A young woman goes missing from a cruise ship and a mystery surrounds her death in this book, This Love Kills Me by A.B. Whelan. I do enjoy a missing persons story especially when something happens on a cruise ship and there’s a wealthy family involved.

Here’s what you need to know:

A family cruise. A murder. A mystery. Secrets and lies. Sex and betrayal.

Trusting her in-laws was her first mistake. Julia Rose, an acclaimed millionaire fantasy author, wife, and mother to a young boy, disappears on a family cruise. Did someone push her overboard? Or did she fall?

Three years after the incident, a beautiful young woman shows up in Manhattan, calling herself Annie Adams. With the help of Julia’s former attorney, Annie establishes herself as the new estate manager of the Rose family. But Annie didn’t take the job to make Julia’s widower richer. She is in the city to find out who tried to kill Julia and why, and make them pay.

When her dedication turns into obsession, Annie has to decide if she is willing to pay the high price for bringing justice.

This book veered into something I didn’t anticipate! Whew! It’s heavy and pretty intense! I wasn’t sure about the character of Annie, she was (to me) an unreliable narrator who I didn’t know if I could trust. Actually, I didn’t trust anyone in this book so I was definitely questioning everything.

This is out now!

DNF @ 50%.

The premise sounded interesting but when I started reading the whole thing seemed too far fetched to me. I couldn't connect with the story and didn't care enough about how it ended to continue on.

A binge-worthy read of a missing millionaire author and a friend obsessed with finding out the truth and bringing her justice from the author of 'As Sick as Our Secrets', '14 Days to Die', and "If I Had Two Lives'.

I really, really wanted to like this book. I loved both of Whelan's previous books but this one was just too much for me. The plot summary seemed really good; everyone is trying to find out if famed author Julia Rose committed suicide, had an accident....or if someone killed her by shoving her overboard on their annual cruise.

However, I felt like the book threw all its cards on the table in the first chapter. In what seemed like consecutive sentences it went from a believable murder mystery to a completely unbelievable plot: She's not dead! She survived the multi-story fall! Into cold water! Dolphins pulled her semi-conscious body to shore! But oh, no, it's not the US, it's Mexico! And not touristy Mexico, sex trafficking Mexico! And now she's part of the sex trade!.... but oh wait she died anyway. My head was spinning and I hadn't even finished the first 1/5th of the book.

I tried my best to suspend my disbelief about Julia's survival and her situation in Mexico hoping for a more realistic plot: maybe Annie found Julia's diary while she was on vacation in Mexico and is doing some armature sleuthing? But no, the Brooke/Annie plot was outrageously unrealistic as well. Brooke has the entire Rose house bugged with audio and video and none of the half dozen occupants ever notices? She's an attorney who has the time to watch the Roses all day? And- shocker- Annie falls for Tony...after playing Julia's voice at all hours of the morning to convince him Julia is haunting him?

I kept going. I love AB Whelan and the last two books were great so I kept going even though I was pretty done with it. I was hoping for some sort of viable resolution... but then not one but two of the Roses are thrown overboard on a cruise they went on (who would ever go on another cruise after their relative was thrown off of one anyway???) and one was recovered because the crew was in on the fact that someone would be thrown over but the second one, no, no one planned for THAT!

I still love Whelan, and I know the other books also required some suspension of disbelief but this one was just way, way too unbelievable for me. This book just killed me.

This Love Kills Me by A.B. Whelan started off with a bang! However, as I kept reading the feeling of anticipation wore away. The ending was lackluster.

Julia Rose, a wealthy, well-known author, mother, wife, disappeared during a family cruise. What happened to this woman? There are numerous people to point the finger at, and Annie Adams with the help of her friends are determined to find the truth, and make whoever is responsible pay.

Thank you to Netgalley and Burbank books for this ARC.

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this Domestic Psychological Thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Three years ago Julia Rose, a well-known author, disappears while on a family cruise. Did she fall overboard? Deliberately jumped? Was she pushed? Or has she faked her own death?

Annie Adams is working with Julia's former attorney and has become the new estate manager of the Rose family. But Annie has another agenda ...

And her agenda just might get her killed ....

Told in part by Annie, part with Julia's journal, bit by bit the reader discovers what happened to Julia .. and why.

She left behind a husband, a young son, and her in-laws, all who were on the cruise ship the night she disappeared. So what really happened?

There's plenty of action. a high level of suspense, and the mystery will keep you glued to the pages until the final conclusion .. when all is revealed. The characters are solidly drawn, but beware not everyone is who they seem to be. Obsession, Greed, Love, Toxic Relationships all play a part.

