As with Lee Goldberg's last 10 books, I enjoyed Gated Prey very much, though the second case introduced (which took most of the focus of the book) was a little hard to read about for someone whose wife is currently pregnant. The other case was great, and I really enjoyed the characters Goldberg has created and their journeys, specifically the dynamic between Eve and her partner Duncan. It's too bad he's retiring. Now I'm really looking forward to Book 4, which I'm assuming might be a crossover Eve Ronin/Ian Ludlow book, considering Eve's getting into the TV business...? One can hope. Whatever it is, I'll be satisfied as long as Lee Goldberg keeps doing his thing. He's gotten very good at it.

I really enjoyed the third book in the Eve Ronin series even if it did feel a little rushed. Goldberg has created such likable characters in Eve and Duncan that I’m always willing to follow their trials and tribulations.

A solid third effort from Lee Goldberg.

I was eagerly awaiting this book in the Eve Ronin series and I was not disappointed. What a fast-paced thrill ride, interesting storyline, development of characters, and ending... that leaves me wanting more Eve! Some police procedural series take themselves way too seriously, overuse jargon, and generally fall flat. If you're looking for a series that isn't cozy or unnecessarily torturous, this is the series for you.

What a fun read!! #3 in the Eve Ronin Series has an engaging, action-filled plot from the very beginning. I loved how it combined police procedures with the rather interesting lifestyles of the rich. What should have been a simple sting operation ended up taking tragic twists and turns. The story then became even more complicated by a second plot regarding a baby that appears to have been stillborn.

Eve and Duncan make such a fabulous team! Eve is a rookie who is smart, resourceful, and has a strong work ethic. Duncan is older and is every bit as smart as Eve is. He is also about to retire and I will miss him in future books! I love how he gently guided Eve, with respect and humor.

This is the first book I've read in this series and I feel it can be read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend Gated Prey!!

This is the third book in the great series about Eve Ronin and her partner Duncan Pavone. And it is as good as the previous ones.

With this series by Goldberg, I have already got used to the fact that the seemingly simple cases that Eve and Duncan work on turn out to be in fact much more complicated, and therefore of course fascinating. And also this book will surprise you in a few moments, and the ending is very satisfying. I was having a lot of fun.

I like where the main characters are going and how they develop. While Eve doesn't have much experience as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective yet, she isn't naïve. She has a fairly good understanding of the rules governing departmental work and the motives that guide her superiors. She has no illusions that certain things only matter in the context of the image of the Sheriff's office and her superiors. I also like how Duncan supports her in all her decisions and that he truly is her mentor she can always count on. They make a remarkably interesting and surprisingly matched pair and do a great job in guiding us through this story.

The fetal abduction case that Eve and Duncan are working on is very interesting and unusual. I don't think I've come across anything like it in other books. It was for sure something new, and once you've read a number of books in this genre it's really hard to find something original and fresh. I really appreciate that. Though this topic can be a bit difficult for more sensitive readers as it deals with violence against a pregnant woman.

I have read the previous two books in this series, but it is really not necessary to enjoy this book. Although, of course, there is a certain part of the plot that directly continues the events of the previous books, so knowing what happened is more fun. Either way, I definitely recommend this book and the entire series. I am already waiting for the next book.

A fast-paced, quick-witted police procedural that is light on character development and on substance which makes it good for a few hours of mindless distraction, but not much more since the author never really moves beyond the stereotypic representation of a young hardworking female cop (the book's protagonist) who. is hated by a clique of corrupt officers. So while this book is entertaining, it is not something that the reader will remember more than 5 minutes after putting it down, as there is really nothing to dig your teeth into.

This book had some enticing action, but was a slow read otherwise, with some content that can only be described as filler. If this book wasn't as slowly-paced out, it would have been a much better read.

Eve Ronin is back on her next case - with his "on the door of retirement" partner, Duncan Pavone. This time they go undercover to catch the people behind a sting of robberies inside exclusive gated communities at Calabasas. Only things go a little sideways and ends up with three dead bodies. Eve feels that there are more to the case, including who is the actual leader and how they are easily come and go inside the community.

My opinion of this one is a little divided... on the mystery/police-procedural case, yes, I loved it. I admire Eve's tenacity to keep working because definitely, the case is not over with all the robbers dead. I am happy with the twists and turns that brings readers to the conclusion. On top of that, the author adds another case in the middle and it shows that Eve's way of thinking helps from a different perspective to solve it.

