Piper Huguley brings us the story of Althea and Jack. Althea left home to make it big in the Big Apple. After making partner and having her name on the wall, she is given a case that brings her back home. She finds Jack with her grandmother who claims to want to showcase her in his project about authentic Southern food. Althea fears that Jack will persuade her grandmother into giving him her famous recipes and warns him to leave her alone. Will Althea get past their prejudices and first impressions to see how much they have in common? Will they be able to see beyond what is on the surface?

Piper Huguley brings us these two individuals who may appear to be very different at first glance. Once we start getting to know them, we see that they are not that different. It was fun to see how they danced around each other from the beginning and how her grandmother fit into the mix. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for this privilege.

Piper Huguley is a new to me author. There were things I absolutely loved about this book, things I thought of in terms of "oh, come on!" and one thing that absolutely messed up the experience.
I'll start with what was awesome - the writing, the descriptions, the food, the stories of the past. If this had been a book about southern stories, I might have enjoyed in completely and it would have added to five stars.
What I thought "oh, come on!" about were the Hallmarky things - big corporate New Yorker finding her soul in the small town of her childhood, a grand gesture at 95% of the story and a couple of other clichees thrown in for good measure. Yeah. I guess we have about nine trillion of these stories until we'll be done with them.
The thing that ruined this as a romance for me was the complete lack of intimacy. This is not a closed door book, it's a 'nothing ever happens' book. I genuinely looked twice to see if this is supposed to be some sort of Christian or Amish romance. It didn't seem so. Apart from a couple of kisses and hand holding there's no indication that the h and H actually want each other. I admit to enjoying my romance books so steamy they border on erotica but I have an appreciation for tamer old school romances - I love LaVyrle Spencer and Catehrine Anderson and they are not exactly breaming with sex scenes. But there still is a little bit of that intimacy that, in my opinion, is why most of us read romances. All the small gestures, all the looks, all the stories shared lead to something more. Well, not here. At the end of the 34 chapters there's ... nothing. It was incredibly disappointing and anticlimactic. I gave this book 3 stars because everything but the romance was great. I will probably remember Ada, Sherry, the muscadine pie and the wonderful stories of the founders of Milford and put Tea and Jack out of my mind because their love story was just so incredibly bland.

Sweet Romance. Piper has written a lovely story of forgiveness, healing and love. I enjoyed she gave glimpses into characters from her Milford historical series. Sweet Tea leaves readers smiling and feeling good. Fellow readers, Ms. Huguley never disappoints. She writes to inform, engage and entertain readers. Sweet Tea does all of this and more. Outstanding job Ms. Huguley. Looking forward to your next release.

It is all in the name “Sweet Tea”. This book is refreshing, brisk, satisfying and sweet. Ms. Huguley has crafted a lovely and somewhat leisurely story featuring two people who appear to be diametrically different but share more commonalities than they can imagine. Fleeing her historic hometown of Milford, GA, Althea has craved a niche in the cutthroat world of law and is on the cusp of making partner in a prestigious law firm. She left behind her small hometown, her beloved grandmother and the ghosts of her parents. Jack has come to Milford as a part of his documentary about the dying art of African American cooking. Ada, Althea’s grandmother, is a renowned chef, working at the local HBCU. Each year, the college hosts a catered affair to raise money; Jack wants to be a part of this endeavor. Learning that her grandmother is sharing her knowledge and recipes with filmmaker, Jack Darwent, Althea heads reluctantly back to Milford. Here she will have an opportunity to determine Jack’s intentions and grapple with a case involving the rights to a sweet tea recipe. This book has so many layers and while it is a romance, it is also rich in historic content and the topics of family dynamics, loss and grief, as well as, living your own truth. Sweet Tea is one of the best books I have read this year!

A lovely story by Piper Huguley! This book is a great way to relax on a hot summer day. The characters are relatable and charming, the scene is adorable, the plot is interesting, and the banter is witty, This story has all the makings of a really sweet, traditional Hallmark.

This story of heading home after making it big. In the center is a Southern grandma whose cooking is USA wide known as is the family name. There's a Caucasian man whose filming a documentary and on the flip side a lawsuit over sweet tea recipe.

Some of the story felt very saviorish. I can see the book becoming a Hallmark movie. A one sitting read with some predictable parts.

Althea and Jack are very likeable and enjoyable characters.
She thinks Jack is trying to steal her grandmothes recipes.
But as time goes on the two start realize they have more in common than they think!
Despite Althea and Jack’s first impressions of one another, they discover they have more in common than they’d guessed…and even as they learn about one another’s pasts, they both see glimmers of a better future.
Such a good lighthearted book I couldn't help buy smile throughout this read!
