Overall I thought this was an ok story. I did like the romance blossoming between Jordan and Line but I felt it was hard to get into the book because the dialogue sounding like upper class 1800s speech and not fitting of the area and era.

It's not a bad book, but it had a lot of potential. I liked the characters, and I enjoyed the context within the story.

I think that maybe the reason why this book felt so strange to me is because is a translation from french.

I want to say that I enjoyed this book more than I did. I truly felt that the characters were very blah. I did not sense the chemistry. The writing itself was a bit painful to stumble through. It was not smooth or easy to read. I found myself re-reading a bunch to keep going. To be honest - I almost marked this a DNF, but I kept wanting to give it a second and so on the chance to see if the blurb and cover/title would eventually match. Sadly, it was just was not a great read for me.

I would like to thank NetGalley for the advanced copy to review.

I DNFed at 25%.

I think something about this story got lost in translation, literally.

*Thank you to the publisher for this eARC.

I DNFd this book when I read the line "and when are women going to learn how to drive?" said by the character who I presume to be the hero in this romance. The writing kept pulling me out of the story with excessive use of adjectives and unnecessary descriptions. The plot about her moving into the apartment above her grandfather's shop and taking over the business intrigued me and I tried to push through and enjoy the story despite the writing but our introduction to the hero left me with whiplash and I had to put it down.

It took me so long to plough through this one. I didn't like the writing. I hated the characters. The conversation between the characters was awkward and forced. Jordan was just straight up toxic with no redeeming characteristics. This was really hard to get through. There's not much else to say.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

I am sorry to say that I DNF’d this book twice. I could not get into the stilted writing style and the characters were difficult to connect to. I tried to go into it with the right headspace both times, but I could not get interested.

My Hipster Santa by Mag Maury, was a little hard for me to get into the story. The characters were okay, different but I like it when it's not the "same old story". I do feel the story had more potential, overall it was an okay read, once you get into it.

Line, on her way to start a new chapter of her life after the death of her beloved Grandfather, rear ends the bearded, ferret owning, jerk known as Jordan. What’s worse is that they’re now neighbours! These two tend to clash, but sparks start to fly in the process.

I’ll be straight with you, I didn’t like this book. The writing alone was painful. It wasn’t a smooth read, it felt stilted and awkward. Odd things felt over explained and the actual writing felt far too Americanised for a book set in England. It took me until about 30% in to actually get used to this writing.

As far as the actual story is concerned, we had to deal with two frustrating characters that just seemed to be going in circles, with nothing ever being resolved properly. Jordan has this seemingly dark past that we don’t actually learn about until the very, very end. Perhaps if there had been more hints, the wait might not have been as frustrating.

Jordan was completely unlikeable, his misogyny mixed with all his other toxic behaviours were a tad too much for me. And Line? Well, she was…fine. Incredibly frustrating most of the time, we never really expanded much on her character which is a shame. Every so often she’d surprise me though, amuse me. Two words: "Coitus Interruptus".

A little different Christmas love Story. There is so much going on that the storyline is difficult to hold on to. Line and Jordan are ok but I can't say that they have grown up on me. Especially actions from Jordan were a little too much from time to time. Story I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

This story about a grouchy guy who meets the woman of his nightmares, so to speak. They are more like gasoline and a match. Jordan is not a pleasant person. I wonder how Line could put up with him without murdering him. But they fight and argue almost constantly. Jordan finally tells her why he acts like he does. Line is listening and helping him fight all the negativity surrounding his past. Still don’t understand why she’s willing to overlook his bad behavior, e.g being promiscuous. There’s too much negativity, animosity, and fighting surrounding Jordan and Line for me to enjoy this story.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I would recommend this book as well-written, escapism I highly recommend this book for a nice lighthearted read. Finished it in no time at all.

The cover for this one really drew me in and I really wanted to love the story but I just couldn’t connect with the characters and found that I actually quite disliked Line.

Starting with the death of her grandfather, Line moves to above his old shop and starts her new life. This new life has her falling for one of the men working in the shop opposite. Jordan is sexy and cool however also secretive and runs hot and cold. Line doesn’t know where she stands and can’t seem to break down the walls Jordan has put up. What is worse is that he is her neighbour and she can’t avoid him.
You know that the burden Jordan is carrying can be overcome but anguish with Line about how to somehow get him to let her in. The ‘big reveal’ is a little OTT and drags on a bit too long however the story romps along at a good pace and is a good read.

The cover and blurb really drew me in, but I had to DNF this book, which was unfortunate, because I really wanted to like this book.

The very first time I attempted to read it, I gave up after the first two chapters. Thought I was having a bad week, so I gave it a little break and read a few other books. Picked it up once more, but I could still not enjoy it. It was the writing that I did not enjoy. At all. I tried so hard to get through it, but I gave up after only a few chapters. The style of writing was kind of awkward, and they used way too many exclamation marks.
From the conversations she had with her friends, to the run-in with Jordan, it all felt really odd and awkward.
And I honestly did not like either of the main characters. Line was annoying and a little childish, while Jordan was...well, I don't know exactly what to call him, except that his moodiness during their first conversation was unpredictable. And there you go, everything comes back to the writing for me. It just felt really off. I'm disappointed that I didn't end up liking this book, however much I wanted.

2.5 stars

I struggled with this one mostly because I didn't like the main girl. She was sweet but annoying and as soon as I dislike the main character in a book I know I won't like the book.
And yes, this has cute and sweet moments but it also has a lot of clichés that made me struggle reading and enjoying this.
I know some people who are going to love this book but unfortunately I wasn't one of them.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review

My Hipster Santa by Mag Maury is a cute read about a young woman who doesn’t seem to be having a good time at the moment, her day goes from bad to worse when she bumps into Jordan, the sinfully hot hipster who also owns the barber shop next door and seems to be everywhere that Line is. From there we see the relationship develop into a sweet story of friendship, love and holiday spirit.

How Line feels about Jordan is pretty intense for most of the book and she continually wants him to open up, which as a reader we see is difficult for him because of his past. The story bounces back and forth between a ‘will they, won’t they?’, but there are moments of absolute joy when it seems as though everything is going to come together….or is it?

The banter between the characters was great and there is true complexity when it comes to the characters figuring out who they are together as well as who they are separately. I also liked the fact that there were stories about their past that was intertwined with their future selves. As always, a little bit of Christmas spirit also makes the book sparkle.

This was a cute, easy read story with some good characters and at times an emotional storyline.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
