This book is somehow even better than the first book. Mellow really outdid herself. She is truly a master of a good slow burn romance, while not making it the entire focal point of the story. Her writing is phenomenal. The representation in this book is fantastic. (LGBTQ+, disability, cultural diversity. Etc) I so enjoyed returning to this massive, lush, creative, fantastical world. This series will go down as one of my favorites of all time. I’m so sad I finished it, but so happy with the adventure it took me on. Honestly will probably be rereading when it officially comes out. I am in love with this world and EJ Mellow!

I loved this book a lot more than SOTFR! The slow burn, the depths and the character growth were well-done and I think the amount of spice was perfect for the characters.

I did find that it was a little slow to build, even for a slow burn, same as in book one. I like a bit of a faster pace usually and the only thing that felt fast was Alos’ about-turn on how he felt about Niya. There was definitely something always simmering under the surface, but it did feel a bit 0-100 in his inner monologue when something finally did happen. That said, it was still an enjoyable read.

I think what’s missing for me at the moment is a series arc, something to tie everything together that makes your heart skip a beat at its brilliance.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, even better than the first instalment, and I’m excited for the next book.

I really loved the first book and absolutely adored Dace of a Burning Sea. E.J. Mellow has done it again by grabbing your attention and not letting go until the very last page. This series is one that will stick with you, well beyond the end of the books.

This second installment was even better than the first. I could not put this down and am so excited that I was able to read it. This world is just so vast and immersive. The characters and being were fabulous and OMG the twists were amazing. This one was way more exciting than book one and I can not wait for another.
