Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an egalley in exchange for an honest review.

Adrienne Young has become one of those YA authors that I just instantly gravitate towards. I think it is because her strongly independent female protagonists are always trying to find their way in the world even if it goes against what their own family and society deem as shocking.

When protagonist Bryn Roth receives the summons to return to her family's home on her eighteenth birthday, she is swept into the family's gem business and her great uncle's thirst for more power. Bryn will have to rely on her own wits if she has any hope of not ending up with the same fate as her own parents. Filled with intrigue, suspense, and romance, this was a surefire hit that kept me at the edge of my seat.

The Last Legacy is a standalone novel set in the Fable world and like every other book Adrienne Young has ever written, it's compulsively readable and sets the stage for her cast of characters really well.

On Bryn Roth's eighteenth birthday, she receives a letter from her uncle Henrik saying it's time to return home to Bastian and take her place among their family. We (and Bryn) quickly realize what this means as Henrik rules the family with an iron-fist and demands that each person play their role and show their loyalty as their dealings certainly fall on the murkier side. Bryn is eager to prove her worth, which leads her down an interesting road of self-discovery and what it means to be family. Of course, there's one person in this whole scheme who isn't related to her and as you can imagine, forbidden romance is on the horizon.

I was certainly intrigued by all the characters and I rooted for Bryn to outsmart her uncle and just about everyone in her path. But given this was a standalone, I did feel it needed to be longer because everything happened and resolved itself fairly quickly. I'd even go as far to say this could've been a duology. There was just so much history in their family, particularly Bryn's upbringing and parents, to unpack that it left me wanting to understand and know more.

Do I recommend? If you're a fan of Adrienne Young's books, it's fair to say you'll enjoy this one too. I'd recommend borrowing it though, as it isn't the strongest book in her backlog (IMHO!).

Bryn Roth has been waiting for the day she is called back to Bastian. Taking when she was young by her aunt, Bryn was raised to fit in with the upper class. When her Uncle Henrique send for her, she is ready. Thrown into a world of schemes and manipulations, Bryn must make a place for herself or be swallowed whole. When she meets Ezra, the family’s silversmith, Bryn must decide if being accepted into her Roth family is worth the cost of love.

The Last Legacy is fast paced to the point of choppy. It seemed to miss details and push you to think something without providing the evidence and build for it. While it was fun to be back in the Unnamed Sea, The Last Legacy missed the mark.

I normally love anything Adrienne Young writes; I think I've read all her books. The Last Legacy was no exception, except that this was not my favorite book. The story was lacking, feeling almost (dare I say?) trite. My problem with Young's writing is that her character relationships are not believable since she does not take the time to develop them. This is especially true for Bryn and Ezra, who are supposed to like each other, somehow, and Henrik, who is supposed to be this "bad-ass" Roth who everyone fears and yet, he didn't emanate any evilness. (I am not going to discuss Marrow here either because I feel like he can have an entire book dedicated to him). Everything felt rushed and undeveloped, and I was left wanting more.

Adrienne Young does it again! As she takes readers back to the world we have fallen in love with, we get to meet Bryn and learn about her strength and determination to become who she believes she should be. The characters are well thought through and developed, the storyline is well paced and fun. What a great read.

Adrienne Young is one of my auto-buy and auto-read authors. I never have to check the synopsis of a book because I know it will be amazing.

This book is def one of my top AY books of all time. I totally fell in love with Bryn and her character. I loved that she danced to the beat of her own drum and started to stand up for herself to make her own way in the Roth family. I know this is a standalone but I would LOVE for more of Bryn and Ezra!

I loved returning to this world! The characters were wonderfully duplicitous and untrustworthy, which was to be expected with the Roth's. I liked our MC and, while it isn't my favorite book romance, I was also definitely liking that. The writing was fast-paced enough to keep me interested in the plot while also slow enough to show lots of character development and help me feel a connection with the story. Lots of secrets were revealed throughout the book and I loved not knowing exactly what to expect with each page. Unsurprisingly, I've finished this book intending to read more from this author and once again wishing I was a pirate.

Obsessed and so thrilled that Adrienne dove back into the Fable world to tell another piece of the story. Her ability to craft story, characters and hook readers is unmatched in YA.

