I decided to read this book because I had already read the first two in the series. I hoped it would be more like book one, which was exciting and focused more on the case than on Eve's continuing battle with her colleagues in the sheriff's department. However, I was disappointed that it was more like book two. Instead of diving deep into the case, which involves a series of robberies in gated communities, the book insists on reminding the reader of how much Eve is despised by her co-workers because of events that occurred in the previous book. I just couldn't take it after a while. There is an interesting twist in the actual case near the end of the book but the rest of the story is overshadowed by the Eve versus the department storyline. I would not recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

A simple sting operation takes a violent and unexpected turn for Detective Eve Ronin in a gripping thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective Eve Ronin and her soon-to-retire partner, Duncan Pavone, are running a 24-7 sting in a guard-gated enclave of palatial homes in Calabasas. Their luxury McMansion is a honey trap, set to lure in the violent home invaders terrorizing the community. The trap works, leaving three intruders dead, a body count that nearly includes Eve and Duncan.

Eve’s bosses are eager to declare the case closed, but there are too many unanswered questions for her to let go. Was the trap actually for her, bloody payback for Eve’s very public takedown of a clique of corrupt deputies? Or is there an even deadlier secret lurking behind those opulent gates? Eve’s refusal to back down and her relentless quest for the truth makes her both the hunter…and the prey.

Such a funny book. What fun Eve and Duncan are. Always trying to do the right thing, yet somehow things are not working. Duncan is to retire in two weeks if he makes it. I guess, this book is a series and even without knowing the before was fun,

I've just finished reading the aptly named Gated Prey by Lee Goldberg, the 3rd in the Eve Ronin series. Thanks to Netgalley for the advance digital copy. This is my honest review.
Each in the series has enough background info included to allow for stand alone reading, but why would you?
This time Eve, and her soon to be retired partner, Duncan, is undercover to catch a gang of home invaders. while continuing to be resented & undermined by fellow officers. The suspense builds as Eve investigates the death of a newborn baby in the same gated community.
The "Hollywood" atmosphere continues in the Calabasas, CA setting outside LA. This installment was even better with both new and old supporting cast, familiar family drama, politics within the Sheriffs department, and plenty of fast paced detective work. This series is easy to read & has humor while still addressing current issues. Eve is a strong, driven female detective & I hope there will be 4th book.

Gated Prey by Lee Goldberg is the third entry in his Eve Ronin series, featuring a detective in the LA County Sheriff’s Office who lives and works in the area of Calabasas, CA. The location is important in these novels as the author sets up the place and attitude (think “Hollywood” types and money) that are as integral to law enforcement’s job, as enforcing said laws.

In this book Eve is involved in a couple of circumstances, which at the outset have little to do with one another except that they occur within a gated community. The first has her, and her soon to retire partner, Duncan, going under cover to capture a home invasion team. The second involves the apparent premature death of a still born child in another home.

Power differentials continue to be a part of this novel; Eve as a female is only one of these. In the first book of the series, she began a reputation due to being caught on camera in a heroic act. She now has an agent, and Hollywood is beckoning her to become involved in a project written around her story. These all help to bring tension to the story and help to illustrate her love of her law enforcement career, as she continues to do her job, with tenacity, despite the figurative siren call to leave.

Though I liked this installment very much; as the other Eve Ronin’s books this one satisfies with twists, surprises, and fulfilling conclusion, this one might be challenging as a first read in the series, as events from the previous novel carry over into this one. Regardless, whether you read the books in order, or not, I expect if you love mysteries and police procedurals (or Goldberg’s other books) you will enjoy Gated Prey.

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Eve Ronin novel. She’s an impassioned yet practical heroine who’s very easy to root for. I loved the way the two main plots interconnected, and the ultimate bad guy was a total surprise to me, in a good way. A very fresh twist. I read this in two days and got totally wrapped up in it!

Lee Goldberg’s latest book, Gated Prey, is a thrilling read full of action, twists and turns. This is the third novel starring Eve Ronin. Even thought this is the first novel by Goldberg that I have read I had no problems jumping in and following along. The parts that I enjoyed the most were the interactions between Eve and her partner Duncan. Duncan Pavone which were full of good insight, whit and just the right amount of comedy. I hope that these two are able to partner up again in the future.

