Cross My Heart was a heart pounding book in the Kane & Alton series. This book was especially thrilling as it sees Jenna come face to face with a disturbing individual from her past. I loved that the book had so many twists, so much action and so much thrill. The number of red herrings in the book couldn't let me pinpoint as to who the perp was so the end was a surprise! The plot was brutal but interesting. There was a lot of blood involved but Black Rock Falls does attract the very depraved individuals. Statistically its near improbable but I read the books for the thrill and it delivers each and every time with each installment.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & D. K. Hood for the arc!

Kane and Alton thrillers are always a gripping and entertaining read, this one was no exception.
It's gripping, tense, and fast paced. We see the weaker side of the MCs and discover something more about them.
The dual timeline works well and the plot is well developed.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Jenna Alton's home is under attack and her life in danger. A killer from her past, a copycat or a coincidence? In the woods, couples are being hunted and murdered by a killer with a crossbow, again echoing a previous killing spree that Jenna investigated. But that killer is in prison...
Cross My Heart is the twelfth book to feature Alton and Kane. It does draw on events in previous books but there is enough content to understand what has happened in the past if you are not reading them in order.
Jenna seems much more vulnerable in this book. Kane has been physically weakened by events in the last book and this combined with the attack on her home makes her lose confidence. Once again Jenna is in the crosshairs of a killer's attention. This increases the tension as we wait to find out if the team can catch the killer before he attacks Jenna.
The majority of the book shows the police perspective but we also have chapters dedicated to the killer's viewpoint and his victims. This allows us to see the motivation and anticipate (or dread!) what might happen next.
As usual, the pace is relentless. However, it is the characters and their relationships which drive the plot along. Alton and Kane continue to have this intense friendship which teeters on attraction but they hold back due to their pasts. Jenna locks horns with lawyer Sam Cross again. The supporting police characters bolster the book by providing opportunities for the main characters to develop a personal and softer side.
Cross My Heart is another enthralling instalment to the Alton and Kane series.

A great police procedural where the duo were back along with the black hearted killers. I loved the author's writing that kept me engrossed in the story, linking the subplots seamlessly.

Whoop whoops back to Black Rock Falls, the notorious capital of all things serial killers and of course the other attractions e.g. Dave Kane & Aunt Betty’s Café, whats not to love…. Hard to believe this is book No. 12 in this series and each one as original as the first. This one is perfect to read around Halloween given during a thunder & lightning storm, Jenna is home alone when she hears banging at her door, someone has managed to override their security system, she flees to the purpose built panic room….. at this stage my heart was in my mouth for Jenna!

Jenna and Dave are called to the scene where a couple have been found mutilated with all the hallmarks of having been maimed initially by a cross bow, the MO of James Stone but he’s behind bars with zero contact with the outside world…. Another absolutely fantastic instalment, this one was unpredictable with several twists and turns along the way, it certainly got my adrenaline pumping, I was gripped from the word go and on the edge of seat throughout, hats off to D.K. Hood at nailing it again!

I don’t know how D.K Hood does it but this is book 12 and it is still such a great series. I love the main characters and I really enjoy getting to know them more with every book. They’re just so lovable. I mean they live in a terrifying town that attracts all the murderers but they fight crime so well.

This book starts with a bang and kept me hooked until the very end. As always, the murders are brutal and the hunt for the bad guy is full of twists and turns. Hood really knows how to set the scene and this was one tense and chilling read. Parts of it definitely gave me goosebumps. The suspense builds right to the end and I really wasn’t sure how or even if Jenna was going to get out of the mess. It really is a nail-biting read.