My high schoolers would eat this up! Young specializes in true blue YA and this fits the bill. Intrigue and romance with plenty of room for a companion novel for that dear cousin of hers and maybe even the mysterious Auster out there in the world!

Adrienne Young does it again with this companion novel to the Fable series. Adrienne is an expert at writing atmosphere, swoony romance, and world building that's easy to get into as well as immersive. Students will love the Roth family and fall in love with this cast of characters. Adrienne Young is definitely one to have on your shelves at school!

Rating 5
If you ask me who my auto-buy author is I will always say @Adrienne Young. She has literally never let me down. Her book “Fable” is a book I still think about and have read three times. That’s why when I heard about “The Last Legacy”, a book that takes place in the same universe, I knew I had to read it! I am pleased to say this book lived up to my hype. I absolutely loved it.

The world this author creates is one I never want to leave. I really hope more books following other characters in this universe are published. I read this book in two days because I was completely consumed by the story and characters. I love the strong female main character who is tough but knows when she needs help. She is smart and will go after what she wants and is very open to advice from those she cares about. The romance in this book was very lite. I liked that it is focused on building a deeper relationship and not so much on just looks. They shared multiple sweet moments that made me swoon. This story is fast paced and filled with drama that will make you read to the end. Honestly, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Return to the Narrows and the “home” of the Roth’s. I have yet to read and Adrienne Young book that I don’t love and this one is no exception.
At the beginning of the novel, I wasn’t sure whether I liked the protagonist, Bryn Roth, but, as usual, Adrienne Young knew exactly what she was doing. Bryn is strong and feisty and despite everything that is throw at her she keeps getting up and pushing back. I also enjoyed that we return to the Narrows but see it from a very different point of view and life.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC to review.

A companion book to the Fable series, The Last Legacy follows Bryn as she unites with the Roth family. Bryn, often feeling like she has to prove herself, undergoes the trials and tribulations of amalgamating with a new family, and a powerful one at that.

I love how Adrienne Young brought new characters to this world and how Bryn was such an intelligent, creative lead character. We need more strong female leads and Bryn fits the bill perfectly! She wasn't afraid to stand up to people much more powerful than her and to do so in a way that was true to who she was.

Hopefully there will be more books that follow Bryn's future adventures!

Another great book from Adrienne Young. I loved learning more about this family that we get a glimpse of in Fable. Our new protagonist was spunky, fierce, and lovely. I was a little disappointed in the archetype of a fierce woman not being able to also embrace femininity, but I don't hold it against this book or character explicitly. I feel like that's just a trend in fantasy that isn't going away any time soon.

This is a story about a girl claiming a legacy from the men around her.

I wanted to love this book since I loved Fable. The authors writing continues to be very accessible & the story is fine- but it didn’t feel like it had anything drastically different to offer. I think readers who haven’t read Fable/Namesake may enjoy this more!

Thank you so much Netgalley, Wednesday books & St. Martins for this eArc!

I loved Fable and Namesake so much, but unfortunately, The Last Legacy did not live up to the hype for me. I struggled to become invested in Bryn's character and the Roths as her supporting cast, though some of the fault is definitely mine. I went into this novel expecting the same "grit" and adventure of the other stories, and The Last Legacy is all about polish. Bryn's claim to fame is her sophisticated upbringing and what it can bring to the Roth family, and I hadn't considered the effect of that shift.

I found the first half of the story very "put downable"--I may not have finished if I hadn't been planning to write a review--but I thought it did improve as it went on. I would recommend this book to others, but I would emphasize how distinct it is from Fable and Namesake. VERY much a spin-off rather than a continuation.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Wednesday Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Bryn Roth is being sent away from her home, by Aunt Sariah, to make her way in the family business. She arrives and is greeted by family she hasn’t seen since she was four years old. The Roth family is rough around the edges, even if they dress nicely and have money. Uncle Henrik wants Bryn to help the family gain a merchant ring and become guild members, so she gets a reputable tailor to make customers clothes for everyone and she teaches them etiquette and manners. She works hard to belong but is shocked when she sees the brutality of Henrik’s rules and punishment.

Whip smart Bryn, brooding Ezra and cold hearted, selfish Uncle Henrik help create
another winning adventure story by Adrienne Young, 5 stars!

After Sky in the Deep, I'm willing to pick up anything Adrienne Young writes. While I haven't loved everything, I've yet to feel like I've wasted my time, and this is no exception.