Eve Ronin, the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department returns in "Gated Prey." Fiercely relentless in her pursuit of justice, she is loathed by most of her fellow deputies, who consider her a headlines-seeking-bitch and worse, a rat. Their collective anger puts Eve’s and her soon-to-be-retired partner, Duncan Pavone, lives at risk, when the officer on duty fails to send back-up to support a take-down when a home invasion sting operation turns deadly. But one crime leads to another in this exclusive, otherwise quiet, gated Calabasas community. One so horrific, that Eve will stop at nothing to get justice for the grieving family.

"Gated Prey," the third book in the Eve Ronin series, is a non-stop, action-packed, witty page-turner. It’s the perfect book to sit down with for a perfectly enjoyable thrill ride on a lazy afternoon..

Books 3 in the Eve Ronin series does not disappoint.
Eve and her partner Duncan are posing as a couple in a undercover assignment to flush out those involved in home invasions. The homes targeted are within gated communities so how are these guys getting in and out of the communities undetected with arm loads of stolen goods? Now they need back up but where is it?

The department is still full of officers who are not happy that Eve had previously made detective and continue to show that she may be alone when she most needs help.

The detectives are also involved in a second more disturbing case. As they follow the leads and search for answers the mystery continues to unravel.

The Eve Ronin series continues to captivate and each one seems even better then the last.

You don't want to miss this.

I could not put this book down. It was a true page turner. Eve Ronin again tackles, not one, but two cases in an exciting and timely manner..Living in Calabasas, the auhor got all the details perfectly right. I thought I figured out the relationship between the criiminals but I was completely wrong. . The ending made me laugh. because it was so true to the culture. And I'm glad I have a Mercedes E-class! Read this lively and fun book and you'll find out what that means.

Detective Eve Ronin is still living in the hotel since her last case. She has made new enemies in the department and it causes the next case to be more violent with no backup responding. Eve and Duncan are living the life of the rich as they try to nab house raiders. When caught, one leaps to his death and the other two die by gunshot. Who was the ringleader and what other personal issues will arise?

This is the 3rd book in a series, but the first one I have read. After finishing this, I am going back to the beginning. and reading the first two.

This book was riveting and a real page turner. It was fun, and fast moving. It was an easy read, but not over simplified. I could totally see this as a tv series and I would hang out with Eve any day. I have a weakness for sassy women characters who do sarcasm well, and this sums up Eve. I actually giggled out loud in a few places.

Is this "great literature?" No. But who cares- it is a well written, fun, story and I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

Whip Smart Suspense….
Lee Goldberg comes up trumps again in this whip smart, fast moving suspense which positively fizzles with adrenaline. Intriguing storyline combines with a wholly credible cast, marvellous dialogue and ideal backdrop. Book three in the Eve Ronin series and a worthy addition indeed.

Gated Prey’ is book 3 in the Eve Ronin series and while you don’t have to read the previous books to get the gist of this one, why wouldn’t you?
This time around Eve and her partner Duncan are investigating a string of home robberies in the wealthy gated communities of Calabasas. Pretending to be a wealthy couple living the high life, Eve and Duncan set a trap for the robbers, only for the whole thing to end with dead bodies, a car chase and a shootout in a supermarket. Not exactly a low key undercover investigation.
And while dealing with closing the home robberies cases, Eve is called to the scene of a stillborn birth. It’s confronting for Eve, her first case involving the death of a child. And made even worse when things don’t seem to add up with the mother’s story.
Eve and Duncan must sort through all the noise to find the answers they’re looking for.
I enjoyed ‘Gated Prey’. It was an action packed, fast paced mystery thriller. I loved the banter been Eve and Duncan. It had me smiling a lot while reading. I like that while Eve is up against it with just about everybody in the police department, she has Duncan to rely on. I also liked the Eve is still a rookie, making mistakes. She doesn’t know Evans it was refreshing to read.
Only negative point of the book for me was the stillbirth case. I struggled a bit with this one. I know cases like this one happen in real life, I even heard about them on the news, but I’m not sure it’s a type of police case I want to read about. It was too upsetting.
Otherwise ‘Gated Prey’ was a good instalment in the Eve Ronin series and I look forward to more books in the series. 4 stars from me.