Definitely recommend for anyone looking to sink their teeth into a crime series with a lovable crime fighting team, gritty plot, and gory murders.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

This is the twelfth book in the series featuring Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. I don’t know anyone who would want to live in Blackwater Falls where they are as it as had more than its fair share of serial killers. It is nearly Halloween and Jenna is at home alone. She has gone to bed early as it is thunder and lightning but she is woken up by strange thumps. She soon realises that someone has managed to override her powerful security system. She flees to a secure room but not before she glimpses a man she thinks she recognises as James Stone. He is serving a life sentence in prison but had vowed he would find Jenna and destroy her for putting him there. Next day Jenna and Dave are called out to investigate the death in the woods of a man who was killed by a crossbow and left propped up by a tree. They realise that this has all the hallmarks of Stone’s killings and as more bodies are discovered they fear that it must be a copycat killer. Jenna is also convinced that a man is following and watching her and fears for her life. This is a gripping story with a nail biting conclusion. Another great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Cross my heart has to be the creepiest, darkest most chilling (and possibly best) installment of the series yet !!!!
It's Halloween season in Blackrock Falls and the scene for the book is set when Jennna, who is home alone while Kane is away out of town at a seminar, wakes up to the snarling tones of her cat Pumpkin and hears thumping noises ourltside her home in the middle of a 'dry storm' ....somebody is on her property and in order to do that they have bypassed her elaborate security system and disable her back up generator and with the power out the terrifying scene only gets worse when Jenna looks out of the window to see a flash of lightning show a tall black figure in an long coat and holding a crossbow pointed straight at her when she blinks it is gone !!!! When Deputy Kane arrives back he finds Jenna and Pumpkin holes up in the panic room!!!
After this couples go missing while hiking in the woods and the MO is the same ... (The crossbow) Jenna would suspect her nemesis James Stone but he is in jail and has no contact with the outside world .... Or has he???
I was completely hooked the whole way through and DK Hood set the scene SO well that the hairs were standing on the back of my neck whenever the dark figure appeared !!! Absolutely loved it !!!!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and DK Hood for the arc of Cross My Heart... my review is honest an unbiased.

If you enjoy crime thrillers with a serial killer, make sure you check this amazing book – and series – out!

In this latest story featuring Sheriff Jenna Alton and her Deputy David Kane the danger percolates through every page, keeping you on the edge of your seat ready to react to the unfolding deadly drama. An attack by a man armed with a crossbow on Jenna’s home shows someone with knowledge of her security measures and his aware that David was away – is threatening her again! When bodies start being discovered they fear a copycat killer is out for revenge as the original perpetrator is safely locked up and isolated in jail ….

This is a brilliant read, with great characters, packed with suspense and intrigue involved in an investigation where the tension continues to mount as a skilled manipulator reveals few clues and plenty of red herrings. It is a story which keeps you turning the pages, reluctant to let life make you put the book down for any reason. It is a fascinating addition to this fabulous series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I can’t wait to read more from this superb author!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Brilliant as ever, my absolute favourite series. Following the brutal death of one of a missing couple, Jenna and Kane make an arrest. Seemingly cut and dried, they can’t believe their luck.
Then a string of bizarre events, including an attack on Jenna while she is at home alone causes doubt.
Jenna is convinced she is being followed, and equally convinced that her old foe James Stone has something to do with the killings - but he’s in a maximum security prison having no contact with the outside world - right?
Another great thriller, right down to the last pages. Just sad I’ve finished it.

This one is still leaving me confused on which book it is referring too lol but I did enjoy it very much!!! I remember reading the first one and thinking how f****** up you have to be to hunt humans in the forest. I couldn't even imagine what Jenna and her team went through both times now. I'm glad the ending went the way that it did. I was at first skeptical of who it could be that was doing these killings. Another great book to the series !!

Was given this doc for an honest review.

The story grabs you from the very beginning and with Jenna having to fight off an intruder which makes Kane worried you know this story is going to be right along with the other ones. As it goes Jenna feels like the murders are like a case from the past but how can that be with that person locked up even after they go see him. You as the reader once again are taken on a journey with all of the characters even with the ones that are killed.
Set not only in the woods but also with Halloween this only sets the scenes for even spookier times. Of course, all of this adds to the story along with Jenna and Dave and the rest of the crew just keeps the story moving along, even Duke and going to the diner so Dave can get pie and also stock up on pie for his freezer. All of this while people are being murdered by someone with a crossbow.
When you finally get to the point where the author wants you the reader to be, he of course delivers all of the surprises for us but not after more suspense which is what we want anyway. A very good book once again and very much worth the read.
