I greatly enjoy Chronicle Books' output and this book, 'Bibliophile: Diverse Spines' is a great collective effort by both Jamise Harper and Jane Mount. I like how this book kind of sets you up with the challenge to add new books by authors from other backgrounds to your TBR. The emphasis of the book is on BIPOC authors, bookstores, and illustrators, which means that I definitely found plenty of new authors to add to my list.

Often, I get tired reading through lists because eventually you do just become tired of the bullet points. What makes 'Bibliophile; Diverse Spines' different is that it has these stunning illustrations by Jane Mount, rather than a written list, and I simply couldn't get enough of looking at them. While this is not a long or thick book, I still found myself pausing non-stop to look up the titles and authors and locations, or just gazing at the illustrations themselves. Overall, 'Bibliophile: Diverse Spines' does exactly what it sets out to do, which is introduce you to a varied set of BIPOC artists and makes you eager to give their work a try ASAP.

I absolutely love the Bibliophile series. Even if I don't read them they are such visually pleasing books to have on your shelf or coffee table. Loved the recommendations in this book

Like its predecessor, this book is beautifully illustrated and made my TBR explode with new titles.

The chapter and overall book structure seemed haphazard at times, and I wish the book had been better organized in order to truly let these marginalized voices shine.

This a great book for booklovers on par with “1001 movies you must watch before you die” level. I got so many book recommendations and I love they touched upon all different book genres and cultures.

If my TBR list wasn't already a mile long, after reading this it certainly is now. Loved the artwork, loved the book recommendations, loved the short author profiles and bite-sized interviews, loved that everything was from a perspective different from my own.

More of a casual read and coffee table style book than anything, with informative pages and artistic piles. This is a good one to casually flip through to see if any recommendations catch your eye

I honestly thought this book would be about the development of book spines, but this turned out to be excellent and incredibly informative (and also incredibly terrible for my TBR). Having an e-galley does not do this book justice and I’m tempted to buy multiple copies as holiday gifts just to pass on the cute artwork and sheer details that accompany each work.

Okay ya’ll get ready for me to gush about this new book, Bibliophile: Diverse Spines that was a collaboration by a phenomenal Bookstagrammer Jamise Harper, that I follow, and a superb illustrator Jane Mount, whose art I plan to one day purchase.

No Brainer Holiday Gift For Book Lovers
Now I know that book lovers are picky about books they get as presents. Usually you should air on the side of caution by just giving us a gift card. But in this case, you might have a solid gift book on your hands here. I am reviewing this from a digital arc. I have already told my husband that this is one that I want for Christmas. But here is your warning: buy now! Because…supply chain issues are rough right now.

Required Reading For Bibliophiles
This book should be a required asset and on all bibliophile’s book shelves. Some people see themselves as well-read. But have you stopped to ask yourself if you are widely-read? If your answer is hesitant, then you need to check out this book. It is an awesome reference for so many biblio-related topics. It covers bookstores, book lists, book recommendations by authors and bookstagrammers, influential book people and more.

You Learn Something New Everyday
I pride myself at being somewhat widely read, but I learned so much from this book. There were facts and book recommendations that I had never even heard of before. That is why I recommend it not just as a coffee table book but as a reference book that you actively and frequently refer back to during your reading journeys. Also, if you ever hit a reading slump, all you have to do is whip this baby out and you will definitely find something to inspire you!

Bookstore Road Trip
The book showcases bookstores owned by BIPOC. As a I was reading, I thought what a cool road trip idea! Instead of visiting national parks (which is cool) I could visit as many Black-owned, Indigenous-owned, Latinx-owned and POC-owned bookstores as possible!

The Art
Jane Mount’s art is phenomenal! I love her illustrations of book covers and spines. I was first introduced to it when I came across a coffee mug that she had designed. It is currently on my Christmas list as well. The book stack illustrations in the book are my favorite.

Educator Recommendations: I recommend this book to educators on two fronts. One: As an educator, you need to be widely-read. If all you have read are books from “the canon” then you have barely even seen the tip of the iceberg that is genius in writing in the world. There are so many good book recommendations, history and information packed into this book. It should be a constant source of reference for you as a reader. Two: Share it with your students! This is such a great way to widen your students’ reading world beyond anything they could imagine!

This is truly a book for book lovers who are always on the hunt for great reads to add to a never ending TBR. With all of the pictures, I could devour this book for hours, just appreciating its beauty and adding new titles to my TBR. I will absolutely be purchasing a physical copy of this book, so I can dip into it again and again.

Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love these books. They make the best coffee table books but also give many great recommendations. My mom loves to flip through mine and find her newest read.