I’ve been waiting for another great female SHERO and Eve Ronin is it. This is a fast moving, interesting book about a detective in the LASD involved in 2 intriguing cases.

Here she is involved in both a home invasion case and a fetal abduction case, within the gated elite community of Calabasas. I even loved her partner Duncan, a near retirement officer who is the classic good cop.

I enjoyed the book and Eve’s compulsive pursuit of the “bad guys”. She is smart and resourceful, when coupled with her work ethic, caused her to become a hated member of the force and an icon awaiting the sale of a television series about her life.

This is a great read and places Eve in the elite group of female detectives. Looking forward to seeing Eve again soon.

Bravo, and thanks Netgalley. This will be a page turner on the beach.

LA County Sheriff’s deputy Eve Ronin is kick-ass. No doubt there. Also controversial and consistently butting heads with the brass. Now she is faced with a series of home invasions in “safe” gated communities in the LA area. Oh, and a dead fetus discovered in a trash bin. Are these two merely happenstance, or are they somehow related? This fast-paced and well-written story will grab you and drag you to an explosive—literally—climax. Once you begin, you will not be able to put this book down. Loved it. Love Eve Ronin. Love this entire series.

No one makes procedurals as fun as Lee Goldberg. Happily, they're also smart and fresh and, very occasionally, a little bit poignant.

Gated Prey is the 3rd installment in the Eve Ronin series, and finds Eve and her partner Duncan investigation a series of home invasion robberies. That investigation soon spirals into a homicide investigation, with Eve once again front and center, and at odds with her colleagues. Told in author Lee Goldberg’s inimitable style, with lots of humor and irreverence, this police procedural flows nicely, with a layered plot and familiar characters. Another thoroughly enjoyable read, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in Eve’s story! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third Eve Ronin book, any details mentioned in previous books are described enough that you could read this one as a stand alone. Eve and her partner are investigating a number of break-ins at luxury homes around Calabasas by impersonating a rich couple. They have just returned from a shopping trip to their 'home', located in one of the upscale areas that had been targeted by the robbers. A knock on the door is answered by Eve, there are three men asking for admittance to check a 'gas' leak. Once inside they turn out to be the robbers Eve and her partner are looking for. Eve is taken upstairs to open the safe, which of course there isn't one, the robber at that points realizes it's a trap and Eve has her gun drawn, to escape the robber runs to the balcony and jumps off hoping to land in the pool, he doesn't. Meanwhile her partner is being held at gunpoint by the other two robbers and when the body of the first falls past the window distracting them, he takes advantage and shoots one of them. The last one escapes and Eve follows, the car chase ends at a local grocery store where the store security guard shoots the robber. The security guard is deemed a hero for stopping the robber and awarded a medal for his efforts. Eve and her partner have to deal with the fall out from the shooting of the two robbers with their internal therapist. Things get worse when Eve is sent on a routine call about a stillborn baby, of course things are not routine. If you have read the other books, you will know that Eve doesn't give up, she investigates until the last end, farther than her fellow officers would. Eve is still the object of much displeasure from her fellow officers due to an investigation in the previous book that had uncovered corruption among her fellow officers and resulted in one of them committing suicide. There is a lot going on in this story and events move quickly, I read this in one day. Highly recommend this story and the others in the series. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I really enjoyed this fast paced police mystery by Lee Goldberg. There were so many twists and turns that it was impossible for me to put down. The main character, Eve is smart, strong & relatable and so is her partner, Duncan. Since she's still "the new kid on the block" there are plenty of jerks, not including the obvious bad guys, too! Thank goodness she has some great people watching her back! I look forward to reading much more from Mr Goldberg in the near future. Although, I'm going to try and start the next book a lot earlier in the day.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer Publishing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great chapter from Eve Ronin! As her partner nears retirement Eve has to navigate a department of coworkers that hate her, try to avoid the agent selling her a TV show, and lawsuits from previous cases all while trying to do her job. She doesnt sleep much but the outcome is a compelling police procedural that I binge read in 24 hours.

This one is definitely now on my list of favorite series and I look forward to the next one!
