honeymoon right after getting married, but months later decide to do a trip away just the two of them. Ryan books a cabin in the woods, secluded, so they can be alone. Grace is waiting to tell Ryan a big secret, she knows something that he did years ago. When they run into a man in the woods, Grace wants to go home but Ryan keeps insisting that she's overreacting. What is the secret ? Who is this man and what will he do ? Is Grace really overreacting ?