A very exciting compilation of the most wonderful and remarkable books by authors from diverse backgrounds, nationalities, heritage, and genre. The introduction presents a challenge for the reader to identify ten books from authors of backgrounds different from your own. The variety of titles and authors represented in this book makes it easy and exciting to do so. Compiled by Jamise Harper; illustrated by Jane Mount, Bibliophile: Diverse Spines not only presents those books, but gives a short context and "celebration" of each. I was excited to see a few of the books that I love most represented in these pages, with a description that perfectly captures the reasons that I love them. The author and illustrator of this volume do a great job at breaking down the most popular and recognized titles in the last decade or more, but also devote space to books that have not received the popular attention that they certainly deserve.

Bibliophile: Diverse Spines is a celebration of the books and authors we love, and will hold new and exciting reocmmendations for any reader. Material is broken down by genre, time period, even theme to help readers identify the books that will speak most directly to them. The descriptions, commentary, and recommendations are informative and interesting. The illustrations are one of the most original and brilliant parts of this book, celebrating not only the books themselves, but also including portraits of authors and facades of indie bookstores from around the country, owned or devoted to representation in the literary world.

This book will be read and loved frequently by those of us who love reading and want to experience stories outside of our own background. It is a title that can be read through and also referenced frequently to find future additions to your shelves. Thoughtful attention to representation, world-class artwork, and a focus on the best literature from around the world make Biobliophile: Diverse Spines the perfect addition to any collection.

This book started with a challenge - Can you add 10 books to your TBR from authors from backgrounds different than your own? Challenge accepted!

Bibliophile is a collection of books authored by BIPOC. It also shares reading locations, BIPOC illustrators, BIPOC book influencers, and BIPOC bookstores.

As a book influencer, I have seen quite a few books that turned into book lists. Even I can't read them fully because they are just so boring. However, Bibliophile: Diverse Spines went so far above and beyond. It had drawings of stacks of books instead of a long list of black and white titles. It was amazing! The book also had very short little blurbs about some of the books, and it was very easy to select 10 reads.

Overall, this was simply the best "book list" book that I have come across.

*Thank you, NetGalley, for a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest opinion.

One of the problems with reading a book that suggests good books is that you end up wanting to read all of the books! Especially when there are great books you've already read next to books you haven't heard of yet, it makes you want to immediately go to and start reading these new amazing books! As someone for whom the realization that I will someday die was MUCH easier to digest than the realization that I won't be able to read all of the books forever and ever and ever, this sort of book poses a delicious dilemma. The illustrated book stacks, author portraits, and bookstore facades were gorgeous and there were so many wonderful suggestions of diverse authors to read. What a wonderful gift of knowledge and art!

A great collection of titles all together in one place. I'm looking forward to purchasing a copy for myself and making my way through all the books I haven't read yet. The art incorporated though-out is great as well.

I love this book. I love the layout using the bookspines of all the books I want to read. I love the discussions of different books by different authors. It invites the reader in such a compelling way to consider each book. I also love showing the art done for different book covers and how much goes into that.

Many of these book I have read, many I own and want to read, many I have at my library, and many I had not heard of before. This is Multi-Cultural Bibliophile, but really these are just a great books. That the stories are told by authors from different backgrounds, cultures, and race is great, but there is something about each of these books that make them unique and special.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you want your TBR to get significantly longer. Enjoy reading about the books, the authors, and independent bookstores. Just Enjoy this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Jamise Harbor, Jane Mount, and Chronicle Books for providing an ARC of this book.

A perfect gift for all readers. Like the original Bibliophile, this book is beautifully illustrated and provides great ideas for anyone looking to expand their TBR list or find a new indie bookstore to shop at. I hope that this sequel (although I hate to call it that) helps prove that Bibliophile can keep expanding and that more books are in the future.

A surprisingly thorough and well-developed book full of fantastic recs - both things I've heard of, things I've read, and texts I've never encountered in my life. I am so, so excited to utilize this resource in my reading and selection of books for my book club. Additionally, the illustrations are stunning - it's such a beautiful and easy read to flip through. Read on my NetGalley app, but I can't imagine how much more beautiful this is going to be as a physical hardcover book.

Bibliophile: Diverse Spines is a visually stunning, thoughtful triumph. It not only accomplishes but surmounts its goal of bringing diverse books to the forefront of readers' minds. The book is comprehensive, covering everything from fiction to essays to self-help books; such an extensive array of genres slyly challenges the narrative that people of color or LGBT+ writers can only write one thing. Moreover, the authors make an effort of not only suggesting diverse books but also suggesting resources to find diverse books—book bloggers who advocate for greater inclusivity in literature, marginalized authors's favorite books, and bookstores dedicated to expanding readers' familiarity with diverse literature. This book is not a one-stop shop for diverse books; it spins a web radiating outwards, with connections upon connections upon connections for those truly looking to diversify their library.

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