What makes me concern and weary, and rather disrupts my enjoyment is, well, the situation that Eve is facing. I don't know if I want Eve to change? But she definitely doesn't make friends in the department. She challenges things, and brings down another power player.

On one hand, I think it shows that inside a police department things can be very toxic. But on the other hand, it makes the series will always be Eve vs. Everybody else (except for Duncan, who keeps saying that he will leave within three months anyway). It's quite tiresome especially it's book #3 already.

I'm still rounding it up to my 4-stars category. But I hope the author makes a new progress with Eve and her colleagues. Or one day, Eve really will just be either fired or dead because nobody within the police force is willing to help her out of resentment.

I'm new to Goldberg's books and I have quickly gotten hooked on this series. Quick pace, strong characters, and a nice balance between Eve and Duncan. Although I saw a couple of the twists coming, it was nothing that took away from the suspense and there were plenty of plot revelations/twists that I didn't guess. I will continue to read further books in the Eve Ronin series as well as look into some of Goldberg's other books.

Detective Eve Ronin is back! Eve and her soon-to-be-retired father-figure partner Duncan investigate a burglary ring in a ritzy Los Angeles neighborhood and a gruesome fetal abduction case in the same development. Eve is still considered a rookie who doesn’t deserve to be where she is in the department, but she continues to prove herself by putting all the pieces together on her own by following her gut instincts and natural talents despite what everyone else might think.

Lee Goldberg has worked on many tv shows, including Murder, She Wrote and Monk, so his books tend to play out like a TV show, which I personally enjoy a lot. The story is fast-paced, the dialog is funny, and the characters are relatable. Looking forward to Book 4!

Interesting premise, burglars targeting homeowners in gated communities, with a side story about fetal infanticide. It was a bit difficult to see a connection between the two stories, but the shocking twist towards the end tied it all together.

Another reviewer on Goodreads lamented the author’s rehashing of things that happened in the previous two stories, but as one who did not read those stories, I appreciated that detail.

Downsides in the book were the preponderance of references to food, especially with regard to the character Duncan Pavone, and the references to Eve’s provocative clothing early in the story, but the strength of the overall plot made up for it.

I didn't realize that Gated Prey was one of a series of books until I finished it. It works well as a stand-alone read but for fans of the heroine, it will be an exciting addition to the exploits of the talented female detective, Eve. Eve encounters home invasions in a gated community in upper-class communities in this latest installment. Her soon-to-be-retired partner joins her as they become entangled in all the twists and turns that will help solve this mystery. In addition, while working to solve these crimes the two investigate the death of a newborn in the same community and add it to the crimes they are working on. How the heroine untangles the mysteries of the wealthy and the crimes they are surrounded by makes for an entertaining read. There is no doubt that Eve is a natural at her job and at solving mysteries, just not at relating to other cops in her town. Great installment in the Eve Ronin series. This is book 3, and likely my favorite so far. This book was very fast paced. I finished it in a day, and am already anxious for the next one! Eve is definitely going through some things in this one in terms of various consequences from previous situations, including physical and mental health, money, and her own experience. The relationship she has with Duncan is a huge shining light in this series, and the mentor ship he provides is so fun to read - keep drawing his retirement out! The plot was interesting if a little heavy. I like the various other characters and relationships, especially the people Eve can actually count on. Highly recommend for a fast, satisfying read.

Gated Prey by Lee Goldberg Fast paced, page turner with reliable characters and a twist in solving of both of the crimes. Like watching a favorite TV series, Eve and Duncan are working better as a team. Duncan's off the wall the comments lighten the tension with a dose of humor. Eve just keeps going and going until the crimes are solved. Can't wait to see what is in store for Eve and Duncan next.

This series is a guilty little pleasure of mine. Lee Goldberg knows how to spin a good yarn, and the latest Eve Ronin is no exception. Eve is still battling for acceptance after her meteoric promotion to homocide detective in the LASD, and still hasn’t learned to play nice to make friends., which explains her latest predicament. Great whirlwind of a story that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

I have really become invested in the characters, especially Duncan, and love how they develop by this third book. I also enjoy the book gets right to the point and jumps in. I will continue to read this author, and hope for another Ronin book soon!