Julia Rose, a famous romance author fell to her death from a cruise ship she was on with her family. Three years have gone by and a woman known as Annie Adams is obsessed with proving that the husband, Tony Rose tried to murder his wife Julia that night. This was a very good suspenseful drama about obsession and revenge.

“This Love Kills Me”is not a typical psychological thriller. Told in the first person by Annie, assistant to lawyer Brooke, it is an investigation into the murder of Julia who was once a famous author until she fell over the side of a cruise ship. Annie and Brooke are trying to find out who pushed her overboard deliberately. Was it her husband Tony or one of the other members of his despicable family who had all been living off of Julia’s money which she was about to withdraw?
The added mystery is that Annie is a hooked on drugs and seems to have very low moral standards so why is she helping Brooke and even living as a guest in her house? The two would appear to have very little in common.
The book hooked me in straight away although it was strange having to rely on Annie for information as she seemed a rather unreliable character. Gradually more and more is revealed both about Annie herself and about Julia when extracts from her diary are shown.
There are a lot of distasteful characters in this book as well as some terrible happenings which include Annie’s past and how it coincided with Julia’s.
I knew that one of the family members would be shown to be the murderer so I wasn’t particularly surprised at the denouement. In fact apart from Tony, I found the rest of the family rather two dimensional and had little invested in them.
All in all this was a solid read which entertained me over the course of a few days and I would definitely read other books by this author if I came across them.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan of "This Love Kills me". It pulled me in at first, but then the dragging storyline, the repetitiveness of the main characters and the predictable ending turned me off. It wasn't the best book I've read, definitely not the worst, just not for me.

This is my first A.B. Whelan book and it definitely will not be my last!!!!!!!!!! Now i have to go back and read all of the previous books and stalk him/her on social media. I loved this story and this authors writing style of storytelling. I highly recommend this book

I feel really conflicted about This Love Kills Me. While I was instantly pulled into the main plotline, the backstory was really heavy and, at some points, graphic. It made me feel so sad that I almost stopped reading, but the positive reviews compelled me to finish the book. Unfortunately, the ending felt really underwhelming and a bit scattered. There weren't really any twists or big reveals. Even the very end of the book, which should have been extremely impactful, felt hasty.

What happened to Julia Rose?

With memorial services in the rear view mirror and the famous author’s estate settled, her body was never recovered. No one knows what happened the day Julia went overboard on a cruise ship.

This is a story of a friend’s obsessive desire for truth and justice. With a vast amount of money at stake, each family member stands to benefit from Julia’s death. Who is to blame, if anyone?

As the story unfolded, I enjoyed reading this but wouldn’t classify it as a typical thriller. Normally, there’s a sort of detachment so when the dead bodies appear, I’m not as moved by their plight as a reader.

There were no corpses in this until the very end plus I felt saddened by the circumstances of a few other characters. Kudos to the author for throwing me off my expectations and trying something new.

I felt the writing style was engaging and flowed smoothly so this was easily read - even with difficult subject matter. Trigger warnings for captivity and underage female sex slavery which may challenge a few readers.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Burbank Books for my electronic galley in advance of the June 1, 2021 publishing date.

I was immersed in this book from the very first page until the astonishing twisted ending !!! I could not stop reading even though i had so much stuff i needed to get done today . There is so many secrets, and so many suspects . I had to just keep reading.

The storyline was packed full of mystery, suspense, lies and was an excellent psychological thriller. Brilliantly written with twists and turns that keep you guessing right up until the jaw dropping ending .The characters are all very realistic and described so well I really felt that I got to know them all. When the story ended i felt like i lost my best friend. I am a avid psychological thriller reader and I can honestly say that A. B. Whelan has set the bar incredibly high for the others. Seriously one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time ❗The ending was absolutely perfect and I would LOVE to see this turned into a movie!!!! And PLEASE A. B. Whelan turn this into a series . I need so much more of these characters. 🙏🙏🙏Even though this was a new to me author , she has become one of my favorite authors . I can not wait to read all of her other books.

Millionaire fantasy writer, Julia Rose, disappears one night on a family cruise. Her disappearance is investigated by the police but no clear results are given as to what happened to her or whom is to blame. Three years later Annie Adams becomes the Roses' estate manager with the help of Julia's former attorney and friend, Brooke. Annie is out for revenge on Julia's behalf and begins her own investigation to find out who killed Julia. Was it her husband or another family member?

This was a wild ride of a story. An act of revenge and redemption at its finest. It was filled with mystery, greed, romance, and family drama. I have enjoyed A.B. Whelan's books in the past so I knew I was going to get a story that will stick with me. This one did just that.
